Guest Starsky Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Restorationist Mormons accepting Gays... Quote
Lindy Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 Thanks for letting me vent on that subject Starsky.... I didn't have to go out on the porch and scream my bloody head off :) Quote
Guest Starsky Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 LOL....me too...with you. I totally get the 'love the sinner' concept.....but I don't get the toleration for imorality at all. But since this is a ward created by 'gay' people for 'gay' people and they aren't associated with any established church...IOW aren't accepted by the LDS or RLDS, or Fundamentalists....no one can really do anything about it... You know it reminds me of that period described in 3rd and 4th Nephi....where everyone started up their own churches according to what they wanted...the rich with theirs and the poor with theirs... Lindy Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 You know it reminds me of that period described in 4th Nephi....where everyone started up their own churches according to what they wanted...HMMMMM wonder if I could start my own church.....you know worship what I know to be true...but bend the rules to make ME happy! DisRuptive1 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Some quotes that caught my eye:Originally posted by Larry Tidwell "The Lord can't require gay people to have sex within the bond of marriage if they can't get married."Feliz ... was named the first president but was voted out eight months later...Lol @ the last one. Guest lt Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I think this is totally wrong, but thats my thoughts...My headhurts I'm done...... Quote
Tr2 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 It seems like you all are experiencing a lot of frustration because people have taken your sacred scriptures and either ignored them, twisted them around, or mutilated them to fit their own belief system. What they are doing is in direct contrast to what you have practiced for years. Here you have a group of people who are ignoring your years of teachings because they feel differently. In their own minds they have justified this to themselves and not shown much care your your many years of doctrine and church practices. NOW YOU KNOW HOW I AND EVERY SINGLE ANTI-MORMON OUT THERE FEELS ABOUT YOUR CHURCH. When members of that church call your objections "hateful", "bitter", and "bigotted", you will understand how I feel. When they accuse you of everything under the sun because you don't conform to their beliefs, you will understand how I feel. These people don't give a damn about your beliefs because they have their own made up beliefs. I think now, more than ever, you can understand where I have been coming from for so many years on this board. A lot of you do know how I feel because I see a lot of familiar thoughts posted on this thread by various members. You know how I feel and I know how you feel. I don't expect any replies to this but if you do, before you hit that "add reply" button, think of somebody from this gay mormon church saying the same thing back to you. Quote
Guest lt Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Tr2, I replied because I have several gay family members, and I don't feel I have the right to tell them they are wrong, only god does, I can just love them for who they are........My mom reads her scriptures more than most mormons I know, She reads for several hours EVERY night, and we can talk about religion and she doesnt judge. To me that is the true love for the lord, to live it,love it, and love all no matter what..... Laureltree Quote

Are you hear just so we can tell you how far off from our beliefs you are?It seems that you go into the tigers den...just to tell the tiger to not bite you in the ####....LOL Quote

I can see how others view the church if they don't understand (or don't ever WANT to understand) the differences. "Mutilated them to fit their own belief system" excellent statement... that is just how I feel. Quote

To me that is the true love for the lord, to live it,love it, and love all no matter what.....Laureltree Unfortunately a large portion of the LDS membership voices a much less tolerant view than you and your mother. In case you hadn't noticed, and it is clear that TR2 has, the LDS church, for the most part, has become an intolerant, anti-intellectual bastion of christian fundamentalists under another title. You pick the issue, and you will most likely find mormons in the same boat as other fundamentalists (gays, abortion, government, gun control, international politics, social policy... I could go on). There was a time when there were voices in the leadership of the lds church that showed there was room for some disagreement and questioning. People like Hugh B. Brown, John A. Widsoe, James E. Talmage, Marion D. Hanks and others would extole the virtues of seeking truth with reason and a respect for scientific thinking. Those times are long gone. When was the last time you heard a GA say anything like, members of the church should think for themselves and make their own decisions about the truth. Rather you hear "Follow the prophet....he knows the way". "Some truth is not worth saying". Quote

I like you a lot better when you're not saying anything. hmmm...let me quote a few things:"Love your enemies as yourself". You do not believe this because if you believed it then you would apply it to your life. You may acknowledge its existance and importance but if you believed it then you would do something about it. I have never ever seen you show that this is relevant to your life. Prove me wrong. So is it "Do as I say, not as I do?" Are you going to teach this "doctrine" to your children? For someone who is so "Christlike" you have more animosity and contention than any man I've ever met before.I think you are very odd and there is a significant portion of your intelligence that you are not using. If you were to tap into it you would see how stupid you really sound. *hands TR2 a mirror*I'll tell you why I accepted Christ in my life. I saw something in the lives of believers, that i knew, that I wanted for myself. I didn't join for another person, or for God's sake. I wanted peace for myself. I wanted to be a better person. Start acting like it...See Tr2, you can say and do nothing to lessen my testimony of Christ or dampen my faith in the Gospel. Because for all your snide remarks you are the LEAST Christlike person I've seen in quite a while and I don't say that lightly. You like to preach to us crazy Mormons about how wrong we are and how we ignore the Bible and only accept certain parts of it, but you must have missed the part about loving thy neighbor and being like Christ. So when you start acting like a Christian, I'll start caring about what you say on this board. Quote
