She was the one that really got me interested in the Church. I truly love her story because I fell in love with the LDS Church because of her trials. It sounds weird but I truly believe that my prayers for her showed miracles happen. I woud have loved to talk to her. It has been years but I just love the LDS websites like Mormon.org. I was never baptized or met missionaries but she is on my mind everyday because she lead me to this church. sounds weird doesn't it?

Thanks for sharing! I thought her story was pretty amazing too. My best friend was in her stake for a while but didn't know her. When she was found, I could hardly believe it. I can't even imagine all the horrible things she went through during that time.

I remember when she was abducted. One of my sons prayed and just knew that she was alive while the media wrote her off as otherwise. Interesting that you share her first name. I also have a sister named Elizabeth. :)

As far as we can tell, Elizabeth is off living her life as a private citizen. Her captors occasionally make the news (see here), but she and her family seem content to just live life out of the public spotlight except for court appearances.

Good for them.

The ones I really feel sorry for are the widow and son of Richard Ricci, who was the man falsely accused of kidnapping Elizabeth Smart, and who mysteriously died of a brain hemorrage while being held in prison. As far as I know, they did not share in any of the movie or book deal proceeds. They were not reached out to and embraced with community support. They were just victims.

I was really proud of Elizabeth when she was trying to help get a bill passed and this reporter was trying to question her about her abduction when what she was there to discuss was the bill. She flat out told her that she didn't want to talk about it and she didn't appreciate her asking. Go Elizabeth!
