Go to your local county office to file for cash & food stamp aid. You may also be able to file for unemployment. While I'm not always in favor of the way the government administers social programs, I'm glad we have them available. They may also be able to help you find a job - as they are motivated to get as many people off of taxpayer benefits as possible. If you're in an LDS populated area, you can go to an LDS employment center. They will usually have a class on how to write a resume and how to answer the tough questions in interviews. I went through this myself about 4 years ago and it was a GREAT workshop (even though I was a bank manager and a manager of a fast-food restaurant and hired quite a few people). Info on the Career Workshop: Career Workshop Here's where to find an LDS Employment center close to you: Welfare locations Here's where you can find job listings that were listed with LDS employment: Find Jobs and Other Opportunities Hang in there! You can find good jobs if you know how to present yourself and utilize the HIDDEN job market.

Well said! The 3 degrees of glory are structured so that those in the Celestial Kingdom can always visit those in the Terrestial and Telestial kingdoms. Those in the Terrestial can visit those in the Telestial, but are unable to visit those in the Celestial. Basically, Heavenly Mother can visit whomever she wants at anytime. But the priviledge to LIVE with Her falls upon us to live and follow the path that our Father and Christ want for us. -

I'm going to hijack the thread a bit here. If a booklet is produced by the Church for the purposes of learning and instruction... isn't it considered an "Official Publication" for our edification and learning? Isn't it a source to learn more about the Gospel and our place in it? If the Church wants us to learn about it, it has meaning and it is doctrine. Just because it isn't in the 4-standard works doesn't mean it isn't something we need to learn about. We as LDS, believe in an open cannon of scripture: Article of Faith #9: We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. From the Primary Manual: LDS.org - Primary Chapter Detail - I Am a Child of God "Explain that we all lived in heaven with Heavenly Father before we came to this earth. We are his children. That is why we call him Heavenly Father. We also lived with our heavenly mother and all the rest of Heavenly Father’s children. Everyone who has been born on the earth is a child of Heavenly Father. We do not remember living with Heavenly Father, but we know we are his children because we read it in the scriptures." If little kids can be taught it, isn't it doctrine that we can ALL learn from? Quotations from President Lee: LDS.org - Ensign Article - A Sure Trumpet Sound: Quotations from President Lee Revelation There are forces that work beyond our sight. Sometimes we think the whole job is up to us, forgetful that there are loved ones beyond our sight who are thinking about us and our children. We forget that we have a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother who are even more concerned, probably, than our earthly father and mother, and that influences from beyond are constantly working to try to help us when we do all we can. I don't know what else we need to help us learn the doctrine of the kingdom than the simplicity of teaching children and a quote from a Latter Day Prophet. (Well, faith may help some. ) -

If one of your children looked you straight in the eye and intensely said "I HATE YOU!" - how would you feel? How should your husband feel about his wife being treated in such a way by his children? Shouldn't a loving husband protect his wife against such treatment from anybody - let alone his own children? If we were ants on a log, or flies or plants, then I don't think Mother would care as we would be mere insects/plants/mortals. But we're human beings and we're children of a Heavenly Father (and Mother). Mom's feelings are much more tender than Father's. "Honor thy father and mother - that thy days may be long in the land." "Your mother and I brought you in this world. We can take you OUT!" (Bill Cosby) -
I think soda water would probably work just as well. Add some baking soda and you can really have some fun!

Let me put it a different way: If it wasn't doctrinal, don't you think they would've removed it? -

First Presidency Preface to Hymns - LDS Church Music While I can't find anything specific, I've always been taught that the hymn book is an "unofficial" 5th to the Standard Works. -

There is only one place in LDS scripture that talks about a Heavenly Mother - and that's our Hymn book in the hymn "O My Father". One of the versus teaches that we "have a Mother there." And yes, the hymn book is also considered scripture along with the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. -

Just think of how God's name and Christ's names have been taken in vain and even turned into vulgar expressions. Would you want your mother's or wife's name to be treated similarly? Because if it was a widely known aspect of the gospel, you can bet that Her name would be dragged through the mud as well. -

My opinion is not "completely" doctrinal, but I think it makes sense. There are TWO types of hell: 1 - Physical Place = Telestial Kingdom (which is a Kingdom for those of the lowest degree) and Outer Darkness. 2 - Not being in the presence of God is also hell. Remember all the times the word "damn" and "damned" appear in the scriptures? That is because our progression towards our Father in Heaven has stopped and we are "damned" because we aren't able to overcome our own faults, etc. We are forever damned until and unless we take upon ourselves the name of Christ and follow Him. We may be "damned" to the lower portion of the Celestial Kingdom, or we may be damned to Outer Darkness. All of these are hell to the soul of he who is not living in the presence of our Father. Hope this makes sense.

All wards will have a Christmas program on the Sunday closest to Christmas (choir singing and prepared talks). There will be a First Presidency message usually on the 1st Sunday of the month (televised). Our hymn of Joy to the World (hymn #201) is just a tiny bit different. Instead of "Heaven and Nature sing" it's "Saints and Angels sing". Some stake centers may celebrate Christmas with a stake "sing-a-long" of Handel's Messiah. (If your stake does this - don't miss it! It's a GREAT piece - although challenging to sing!) And there's ALWAYS some Elder or High Priest that wears a matching Christmas tie & socks combo! :)

You need a BREAK from him and the environment that you've been in so you can clear your head. This is NOT the time to make long-term decisions. Get out and go see your parents and stay with them for a while (a week or two). While you're there, you can "de-tox" yourself and start to think clearly and re-connect with who you were before you were married. On a personal note, while I never hit my wife, my first year of marriage was rocky. I threw things. I once threw a full laundry basket through the bedroom door while I was in a fit of rage (trying to clean up the house and find missing items at the same time) and my wife walked right into it while it was still flying through the air! (Yes, she'd admit that story exactly as I describe it.) When I threw things, I knew that I needed to get out of the house. So I went for long drives - about 50-100 miles from home and back again (gas was cheaper then). My wife kept thinking that I was going to leave her, but getting away was my way of diffusing the situation and letting ME have time to calm down. My wife took my daughter with her to spend time with MY folks for about a week. This gave me time to think and be by myself - and to MISS her and my daughter. Wow, that was a difficult time - because I was seriously wondering if she was going to leave me. I still yell from time to time. I still get frustrated when I can't find things. I think I've resigned myself to not be frustrated with the cleanliness of the house when we have 3 kids! (Okay, so I lowered my living standards to have a happier marriage - I think that's a good trade-off!) Men are not perfect by any means. However, physical abuse should NEVER be tolerated. I don't believe that my wife ever thought that her life was in danger. But she felt prompted to leave --- for a while --- and stay with my parents. (We do wrestle with each other quite a bit and sometimes one of us gets hurt - but that's horseplay, not anger.) You should leave now --- as this will be one of the strongest ways for you to communicate with him --- by your absence.

My girlfriend waited for me and we married soon after my mission was completed. Yes, my mission president ALSO said that she wouldn't wait for me. Yes, he wanted me to focus... but if you knew me, you'd know that I was already focused. For all missionaries, I'll quote "Best Two Years": Your girlfriend won't wait for you. Your wife will. In your letters, share testimony and church stories. Your missionary should be writing about his experiences, NOT how much he misses you. That's okay for a signature close, but not for an entire letter. He should write about what he's learning, his companions, his triumphs and struggles. Keep your letters talking about his mission and you'll grow together while you're apart. If they're more "lovey-dovey" then they'll quickly get boring and you will probably move on to someone else... who is more interesting!

I've been speaking with my orthodox Jewish assistant. She's just a wonderful human being who is very knowledgable in Hebrew and Judaism as a whole. I learn a lot from her. We've been talking about some theological similarities and differences between the LDS and Judaism. She did reference a page on wikipedia abou those differences and still has concerns about some LDS practices. Regardless, I told her about the significance of LDS temples and that it is there that families are united for time and eternity. They are sacred to us... and that is just ONE reason why there were protests outside of the temple. It's interesting to have religious discussions with her. She is definitely closed minded, but I learn more about Judaism from her and she'll learn a little bit more of Mormonism from me. (I did give her an Irving Cohen recording of his talk about his conversion from Judaism to Mormonism - and that she might find it interesting. We have yet to talk about it.)

Is anyone having any missionary opportunities to share our beliefs of the gospel with others - due to current events? Please share! (This is the BEST way to personally combat the negative news and turn them into wonderful opportunities to speak to others about our beliefs and views of families and the gospel!)

Fourteen Fundaments in Following the Prophet

I'm all for social programs - if it can be PAID for and administered well. We can only do the best we can with what we have to choose from. Unfortunately, I think in politics, it's many times a choice between the "lesser of two evils". My business partner is from Russia. He believes in Capitalism. He likes social programs, but doesn't like the government to administer them. He thinks that the government should fund social programs through churches and other non-profits, instead of the government assuming direct control. Unfortunately, the government likes more control over many things, so I don't think we'll be seeing that kind of shift anytime soon. Will we be held accountable for who/what we vote for? I believe that it will be only to the degree that it helps to build up/tear down the Kingdom of God here on the earth.
