  1. Yes, lately I've been putting school first, and I'm constantly giving myself a boot to the head to fix that only to screw it up again and lather rinse repeat. It's so easy to get out of order. It requires constant vigilance.
  2. How interesting that I chose a sig line today that would do well in this situation. And odder still that a few hours later I decided to read this thread when before I decided to ignore it . . . "Grammy Flash used to always say, the trouble with an eye for an eye is that everybody ends up blind." -The Flash, Justice League Unlimited We would do well to remember that.
  3. Are the Doctrine and Covenants even a part of your RLDS scriptures, Dale?
  4. The song by Frou Frou called let go helped my during my trials when my husband and I separated. Satan is working hard to destroy what you've repaired. Talk to your Bishop alone and seek advice on how to answer her questions because the more details she knows the longer it'll take her to heal. Do what you can. If you give it 100% and follow the Spirit in all things (which requires daily prayer) then if she still decides to leave then at least you'll know that you did your absolute best to keep it together.
  5. Exactly. It is the same for me. I can not be a good companion, a helpmeet, for my husband unless I am in line with God. Every time I start veering off it affects the way I deal with things and leads to contention. Things can not be right for my daughter, I do not parent as well, unless her father and I are united. Going to Church means nothing if things at home are not right. A dysfunctional family can go to Church but if they are not working to fix the dysfunction it's all a facade. Also, if I am bedridden and unable to attend Church I can still read my scriptures and pray and keep in contact with members of the Church (especially if Visiting and Home Teachers are doing their job), and be in line with the afore mentioned things. If I am putting all my time into my job or school and leaving everything else behind my performance goes down hill, as well as my happiness and satisfaction in life.
  6. Yeah? Interesting, maybe he's not a crazy old geezer! I'll let him know next I see him.
  7. I must ask, why is every member of the Church of Jesus Christ ignoring Skippy's post? We have church manuals that have the Teachings of Modern Day Prophets. Below is one from Brigham Young, and it has been put forth again in our time to be taught in Priesthood and Relief Society. Therefore what is below IS official doctrine. This does not say however, that God the Father was not God at the time he was mortal. Jesus Christ was a God before He came to Earth and received a body. He was also a God during his mortal life and after. And thus it is with God the Father. Was God the Father crucified? I do not know. My father believes that is not the case. He believes that Jesus Christ is the only Savior to ever exist because the scriptures say that His atonement is infinite. And thusly He atoned for every person to ever exist on every single world that has existed and will exist. My father also believes that God the Father is the first of us to gain active sentience; to actually DO something with His intellect and thus He started the whole cycle and that we are not the first world He created. . . Therefore that is why God the Father is the Greatest of All. I do not know if my father's speculation is correct or not. But I do know that the above quoted material is correct. All of the church manuals for Relief Society and Priesthood are official doctrine. So are all the General Conferences.
  8. A separation does not have to mean the end. My husband and I were separated for two years before we got back together. For us it was a blessing. I was very prayerful, and I asked for help in knowing what to do to keep my family together, that way I would know that I did everything possible. I had to undergo a change and accept and follow the guidance of the Spirit even when I did not feel like it. Welcome.
  9. It is? I've never heard that before. Why is that?
  10. I am inclined to agree with you. But, even homosexuals reject polygamy. Why? Because they know that it is more likely that people will accept homosexual monogamous couples than any sort of polygamous relationship.
  11. Breezy your post gave me the warm fuzzies. Pookie, some people don't get it, period the end. Don't worry about them. There are people who will and it's for them that we rebuke falsehoods.
  12. I am uncertain. While in the book "the teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr", Joseph reasons so, but such reasoning is in an infinite loop and that makes little sense to me (as in Heavenly Father is the Son of His Heavenly Father and so on and so forth). I do know that the scriptures talk about the universe being one eternal round however. . . Also, I have to wonder, which God was Snow refering to? God the Father or God the Son Jesus Christ? If we are speaking of Jesus Christ then the answer is a resounding "Yes!" If we're speaking of the Father, then I have to wonder at the specifics.
  13. They let me skate by. I would ditch all the time and hardly ever do any work. I remember one semester getting a D- in English. Everything else were either incompletes or Fs. My GPA that semester was 0.19. That D- counted towards my total units. . . EDIT: a-train what extras are you refering to? VoL: I believe standardized tests should not be used until the age of fourteen. Norway is like that and they have a great educational results.
  14. I only have second hand experience. A friend in Vegas was one. The mother-to-be was horribly paranoid all the time about her health and what she was doing and eating, to the point, at least to my friend, of insanity. My friend got to the point where she started feeling like it was her child simply because the baby was growing in her. It ended badly. My friend felt bitter at the end and she was estranged from the lady she was carrying for. My husband said that such is common.
  15. I've gotta ask, if your kids are eating what their Mom eats then how is it that they are choosing to be vegetarian? I do agree however that diet affects behavior. Most people eat too much red meat and WAY too many simple carbohydrates. My daughter behaves very well in Church as well. I think a part of it is her diet and part of it is parental guidance. She knows when it's okay to run around like a crazy monkey and when it's time to be reverent. She is also health conscience. It's so cute when she asks me a for a healthy snack to eat!
  16. Amen to that. The only time I have a problem with someone marrying someone older is if I get the vibe that the older person is taking advantage of the younger person's naivete. No offense to the young out there, but many just out of high school young folk seem to be in fairytale land. I know I was! Basically, one should always be prayerful and receive spiritual confirmation as to whether or not they should marry whom they are wanting to marry. If the Spirit gives you ago, then age makes no difference to me.
  17. Yes. Mothers would tell their children to lie. And the children will. I have seen this happen on a smaller scale without polygamy being involved. And yes because other children are not talking does nto mean that they are not just as abused.
  18. It is not polygamy that is the problem but the manner in which it is executed. I know people online who are in polygamous relationships (they are not RLDS), but it is between consenting ADULTS. There is a distinct difference between consenting adults and children.
  19. If you had a family member serving in Iraq, wouldn't you want to take the call? The kid was probably excited to get the call and just wanted to talk to his Dad. The men out there probably do not have a lot of time they can talk on the phone so every second is precious. So yes, they should make an exception for this. His father might be dead tomorrow.
  20. Well, you make it hot so it'll dissolve, but then you wait for it to be warm before you drink it so by the time you drink it, it's not actually hot anymore. Doesnt' everyone do this? EDIT: Also, at the time, alcoholic drinks were called "fire water" by the Native Americans.
  21. Yes, yes it is. However, in very small amounts, such as what is in chocolate, caffeine is okay. Here is an article about why we are not to consume caffeine. CAFFEINE AFFECTS THE BRAIN AND IMAGING FINDINGS April 26, 2006 by Daniel G. Amen M.D. Caffeine's effects need to be considered in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies of blood circulation in the brain, according to a study appearing in the April issue of the journal Radiology. The study, from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., confirmed that a dose of caffeine equivalent to two or three cups of coffee can constrict the blood vessels in the brain and cause a reduction in cerebral blood flow. It also found that heavy caffeine users had more blood flow to the brain when they were in a withdrawal state, indicating a direct correlation between blood flow measurements and the amount of regular caffeine intake. "The more caffeine you drink on a regular basis, the higher your cerebral blood flow will be when you do not consume caffeine," said lead author Aaron S. Field, M.D., Ph.D., now assistant professor of radiology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Functional MR images depict areas of the brain that are activated in response to a cognitive or motor task or a visual or auditory stimulus. The fMRI scan can be designed to emphasize different features of brain anatomy and physiology, which is especially useful for those at risk for stroke and for evaluation of brain tumors prior to surgery. "When studying cerebral perfusion, or blood flow to the brain, it is best to have patients consume their regular daily amount of caffeine before imaging," Dr. Field said. "Our research showed that the brain adapts to the level of caffeine typically consumed and adjusts cerebral blood flow accordingly. Simply telling people not to drink caffeinated beverages before fMRI is not a feasible solution, because the withdrawal state will skew results." Previous research has shown caffeine consumption diminishes blood flow to the brain. For this study, the researchers used quantitative perfusion MRI (a type of functional MRI) to evaluate the effects of caffeine consumption and withdrawal on cerebral blood flow in 20 healthy adults. According to the study, the daily per-person caffeine consumption in the United States is approximately 238 milligrams, or a little more than two cups of coffee. Half of the study group was categorized as "low" caffeine consumption (average of 41 mg of caffeine daily), and the other half as "high" caffeine consumption (average of 648 mg of caffeine daily). The patients were scanned with perfusion imaging at approximately the same time of day on two different days. Patients were randomly selected to receive a placebo on one day and a 250 mg dose of caffeine on the other day approximately 90 minutes before the scan. To induce caffeine withdrawal, patients abstained from caffeine for at least 30 hours before the test. The researchers found that caffeine reduced cerebral blood flow in gray matter areas by approximately 23 percent in all patients. The cerebral blood flow was reduced in the gray matter in the front of the brain by 26 percent in heavy caffeine users and 19 percent in the light caffeine users. During withdrawal, cerebral blood flow in heavy caffeine users exceeded that of the light users by more than 30 percent. "Dramatic differences in cerebral blood flow measurement can be seen from one day to the next based on a single cup of coffee," Dr. Field explained. "This shows researchers need to control for caffeine effects." Dr. Field noted that the ramifications of this study apply only to very specific types of MR scans that are not routinely utilized. "The average person will not need to worry about caffeine consumption when having an MRI," he said. The researchers suggest that future studies might address the potential effects of tobacco, alcohol and over-the-counter and prescription medications on cerebral blood flow and fMRI. Link to Article: Brain SPECT Imaging/Scans,ADD,ADHD,Depression,Tests,Symptoms,Diagnosis,Treatments, Amen Clinics With all that, I do understand that caffeine is not the only thing, but I do believe the negative affect of tannins on animals such as humans (which I posted in my first post of thise thread) is the other reason which would explain not being able to drink decaf (though decaf still contains 8-13mg of caffeine in an eight ounce cup).
  22. You want teas that do not have caffiene in them. It is possible to obtain green tea without caffiene. Though some teas have tannins in them. Not all things with tannin is bad, such as berries, and same with caffiene such as chocolate. I am thinking in the case of tannins it might have something to do with the hydrolization process. I'd have to do more research on that though. Tannin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia EDIT: I also just found this link, I'm going over it right now and thought you'd might be interested in taking a look at it regarding tannins. Regarding monogastrics like humans who only have one gastric chamber, stomach it says "Animals fed diets with a level of tannins under 5% experience depressed growth rates, low protein utilization, damage to the mucosal lining of the digestive tract, alteration in the excretion of certain cations, and increased excretion of proteins and essential amino acids. In poultry, small quantities of tannins in the diet cause adverse effects levels from 0.5 to 2.0% can cause depression in growth and egg production, levels from 3 to 7% can cause death. In swine, similar harmful effects of tannins have been found. The addition of additional proteins or amino acids may alleviate the antinutritional effects of tannins. Levels of tannins above 5% of the diet are often lethal." Tannins
  23. Girls Record Brutal Attack On Teen To Allegedly Post On YouTube - News Story - WFTV Orlando POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- Video was released late Monday afternoon showing a brutal beating at the hands of a gang of teenage girls. Their motivation for the attack was allegedly so they could post the video on YouTube and MySpace. The victim reported the attack after she was beaten so badly she had to be treated at the hospital. That's when the sheriff's office started looking into it and learned about the video. The sheriff calls it shocking, saying he's never seen anything like it. It was a vicious attack all captured on home video inside a Polk County home. When 16-year-old Victoria Lindsay arrived at her friend's house where she had been staying, six girls were waiting. Immediately, they started yelling and one girl began pummeling the victim. On the video, the girls can be heard encouraging the fight in the background, even taunting Lindsay to fight back, all while one of them held the camera. The victim's family has said it was an elaborate plot to injure and embarrass Victoria Lindsay. Lindsay's parents couldn't believe their daughter had to endure the attack. "That's my Tori. Don't do that to my Tori," said the victim's mother. The 16-year-old suffered a concussion, eye injuries and several bruises. During the attack, two others were outside keeping watch according to the sheriff's office. In fact, the sheriff said, Lindsay was lured into the home for the sole purpose of capturing and posting the video on the Internet. According to the sheriff's office arrest affidavit, Lindsay told deputies they "were going to post the beating on MySpace and YouTube." Instead, it's the sheriff's office that ended up releasing it to the media and now all eight suspects accused of making it happen are charged with very serious crimes. All suspects face charges for false imprisonment and battery. Three of them were charged with kidnapping because, the sheriff's office said, they forced Lindsay into a car and drove her to another location after the beating. The suspects were identified as 17-year-old Mercades Nichols, 17-year-old Brittini Hardcastle, 14-year-old April Cooper, 16-year-old Cara Murphy, 17-year-old Britney Mayes and 15-year-old Kayla Hassell. Zachary Ashley, 17, and Stephen Schumaker, 18, were identified by deputies as the lookouts. "They weren't really involved, I don't know. I'm just overwhelmed by all of it. I don't know why the girls have them involved," said Debbie Shumaker, Stephen's mother. All six of the girls attend Mulberry High School, according to the sheriff's office arrest affidavit.
