Dyan Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 Can a man that was divorced many years ago then remarried and widowed, and now remarried again serve as a bishop or mission president? My husband and I are both widowed and recently married. We both serve as ordinance workers in the temple and he is the current elders quorum president. My daughter has told me that he can never be a mission president or bishop because he was divorced. Is that true? Quote
NeuroTypical Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 I've had bishops who had been divorced at one time. They had both remarried before they became bishop, and I think it would be very rare for an unmarried guy to be made bishop. Quote
zil2 Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 Welcome to ThirdHour, @Dyan! (Sorry, can't tell you more than NT has said.) Quote
askandanswer Posted April 22, 2023 Report Posted April 22, 2023 Welcome to the forum @Dyan I had a Bishop who later became my Stake President who later became a Mission President who was divorced. However, the divorce happened a few years before he was baptised. Quote
e-eye Posted April 24, 2023 Report Posted April 24, 2023 Usually if there is another worthy male in the ward that is capable a divorced man will not be called bishop. It does happen though, i know one serving now. Quote
