  1. >>>30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.<<< I stay out of these conversations because I think most of the time they lead no where. However, this time I will interject a small bit part. Twenty+ years ago I was taking a D&C class from Brother Luan Otten at BYU. We discussed Eternal Marriage, plural marriage, and yes, even the scriptures in Jacob. He then asked the class to raise their hands if they were decended from "polygamists". From memory I recall probably 80% of the class raised their hands. So, apparently there are times when the Lord does, and would like, to raise up "seed onto" Him. O43
  2. I am not a U of U fan, but yesterday as they played Michigan I find myself rooting for them. I thought that the interception that was called back on Michigan's first drive, because of "pass interference" was typical Big Ten homefield advantage. But the U overcame and came out on top. Good job! O43
  3. I like the Great Lakes area myself. But that doesn't mean the Central America region is out of the question. Remember Nephi took his people and ran. Hugh Nibley gives good evidence that ancient Americans were a little more mobile than we probably would give them credit for. I doubt they were as provincial as we might assume. Although other than the Book of Alma (outside of Nephi building his ship amd the Jaradite barges), there isn't much by way of transportation, but rivers and stream could have carried any inhabitant of the America's just about anywhere they wanted to go. Futbol

How many of the returned missionaries here returned to the States (or Canada) with an appreciation for futbol (soccer). One of my stations on my satellite is the Fox Soccer Channel. I have to admit from August to May I get up every Saturday morning, eush downstairs and catch an English Premier League match. Arsenal is my favorite, but I also like the underdog West Ham. It's something totally new for me, but I find it quite compelling. O43
  5. My two favorite shows on TV both are on the Travel Channel. Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. They go places I will probably never see, and experience things I have always wanted to try. (Within reason of course.) Bourdain is crass, but inside him you do see a fellow who is genuinely interested in the people he meets, and when he's not showing off, is quite friendly and appreciative. Andrew Zimmern is just a hoot. Eating the fried scorpions is always fun to watch. O43
  6. I just weighed myself this morning. Three/four weeks ago I was at 194. This morning I was 186. So, I am pleased. I have been jogging 2.5 to 3.5 regularly now per workout. When I started a 1/2 mile was brutal. Last night I got to 1.5 miles and had to stop because things got moving and I got the call of nature. I hate that, but it does seem to be a result of jogging at times. Oh and I'm climbing the stairs at work now without sucking wind. O43
  7. So England could have a little brother to stick up for them. J.
  8. Saturday 3.3 mile jog in. Today 2.25. In two weeks I want to run 4 miles in a hour. Not flaming fast, but building up mileage. Jon
  9. Two years ago I ran a 5k and toward the end I was catching up to a young lady who was bigger than me. I thought "There's no way I'm letting her finish before me!" So I started to ran faster, and would have caught her. But as she got closer to the finish line she had friends there who started cheering her on and waving towels )or something) and she was grinning and all happy. Then I realized it didn't matter if I finished before her so I slowed down and let her enjoy the moment. J.
  10. Well things are looking up. I'm down 4-5 pounds and this morning was able to jog (not run) 3.3 miles. Felt good when I was finished. Tomorrow is the day of rest, will return Monday and see how I feel. J.
  11. Exercise and diet. Check out No S Diet: No snacks, sweets, seconds, except on days that start with S.. It's the most sensible eating plan I have seen in awhile. Walking/jogging circuits work well as well as 2-3 days of strength training a week. Find what works for you. O43
  12. I hope so. A year ago my wife and I had to put a wonderful German Shepard to sleep who had spent the previous fourteen years being a pest, a pet, the most incredible watch dog you'd ever seen, and most importantly part of the family. During his last few months, when he couldn't climb the stairs to our bedroom, he'd stand at the bottom of the stairs and bark at night. So I'd go down with my blanket and pillow and sleep on the couch. He's lie down next to the couch all night. O43
  13. No baseball cap or mustache. In fact I am the anti-Magnum. Under six foot, definitely not tan. But, I do have seasons 1-5 on DVD. O43
  14. I spent my summer strength training and have "bloated" a bit. So, two weeks ago I started walk/jogging and then last week jogged and jumped rope. Last night I got a 1.9 mile jog in. Last time I did this with commitment I got my weight from 190 to 172 and my pulse down to 54 resting. We'll see how it turns out. So far I have had no lower back pain which is a good sign, usually that is what sidelines me. Goals: A) Get weight down to 170 B) be fit for ski season C) possibly be able to finish the Jackson Hole Half Marathon in 11 months. If they still have it. D) Look beter in my Magnum PI Hawaiian shirt. O43
  15. This forum is new. And I have to say Heather got it on here muy rapido! I asked her. I was tired of other foums dedicated to running, or health, or weighlifting, or whatever, and everyone treating everyone else like big piles of dirt. Maybe we can all sit and type about health, diet, exercise, etc. without being like people on other forums. O43
  16. I go to the doc and get Ambien. O43
  17. 95%, I thought there was 23 amendments in the Constitution.

    Golf

Slice advise, I used to have a horrible slice also. I slowed down my swing a bit and went with a 10* Callaway Warbird (which is 10+ years old). I'm strong enough, for the courses I play (one fairway is 500+ yards long) I can get to where I need to go with rescue woods off the tee. I'm using Bazooka irons that my dad won in a tournament. But I still find the axiom: "drive for show, putt for dow" to be absolutely accurate. It doesn't do much good to get to the green in 2 when you 3 putt. O43
  19. I don't think "any parts" of Mormonism make it a cult. I think the word cult is used to cast a negative light on "Mormons", but in reality it isn't any more or less "of a cult" than any other religious belief system. It's just in the Western World you can really see heads pop up an pay attention when you say "cult"! O43
  20. I am thnakful for homeruns and brautwursts! O43
  21. Two things stand out in regards to horses in Americs: the Apaloosa of Idaho and Washington is not related to any horse the Spamiards brought with them. (I have also heard similar things said about the Mustang, it's much to small to be a Spanish war horse), and in addition, the plains Indians were sure accomplished horsemen for only having been introduced to the horse for 300-400 years. It has been said the the American Indian was the best light cavalry in the world. O43
  22. I do too, but I get tired of the "Redeem Team" shtick. I often wonder if other country's media forces build such sensationalism around their athletes that NBC does to ours? O43
  23. I guess with what has happened in the Cacasus this week we can say Soviets again. I don't think they'll have a close game. I don't think the men will either actually. O43
  24. I will check out that website. Thank you. O43
  25. "But sweetheart, the game just started!" Actually ladies, thank you for your wonderful posts! O43
