If you don't live in Utah, then it will begin around 6:00am. It's like Sunday School and regular school mixed together. Good luck with it.

Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy your visits. I must say, though, one of the first threads you must join in on is the one about what your screen name means...looks interesting!

Hear! Hear! That is the only policy I know of...The rest is up to us.

Ahoy matey...and welcome aboard. We will overlook your godless heathenism...as long as your humor is funny!

I have not read the entire thread, so forgive me if I am repeating something that has already been brought out. Was the Primary teacher a convert? If so, that could easily explain why.... My wife was the Primary president, when one of our kids came home from primary with a crochet'ed bookmark in the shape of the cross. My wife asked me what, if anything she should do about it. We both agreed that it was not a big deal, but it should be brought to the attention of the teacher that we shouldn't be giving crosses out in primary. So my wife, being the president talked to the teacher, who was a dear sweet, older lady, that was confined to an electric scooter. Well, this sweet lady felt embarrassed for being talked to about it. She explained that when she was a little girl, a teacher in the church she attended, gave her one, and it had special meaning to her, and she wanted to do the same thing for her class. It made my wife feel really bad for the teacher, that took the time to make the bookmarks by hand so that her class could have a special memento. Please be gentle if you speak to the teacher, because it could be an innocent oversight.

I don't know exactly, but you might try the Family History Department in Salt Lake City. It might be Family and Church History Department, but it's in SLC. As far as I know, all names must be run through them before work can be done. I don't know if the Family History Library is the same or different thatn the Family History Department, but here is an address you can try: Family History Library 35 North West Temple Street, Room 344 Salt Lake City, UT 84150-3440

What price do you put on a life (long)
Flyonthewall replied to jcastillo1830's topic in General Discussion
The legal system is indeed a frustrating and aggrivating thing. Unfortunately with so much crime going on, manpower and budget is stretched thin so things are prioritized on what has the best chance of going through to completion. Doesn't make things any better, but they can't do more than they are able. I often wonder when and if the days will come where the goodly people will be able to say "conform or die", then carry it out. That, too, isn't a very good option either since a mistake would be permanent. I wish you the best....Oh, and welcome to the board! -
There is only one group that has a ban on proxy work being done, and that is victims of the holocaust. Other than that, I don't know of any "list" of this type. People that do not have any chldren, may have their names submitted by a relative of their father. Aside from that, there are people that do geneology work and gather names and submit them for proxy work. The peoples that lived and died without records being kept will be taken care of in the millenial reign of Christ, when more information will be made available to us. Though records may not have been kept here on earth, they were kept in heaven.

question
Flyonthewall replied to lostnfound's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I don't know about a COMPLETE apostasy, but there was a GREAT apostasy where the power and authority to administer the church was taken away. Men did the best they could with what they understood. Here are a few scriptural references. Amos 8 11 ΒΆ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. Isaiah 60 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 2 Thessalonians 2 1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; -
Unfortunately, this rule may be the result of abuse charges in the past. It's sad that it has come down to that.

Understanding my Mom (is it even possible?)
Flyonthewall replied to SweetieLaurel's topic in Parenting
During our "fast and testimony" meeting, members of the congregation are invited up to the podium to bear their testimonies. Nobody has a censure button so whatever is said will be heard as it is said. The best the Bishop or anyone else could do is tap the speaker on the shoulder and invite them to discuss it later and take a seat. -
Understanding my Mom (is it even possible?)
Flyonthewall replied to SweetieLaurel's topic in Parenting
Laurel, If your mother did use a testimony opportunity to belittle you or coerce you, that was wrong. If she calls you the names that you say she does, that is wrong also. You seem to be on the right track, and you should not get your Patriarchal Blessing until you are ready. I can only guess why your mother is acting the way she is. Perhaps you are not on the path that she has mapped out for your life and is desperate to get you back "on track" - I don't know. I know what it is like to have a child not go in the direction that I have always hoped they would...it's a very helpless feeling. Now all that being said, I know that being 16 years old, parents are the most alien. Also, drama is rampant, and things get blown out of proportion very easily. I'm not trying to say this is the way you are, but only that I don't know both sides of the story. I take it there is some reason why you don't feel ready for your PB, maybe you can talk to your bishop, if you haven't already. -
Welcome to the boards! I used to live in Vancouver, Wa., I know what it's like to be in a soggy climate. I've heard it said that people in the great northwest don't tan, they rust!

I takes a special type of person that can post on a board that is not freindly towards their belief. I have "lurked" at one site that is not freindly and down right abusive towards LDS beliefs, and the end result...I get snippy with those around me. So I have decided not to lurk there anymore, because I don't need to go out of my way to read things that upset me. It's not the disagreements that upset me, but the mindless contempt, condescensionand mockery used.
-
You may be surprised at the amount of support you would get, if the members of your ward understood you wanted to come back. I suggest going to sacrament meeting for a couple of weeks...just sit in the back row. Start attending sunday school after a while. There will be a number of people who introduce themselves and/or welcome you. If you don't know who the Bishop is, ask one of them. If the Bishop introduces himself, which most likely he will, let him know you are interested in attending again. Good luck, and take the step!

It's been a while since I read the books, so let me put my thinking cap on. In the Last Battle - - the ape puts on the lion skin to present himself as Aslan (wolf in sheeps clothing) - the dwarfs will not be taken in no matter what( Lewis' view on athiesm) - the Telmarine that worships Tash, and lives his belief as best he can, is actually a follower of Aslan. (There are actually a couple of paralells in this - All good comes from God, and You are judged by your actions in relation to your understanding of right and wrong) - the dwarfs inside the hut thinking it was still a stable, but everyone else saw something else (blinded to the things of God) - the inside of the hut is larger than the outside (there is more in store for us in the hereafter than the here-and-now (eternal reward)) I don't remember which book this is in, but: Aslan told the children that they were brought into Narnia, and by knowing him there, it would allow them to know them in their world. I'm headed out the door right now, but there are a lot of paralells in each book. I'm sure others can help me out and give some more examples.
-
There are a lot of things in the Chronicles of Narnia that are paralelled in or from the gospels. The "Not a Tame Lion" point is one of them. Some are more obvious than others. You expressed your understanding of it far better than I could. Thanks for putting it into words.

Trying to set the record straight with those who are only interested in bashing, is an uphill battle. If you kept your cool through all that, then you came out on top.

There are certain numbers that seem to hold some significance in the scriptures: 3, 7, 12, 40, to name a few. I think they mean something more than just a number, but not in any "numerology" way. As with anything in the temple, it is most likely symbolic of something, but I can't nail down the meaning.

In that case, a-train's response contains an official response by Gordon B. Hinckley.

My take on this, is that it was Brigham Young's understanding or interpretation on the subject matter, and as a Prophet of the Lord, the Lord stood by his decision. I don't know of any revelation as the cause of the ban so has to be the interpretation of the prophet. I have heard reports that David O. McKay wanted to address the ban but that the Lord basically told him "not yet". I wish I had the source on this...I'll see if I can find it.
