Optimistic_Trish Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 This is the best chocolate cake recipe ever. It is super super moist and It's always a hit everywhere I take it. Its super simple and easy to make with kids. Chocolate Cake: Cream: 2c sugar 3/4 c shortening 2 eggs sift: 2c flour + 2 TB 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 c cocoa Alternate sifted ingredients into creamed mixture with 1c sour milk. (sour milk by adding 1tsp vinegar or lemon juice to milk) Very last: mix 2 tsp soda & 1 1/2 cup boiling water. Add to rest of mix. Pour into either 3 8" rounds or 2 9" rounds or probably a large 9x13 cake pan. Bake 350 for 30 mintues. Chocolate Frosting: this makes a lot so can probably cut , receipe in half for regular 9x13 pan. melt 4 squares unsweeten chocolate & 3 TB butter. Add 1/8 tsp salt, 7 TB milk & 1 tsp vanilla to 3 cups powered sugar & blend. Add hot choclate mixture & mix well. Let stand, stirring occasionally, until right consistency to spread. If necessary, place bowl in pan of cold water. Makes enough to from 3 9" layers. Quote
