I've been looking for new lds-related places online, mostly forums.. and found this one. I'll be serving a mission soon...just gotta get dental/doctor stuff done. Anyway, that's all.

Some of the other forums are better at pulling teeth or wrenching an arm back into socket, but welcome to this one anyway.

Hey, cool! :D I'm so happy for you that you're serving a mission soon! My brother-in-law just got called to New York. My jaw dropped at first because I couldn't imagine him in a huge city like that, but he won't be serving in New York City. He'll probably get to go to places like Palmyra.

My brother served his mission in New York... it was New York, New York south mission, Spanish-speaking. I'm excited for him : )

My brother-in-law grew up most of his life in a very small town. They have one traffic light there. Also, he is a momma's boy, not very independent, gets his feelings hurt very easily, seems to have anxiety and depression, and I just couldn't think of any place that would be more shocking to him than New York City. I was just hoping for a mission for him that would be a good dose of real life. I think the other areas of New York should be just fine for him. :D I went to New York City for 5 hours while visiting my Uncle (we took a drive there) and it was pretty overwhelming for me. I traveled to Austria by myself at 15, but New York I found intimidating.

That's funny... my brother was pretty much the same. I say "was" because he was totally different when he came back. He used to be super shy and wouldn't speak up in any public situation, seemed depressed for about a year until he left (just stayed in his room all day sleeping on the floor and listening to music), then when he came back he got up in sacrament meeting and sang "I Am A Child of God" in Spanish in front of our huge ward. Also, Hawaii (well, this side of the big island) is pretty much like a ghost town... most of your time is just spent driving past tons and tons of trees.
