I would like to say hello and kind of introduce myself. I'm a memeber of the US army and right writing this from Afghanistan. My wife is still at Fort Hood, Texas waiting for me to return home. She elects to stay where I'm stationed because she states that it is easiest for her to keep up with what is happening while I'm deployed. We are both from Idaho and miss the mountains when we are in flat country like central Texas. I'm from the area west of Boise out in the desert. My wife is from the mountains in central Idaho. It is interesting being in small military wards with all the changes from people leaving and people coming in. We both love the military life just not the separations that come with all the deployments which is perfectly understandable. We both look forward to the day when we can retire to the mountains of Idaho permanently. I love the outdoors, doing things outdoors especially camping and fishing. As stated earlier I'm married and have been married for going on nine wonderful years. We were married on Thanksgiving day November 25 1999. I happily inherited three children when I married her and have happily changed her attitudes concerning being married. That attitude that men change and become abusive when they get married. We also adopted one other child and all but one of the children have left home and are on their own now except one. He is fourteen and unfortunately that leaves too little time and the house will be way too empty. LOL. I guess I could say that I can look forward soon to getting grandkids to spoil. :)

Welcome Galen! Loved the intro...you should talk your wife into joining the site, too!! you seem like a lovely couple! My dad married my mom and she had three lovely kids, too! Then they had me (lucky them!) and when I was 12 we "got" my little bro and the adoption process began. :) Anyway it was very nice "meeting" you. Hope you enjoy our little home away from home! Good luck in Afghanistan!

Welcome and thanks for your service. I've been thinking lately that Afghanistan is the forgotten front in the war on terror. We rarely hear of things going on there anymore other than stories about the border with Pakistan occasionally. Not sure if that's because they have become calmer or if the media is just ignoring Afghanistan. I'd like to read about your experiences there if you don't mind sharing them once in a while.
