  1. Welcome Valerie!
  2. It naturally spins clockwise for me, but if I only focus on her feet, I can make her spin counter-clockwise, and then I can follow her form up to get the rest of her spinning counter-clockwise. I lose it very easily, though and it is hard to get her going counter clockwise again.
  3. I'm not sure I follow...aside from the decreasing value, what's wrong with the system we have?
  4. Welcome to the board! I believe I saw you over there on occasion. This site is not geared towards debate, but you can still ask questions and discuss things. I suppose there will be a younger crowd over here, but we also have some "experienced"(old) posters here too. Hope you enjoy it here.
  5. Jessica, I am so sorry about your circumstances. I wish no one would have such heartache. Your Bishop will counsel you on options and things but will not run your life. I think he stated that things could work out, because the opposite is very obvious. Things can work out, but both of you need to be on the same page and full willing to work things out. Christ can heal all wounds. Plead with the Lord for direction in this matter. That being said, I will put a disclaimer out here that I am not a proffesional and am very simplistic in my outlook on things. I don't know your husband from anyone else in the world, but it looks like he has escalated his behavior in the wrong direction. His non-progression in the church is his own doing, not yours. Did he blame you for the violence too? He needs help, and bad! You have grounds for ending your marriage to him, and be justified beyond measure. But seek the Lord for His counsel, and you won't go wrong.
  6. I hope you will feel welcome here, we really don't want to make anyone feel bad for visiting. Yes, the Masons/Freemasons are still around. I don't know much about them or where they meet, but they around somewhere. If you do a search on "masonic lodge" you may get more information about them.
  7. Knife of Dreams, and A Memory of Light are numbers 11 and 12. I think 12 will be the final book.
  8. I have always understood that making a "backup" copy of a movie or CD that you have purchasedis fine and dandy, but copying anything else is not legal. I'm not a lawyer, so I can't be sure, but this is how I have viewed it. If someone wanted to borrow something so they can copy it, I would say something like "ya know that against copyright laws, don't ya?". Not to be mean about it, but to be informative.
  9. If someone does not have the opportunity to be married in this life, no blessings will be witheld in the next if worthiness allows for it. In otherwords, if someone, male or female, does not get married in this life because no one asked or accepted, that alone is not criteria to lose exaltation. That being said, "the man is not without the woman, neither is the woman without the man, in the Lord". It takes both a man, and a woman, to be complete, in the Lord. I think this is just speculation based on the number of men and women in the general population. I suspect, that the probability of there being the exact number of men and women in the afterlife, is pretty low.Of course, without exaltation, it won't matter if the numbers are equal or not. With fear and trepidation. That all depends...some will have more than one wife, others will not. That is all up to the Lord. Congratulations!
  10. I hope you will forgive any harshness that may have been tossed your way, but there are many that come here with quotes like that, just to belittle, ridicule and mock our beliefs. I get a little bit of an edge in my responses when that happens. No offense taken here. As a matter of fact, unless you are LDS, I wouldn't expect you to believe as we do.We do believe Joseph Smith was a prophet of G_d, and brought forth the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ, and it testifies of the truthfulness of the Bible. Joseph Smith was a Mason. As I understand Masons, they are a quasi-religious organization, more of a brotherhood, like Shirners, Optomists, or Rotary Club, with roots in religion. But don't take my word for it, look it up on line, that would be more accurate.
  11. Just a little insight into how our speakers work. They are all part of the congregation, and have been asked by the ward or "congregation" leaders to speak on a particular subject. Perhaps the subject assigned was on the Prophet Joseph Smith...I don't know. Generally the subjects of the talks will be about gospel principals or the teachings of Christ. So even though the topic may not specifically be about Jesus, it will be about His teachings. I, personally, have decided to use "G_d" instead of "God" because it seems more reverent/respectful to me. There is no protocol or mandate on how to use the name of G_d when discussing the things of God, so you need not worry about being offensive in that respect.
  12. A very succinct way indeed of saying that there will always be a need for a prophet, and that scriptures never end. Loved it!
  13. I wish I was a professional so I could give the best advice possible, but since I am not, then I can only give you what I think. I think your husband needs to put Christ first, you second, and your kids third. His relationship with Christ will only serve to enhance his relationship with you and the kids. His relationship with you should be paramount. He should put a lot of effort into demonstrating his love and devotion to you as part of the reparations of your relationship. If he does this, then your kids can be healed easier. Your kids will be confused and hurt by his actions, and he will need to work on gaining their trust back also. I don't mean to make this sound so simple, because it's not, and won't be. There are a lot of raw emotions that will be "painful to the touch" and need to be healed by all involved. I wish you the best and hope this can work out.
  14. Here is the quote from D&C 130:14 I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following: 15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter. 16 I was left thus, without being able to decide whether this coming referred to the beginning of the millennium or to some previous appearing, or whether I should die and thus see his face. 17 I believe the coming of the Son of Man will not be any sooner than that time. The bold part is the prophesy of Joseph, and it is was true...the second coming did not come sooner than that time. A quick visit to Fairwiki would have answered your statement Here is a link that addresses this: Miraculous Events in Early Church HistoryIt's about half way down the page: look for "Prophecy of Stephen Douglas". Your reference to Journal of Discourses is one that tells me you have not found any of this information yourself, but have just visited an "anti-mormon" website and took their word for it on what it says. There are 26 volumes of JofD, and I know you have not read them. I would suggest you read the entire sermon and then make your comments...if you still have any. You know Jesus Christ made a prophecy about the second coming..."Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." Well, that generation at the time He made that statement have passed, and still no 2nd comiing. Will you still stick to your guns about this?
  15. Welcome to the boards! Hope you enjoy your visits!
  16. I love prophets with a sense of humor! Pres. Hinkley was great, and I know Pres. Monson will be great too. *not to imply that a prophet is only as good as his sense of humor*
  17. President Monson related a story how a young man in the congregation was copying his every move. He decided to put the young man to the ultimate test. When he got up to address the congregation, he wiggled his ears at the young man...and then demonstrated this while speaking at the priesthood session. It was hilarious. Anyway, the point of the story was how the youth look to and copy their parents and leaders.
  18. Did anyone else see President Monson wiggle his ears? How cool is that?
  19. I forgot to add: "I really liked the book". I got caught up in the story and I remember understanding the characters, and living through them in the story.
  20. My favorite character is Perrin Aybarra, only because I have as much trouble understanding the unspoken language of women as he does. His wife, I forget her name, keeps him on his toes!
  21. It is possible, but it depends on the love the both of you share, and the willingness on both your parts, to make the relationship work. He must repent and do his best to repair the damage done to you and the trust between you. You, also, must be able to move forward with the relationship, and not dwell in the past. I know this is very easy to say, and very difficult to "do", but not impossible. Put Christ first in the relationship and let Him heal the wounds. My in-laws both had affairs, long before I came into the picture, but by they time I met my wife, that stain was washed clean through the love of Christ, and the love they each had for each other, and the willingness on both parties to make it work. I cannot imagine the pain you feel for the betrayal of trust and infidelity perpatrated against you, and you would be justified in ending the relationship. If I were in your circle of freinds I would support you whichever your decision and would be looking out for your welfare. I wish you all the best, and may the Lord send healing your way.
  22. Yeah...he died last September... Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time Series
  23. There are actually 12 or 13 books in the series, 12 are out and the 13th will be the final book. The author was working on the last book when he died, but there will be another author commisioned to finish it up.(the author is LDS, by the way)
  24. I have read the first 7 or 8 books, and so far I have enjoyed them. At 800-900 pages a book, they are quite the read, some parts drag a little, but the storyline kept my interest. I want to read the rest of them just to see how it all turns out.
  25. That is a discussion for a whole other thread...as a matter of fact, there already is a thread on it...just do a search and you will find it.
