Milluw Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 I am working on a family bug out box. The idea is to have two to be used as sort of "communal" family gear boxes, in case of everyone camping somewhere together to cover everyone on the extras outside of everyone having their own personal bug out bags. It's a slow project as I am not rolling in money, but the below is what I have so far! What I am fishing for here is some of everyone's wisdom in what things might be good to add. Was thinking, considering I live in the Scandinavia(Denmark), some hot water bottles would be a good idea to have too. I do have a Trangia to add to the box, but have yet to dig it out from storage. Below is what is in it so far: Quote - Radio (Runs on batteries, have a small solar radio for my personal bug out bag though) - Lamp (Runs on batteries) - Foldeable shovel - Deck of cards (Paper) - 1 kitchen towel - 3 blankets - 1 liter denatured alcohol (For Trangia) - 1 thermos - Foldeable water container (Can contain 15L) - Water purifying tablets - Batteries - Two lighters NeuroTypical 1 Quote
NeuroTypical Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Is the food in your personal bags? If not, add food. We try hard to keep food in our bags that we eat in real life. Every General Conference I go through the bags and we rotate out the food. We call it "the feast of the perishables". Pretty sure that's found in Leviticus somewhere. Milluw 1 Quote
Milluw Posted February 11 Author Report Posted February 11 No food in the bug out bags of yet, but am working on making everyone 3 little "MRE" bags each to last 3 days just in case. The feast of perishables Not a bad idea actually! Adding some food to make some shareable meals makes good sense. Have to make use of that Trangia in there for something! NeuroTypical 1 Quote

You might consider purchasing actual MREs. I don't know what your army offers or if surplus items are available to the public. But in the US, we can purchase surplus MREs that are past their expiration date. The thing is that they are prepped and sealed in such a manner that they should last a REALLY long time. But the military has put dates on them that are MUCH earlier than their theoretical freshness date. The meals are usually bigger than what the average person needs for 3 meals a day. When I've gone camping with them, I only at one meal and I was full all day. We even went hiking and had a bunch of activities. I still didn't need another meal. And despite my slight frame, I tend to eat more than most people. Milluw 1 Quote
Milluw Posted February 12 Author Report Posted February 12 Doing a deep dive right now and no success of finding surplus MRE's yet. Good idea though! In the meantime I am seeing lot of freeze dried meals that at least on picture looks delicious. Will try to sniff out what their shelf life is. This here is potentially best find so far... Quote
