  3. I went to the Temple on Tuesday for an Endowment session, and had a rather interesting experience. I have a very time staying focused on only one thing at a time, so sometimes keeping my full attention on what's happening in an Endowment session is a challenge. I try to catch myself when I feel my mind wandering, but inevitably there are a few times during where it gets away from me. Tuesday was different though. I had painted my nails on Sunday, with a nail polish in a shade called "Eternal Optimist". For some reason, whenever my attention would waver and I would look down at my hands, I would remember the name of the polish and think of the Eternal optimism, or Hope, that the Endowment gives me. It kicked my attention right back to where it should be. My mind didn't wander nearly as much as it usually does, and I had a wonderful Temple experience. :) All because of my nail polish. Ever had a spiritual experience come from an unusual or unexpected source?
  4. Went back and edited my post. Whoops.
  5. Another thing to consider is how long-lived the men in your family are. If you were to get a surrogat and she got pregnant right now you would be 73/74 when the baby reached 18. Do the men in your family typically live that long? Also, you'll be dealing with a teenager in your 60's. What kind of life do the men of your family typically have in their 60's and 70's? Do you currently have any health issues that are likely to get worse with age? (like weak knees) Is there a family history of heart disease? Osteoporosis? Or any other chronic condition that would put limitations on your ability to parent?

  14. As far as animals go, I don't necessarily think they're the exact animals mentioned, but perhaps animals that had a similar appearance and/or purpose. Perhaps the horses were actually llamas? I mean, I don't think I've ever looked at a hippopotamus and thought it looked anything like a horse, and yet that's what it's name means: "water horse". Some Greek explorer saw it and DID think it looked like a horse, and gave it that name. Perhaps that's the situation with the "horse" mentioned in the Book of Mormon as well.
  15. I agree. A change in how a program operates, or how it teaches, doesn't necessarily mean it was *wrong* before. Perhaps the previous program wasn't achieving the goals they had set, or it was working, but they think this might work *better*. Or they just felt prompted to try something new. I think it's wonderful that the Church is willing to let it's programs evolve and change as the face of the church changes. We're an international church with new converts coming in all the time who have their own unique backgrounds and needs and insights. We'd be missing out on a lot of wonderful opportunities for growth if we stayed stuck in our ways. :) (and please note I'm talking about *programs* here, not Doctrine )
