Elgama Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Anyone fancy the idea of meeting at one of the Temples for a lds.net trip? if we can get accommodation - I know Willow is near the Preston Temple and I can get by without accommodation at that one (my Dad lives in Southport). But for me either temple is just as easy as the other - I have a huge soft spot for the London Temple. We could bring our families? Preston is also easier to get to by public transport. If it would be too weird or impractical just say -Charley Quote
SmilingRedhead Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I think that sounds like a lovely idea. I wouldn't be able to get to Preston but London Temple is less than an hour away from me. :) Quote

pushka Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I live relatively close to the Preston/Chorley Temple and would love to get together with other UK members there, or at the London Temple at a push..I've always been interested in visiting the London Temple, it would just be a little more awkward for me to get there, that's all. Aphrodite Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Im afraid you can count me out. Ive been to the London temple so many times and I dont have a recommend so...prob would be a lot of effort. The last time I went was for a sealing and me and my hubby and our friends sat outside like the heathen relatives..then we all got changed in to shorts and went to Brighton for the day!!! lol Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 London would be difficult for me. Preston I can just about manage if I can get a ride with someone but I don't drive and getting there by public transport is a bit long winded. I'm going on Tuesday with friends from the Ward. I wouldn't be able to stay over due to family commitments but it would be fun to have a meet up and those of us with recommends could go through a session together. That would be a lovely thing to do. I'm married to a non-member so it might be pushing it a bit to expect him to tag along. My girls are 13 and 16 and love going to the temple to do baptisms, but of course can only go for those. We have a next Ward trip for baptisms on April 11th in the evening. Quote
pushka Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Aphrodite, it would be good to be able to meet you, even if you wouldn't be allowed inside the Temple..I am only allowed to go to the Temple to do Baptisms on a group recommend, and the last time our ward went for that purpose, something cropped up and I had to cancel.. Willow, a group of people from our ward are going to the Family History Centre from 12pm till 2pm on Tuesday afternoon...if you're going to be around between those times, perhaps you could pop in to say hello, unless you're just going into the Temple itself. I've got to wait for confirmation that I've got a lift before I know for definite if I can get there...(I believe there is a bus that runs directly from one of the train stations just before Preston, that takes you directly to where the Temple is situated, or you can get a connecting train from Preston to Chorley..check out the National Rail Enquiries website for more details). Elgama Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 right I will try and work something out, Willow we will have to hire something to get there anyway if we hire something bigger and we could fit you in would you like to? I need to find out about costs - Aphrodite lol you reminded me of my wedding we went to Blackpool after our sealing for fish and chips, I had forgotten about the less church standard side of it last time I had been I was 10 so it was buckets and spade, donkey;s and the Sandcastle lol -Charley Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I'll be with a couple from our Ward on Tuesday Pushka so I'll be going along with what they are doing which is usually a morning session and then head back so we'll probably be leaving just as you are arriving! When I have gone by bus I get a bus from my home into Accrington then a bus from Accrington to Blackburn, then a bus from Blackburn to Chorley and then a bus from Chorley bus station which goes along the road past the temple and stops just opposite. Coming back I do the same in reverse and get the bus just outside the temple grounds near where the old water tower used to be. If I leave here before my girls leave for school I get there for the 11 o'clock session and then can get back home for tea time. Are you talking about hiring something to go to London Elgama or to Preston? I wouldn't think it fair on my family to do anything involving an overnight stay. Quote
Aphrodite Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 lol elgama!!! Either temple is a trek-Preston is what, 200 miles away? And London is still a hefty trek down the M25. Plus hubby has the car during the day, and I cant take time off my course. So unless it fell on a day off and I fancied walking (haha) or forking out loads of cash for the train....It would be nice to meet you all tho. xx Quote
