President Thomas S. Monson named president of the LDS Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this morning that the new prophet and president of the Church will be President Thomas S. Monson. His counselors are President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor.

President Monson will serve as the 16th leader of the Church. He has served in the leadership of the Church for more than 44 years, including 22 years as part of the Church's governing First Presidency.

Prior to being called as a Church leader, President Monson worked at the Deseret News and for the Newspaper Agency Corporation.

President Monson has been married to his wife, Frances, for almost 60 years. The couple has three children and eight grandchildren.

President Monson will turn 81 years old in August.

I love Dieter F. Uchtdorf. I remember hearing him talk at Conference for the first time. That was unexpected for him to be called.

Didn't see that coming. I thought for sure that the 1st Councilor would be Boyd K Packer and the 2nd Councilor L Tom Perry.

I am thrilled the 1st & Second Councilors are Henry B Eyring and Dieter F Uchtdorf.

Seems to me this is a younger 1st Presidency.

I definitely thought Elder Eyring would be 1st, but Elder Uchtdorf was someone I never suspected, yet I'm so excited he was called as 2nd councilor!

I made the guess of Eyring and Uchdorff last night. It was probably a prophesy borne out of a mass quantity of buffalo wings and a down-to-the-wire Superbowl.

I LOVE PRESIDENT MONSON!!!!!! And I am so excited about Elder Uchtdorf too! My father-in-law served with him in Germany. He was over the American Stake there (he was a pilot in the Air Force) and Elder Uchtdorf was stake president in that same area. I love his talks. When he first became an apostle, I would listen to his talks online and I thought he sounded like Arnold Schwarzenegger. (And for some reason Oaks sounded a little like Tom Brokaw to me.)

I am so excited! Does anyone else think President Monson looks very young for his age? He is so full of life.

Wow what a great day, the church is moving forward just as the Lord wants for it. I think the calling of President Uchtdorf (how am I ever going to learn to say that correctly) will open many many doors around the world. Many still believe the church is an American Church, now they will have to look at it differently.

I think these 3 men will lead us forward, and I'm excited to see what new things they have in store for us. I pledge my support to the First Presidency.

Within minutes of the news show and question/answer session on TV today, the internet was flooded with nasty Thomas S Monson stories, just shows Satan is still around and having to work over time. He for one is probably not happy today. President Monson has always been a hero in my eyes, I'm excited to have him as my prophet. Hail to the man.

It is weird too as I was looking at all the Apostles yesterday & thinking "President Uchtdorf will be one of

Pres.Monson's Counsellors.
