  1. eh...neither really, only upset when they don't give a reason. kinda annoyed when you find out after freaking out about coming back to your computer 30 minutes later from baking cookies to see you were banned from chat tonight just because he wanted to shut the room down early.....hint hint pale? left or right
  2. either. football or soccer? *actually posted same time as TrueGrits, so i came back and edited. LOL*
  3. oo pale, you could get me started on a long rant! lol both! i'm a book worm  amazon or ebay?
  4. never made them at home, so store-bought. sunrise or sunset?
  5. i always carry a purse in, and so does my grandma, which is who i normally go with to the movies unless i go by myself. for example, one evening i went to see the twilight movie, and about two hours before i placed my order for a steak burritoooo from chipotle with some chips and chili-corn salsa, then picked it up before i went to the movies. sat in the car, cleared some stuff outta my purse, threw the burritto and chips in my purse, walked in, and had a grand time watching a certain sparkly vamipire! LOL i plan on doing it again
  6. both, but prefer boating! the office or one tree hill?
  7. ice cream, can't stand sherbert vitamin water or gatorade?
  8. way to go captain obvious, of course we don't know you physically LOL! people respond based upon what information they have, and if you don't give us the entire picture, then what do you expect us to do, be psychic? i think not. i don't care what kind of job(s) you may or may not actually have, all i was doing was giving you advice. you came on here asking for it, but yet you continue to bash it and us when we attempt to help you. if you don't want to here what we have to suggest, then don't ask. i've gone back and read a small portion of your previous posts as FunkyTown has suggested, and you have the same crappy attitude whenever you bring the mission subject up and ask for opinions, excusing my french. another thing, i never wanted to know what kind of bills you have or how much money you make, never asked or said anything about that!! go back and re-read, because you've obviously missed what i was trying to help you with. being young myself, i know where you're coming from, i honestly do. nearly 10k is a LOT of money at our age. since we weren't given sufficent background info on the situation, i just went on what i know both from experience and observations of other young adults, which is why i suggested setting up a budget because that seems to be one of the most popular issues in our similar age group. i wasn't really trying to assume i knew anything about you :) perhaps if you don't want to serve a full-time mission and put out as much money as is needed and wanted to stay closer to your friends and family, maybe a part-time local mission would be a good option for you to consider. mull it over in your head a little longer, and make sure to speak with your bishop and family to gather their opinions as well and see what they have to say.
  9. there was nothing insulting about suggesting a job. the PP didn't have any prior knowledge that you were already employed, and i find that comment very offensive. no prospective missionary can have an attitude like that. how are you supposed to successfully serve the Lord thinking that way? secondly, it IS financially feasible for a 21 to save up money for a mission, even though i do agree it is a sizable chunk - $9,600. you just have to set up a budget every month and put back what extra there is after taking care of other responsibilities, such as bills and tithing. of course, most aren't able to get the 400 a month or the whole amount needed for the mission in a short amount of time, you know what i mean? i have two best friends in the field right now, and they both had two jobs or more, and even then it took them some time to get the financial aspect in order. for example, i'm saving up money right now for a new car, whether it be used or new, but i know that i'm not going to be able to save back what i need if i don't follow a reasonable budget. i'd prefer to not have to finance it, so i'll have to have around $7,000 at minimum. to start a budget (if you don't already have one), keep your receipts, copies of any bills for a month, and any other financial statements, then at the end of the month sit down and roll up your sleeves. you'll also need to record all of your outside sources of income. next, write down (or type in a spreadsheet if that's your thing) a list of all your monthly expenses, whether it be bills or anything else you spend your money on. after this, you'll need to determine which expenses are fixed and which are variable (stay pretty much the same each month and vary all the time). there's many links out there that'll further explain or help you how to do this all, i've included one below. just google it, yahoo, ask, whatever search engine you may use. when you've sorted out what category your expenses fall into, total up your income and then total up your number of expenses. ideally, you'll want to have more income than expenses. if you see that there are more expenses than income, look at the variable expenses and see what can be reduced. the best way i learned to save money is to include an amount that you wish to put into a savings account or other method/place to save your money in is to include it as a fixed expense in your budget, that way you pay yourself first. it's all manageable, you just have to take the time to set yourself up in the beginning and make goals. even if you have to request assistance from your bishop, that's ok! most, if not all bishops would love to help a member serve a mission! good luck, and please keep us updated on your progress! 10. ditto on what hemi says :) welcome back!
  11. claire, i am also a young convert of your age :) and have been thinking about going through the temple. sometimes i feel as if i'm spirtually mature enough to want to tell my bishop i'd like to consider going through once i've been a member for a year and a half or so, but then there's times i don't think i'm anywhere near ready, you know what i mean? for me, i hear so much about how incredible the blessings are that the temple gives you in your life and how people say they feel like they've truly felt like they've gone home to HF, etc... and every part of me wants it so badly. so, essentially i'm going to agree with the PPs that have recommended speaking with your bishop. definately stay in touch, it's good to know there's another girl out there my age and also a new convert -Laura
  12. bethie, i have another favorite copy of the Kolob hymn. i love it :) YouTube - If You Could Hie To Kolob
  13. welcome!
  14. ruthie, that WAS the whole point of my reply, in case you missed the last part. i'm sorry if it wasn't worded clearly enough :) (wouldn't be the first time! haha) sorry!
  15. speaking from the perspective of a soon-to-be 19 year old, so i may ramble a bit. i was lucky to receive what essentially amounts to a full-ride to my college (not including books), and the small part that my scholarship didn't cover ($649 compared to a tuition of 42420), my mom and grandma have graciously covered for me, along with helping me pay for my books and the purchase of my beautiful laptop. jobs around here on campus are fairly rare, but if i had the oppertunity to work i would definately be doing so. it would be difficult for me to hold a full-time job in addition to maintaining the course load that a Music Ed major here has to. i have a car that used to be my mom's, and she pays our insurance (both her van and my car), while i pay for the gas using gift cards i've received and what little spare money i have scraped together, and if i need help getting home, then i get it. back in my freshman year of high school, i abused my cell phone and my mom took it away for a while (around 6 months), and i only got it back after i regained her trust. i learned my lesson through having to experience the consequences of my actions, which i think may need to happen in this situation. if you feel that you should take away her cell phone, perhaps this next tidbit would be an idea for you to consider. depending on your carrier, you could temporarily "trade-in" her phone for one of those meant for smaller children that only have room for them to call certain people and 911. for example, the one they have for what used to be cingular, the parent has the control to add contacts, and the user can only call those pre-approved contacts and 911. there's also one out there called the firefly. perhaps getting one of these could be a way to still let her have a phone for safety, but gives her the message that if you act like a child, you'll be treated like one. so, just a few things to consider. i know that any teen/young adult my age would definately not want to be treated like a little child, but i also think that if some of us choose to act stupid, we need to be treated that way, you know what i mean? a good sit-down discussion should also be on the schedule. please keep us updated on what's going on, seeing and reading through this post piqued my interest. good luck!!
  16. that's awesome that things are going so well :) and congrats on your first baptism! good luck while you're gone, we'll miss you here!
  17. elderJAR, how are things going now?
  18. so bethie, how's it going so far? :)
  19. i didn't know whether to post a LOL or thanks for this, because it's spilt both ways love the last line nancy!
  20. lol, i really meant what i said. this is coming from a person who used to act somewhat like her. i finally realized one day how miserable it made people i was close to and how stupid it was....and i stopped. i still go through brief moments of that, but it's much more under control. i think your mission will give her more than ample time to reflect on things and hopefully change herself for the better :) did you say where you got called to?
  21. bethie!! that's so incredible!! i wish i could come, but i'm all the way here in ohio be sure to take plenty of pictures congrats again!!!
