HoosierGuy Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Ok, I want to start making a list of names that I want to baptize, beginning with my Mom and Dad. What information do I need to collect on all that I want to baptize in a temple? Birth date? Date of death? Date of marriage? Thanks! Quote
Alaskagain Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Hi HoosierGuy! Best place to start is by going to FamilySearch.org In the right column, click the "get started" link. Then in the left sidebar, click on "Family Group Records", download it and print it out. Fill out all the information you have on your dad and mom, and the Husband and Wife on this form. Then contact your Ward Family History Consultant, who will help you with the final paperwork you need. (If you don't know who that is, ask your Home Teacher, or the Missionaries) Quote
manxman Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Minimum Necessary data is: an event, a name, a place and a time all interconnected with at least one person. the event can be almost anything, if it links the birth, death or marriage date to the person(s). Dates "can"be approximated if no other confirming sources exist, but more precision is desireable to identify the soul for whom it is being done. They need to be deceased at least one year. Quote
JLFuller Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 If you are brand new to this work I suggest you go to your local Family History Center and ask one of the genealogy volunteers for help. Your stake or ward genealogist is available for guidance too. Much of the information you find online is inaccurate so unless it has been obtained from a recognized documented source it may not be useful. If so, you may have to confirm the information from official sources before submitting it. If you are not LDS but still want to submit your genealogy for inclusion in the IGI database, the Family History Centers are still your best bet. You don't have to be a church member to ask for assistance and guidance. Go to FamilySearch.org - Family History and Genealogy Records where you can enter your home town and find where one is located near you. Genealogy is a connection to those who came before you. Once you start, something transforms you. You become more interested in doing this work than you ever thought you might. These people become alive to you and you want to know more about them. Genealogy then becomes an exercise in exploring part of who you are. You become more than just curious about them. You become concerned for them. You wonder what has become of them since their passing and you, in some cases, once a connection has been made, may want to secure a place for them with you and your family. If you are LDS, the temples and the work done there becomes increasingly important. Quote
asuccesscoach4you Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 also I might add that if the family member has any other still living and close relatives such as a spouse or parent then you need their permission to do it if they are not LDS Quote

HoosierGuy Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 I'm all set to go - I got my Mom and Dad on a floppy disk. My first temple recomend interview is this Sunday! Can I say again - I LOVE THIS CHURCH! I KNOW IT IS TRUE! Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 If you think your own baptism was a spiritual experience just wait until you do baptisms for deceased ancestors. That can be breathtaking. I love going with the youth on temple baptism nights. It's indescribable. :) Quote
HoosierGuy Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 Guess who had his first baptism temple interview today? ME!!!!!!!And.... I get to go!!!!!!!! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! And, today I passed the Sacrament for the second time! I've passed it twice and broken the bread once! I had a great interview with the second counselor. Bishop was not at services today. I can't wait to go. When I'm in that temple, I only want my thoughts to be 100% pure. I've never been in a temple before but I know they are special. From the videos I have seen with the missionaries, I really, badly, want to go to the temple! I can't believe I'm going. This is like Christmas as a kid! Most important of all – I get ti be baptized for my Dad and see a young lady get baptized for my Mom. Plus, I will be baptized for other men too. What an honor that is going to be. :) Quote
Jenamarie Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Your excitement is awesome HoosierGuy. Enjoy the Temple!! I always loved going as a youth to do proxy baptisms. I think it's one of the most amazing ordinances of the church. SO spiritual! And how awesome that you get to do it for your parents!! Quote
