I haven't.

While "admirable" if you are able to do this, I guess -- I think perhaps a better place to focus my efforts is in living what this section teaches and trying to understand it.

i think an emphasis on rote memorization misses the mark. The Holy Ghost can recall it to your mind if you study it and love the Lord and are in His service.

I do. We encourage our young men in the ward to do it as a reminder of missionary work.

That was not a negative question asked....just curious on why. I'm grateful for the youth who will study and learn the scriptures.

This is the typical "missionary scripture" that elders and sisters often opt to memorize while on their missions. It's a nice section to know by heart.

SECTION 4

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to his father, Joseph Smith, Sen., at Harmony, Pennsylvania, February 1829. HC 1: 28.

1 Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.

2 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.

3 Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;

4 For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;

5 And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.

6 Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.

7 Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.

I like the first part in verse one because it reminds me of Isaiah's words regarding the restoration of Christ's church prophesied to occur after a great falling away or "apostacy".

Isaiah 29:9-20

9 ¶ Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

10 For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:

12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

13 ¶ Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

20 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

The entire chapter is really good. I really like the book of Isaiah!

I have it memorized as well... one night I just had the feeling to read it because I had remembered it from seminary the year before... and then I had the idea of memorizing it. Not sure why exactly, but I went with my feeling.

Yeah, like Amber said, I too used to have it memorized. But I need a refresher course because as of this very moment, I would be stumbleling over quite a few words. Lol. It's a wonderful Section though. :)
