Autumn, I am sorry for your trials, middle school is a tough time to get through anyway, and without people you can hang out with, pressure gets worse. And it's hard to keep your standards where they should be without support from others your own age. How is your group support at church? You may have to draw on outside support right now, until your "guy" friends come to respect you for having standards. And I don't think the world has changed so much from when my girls were teenagers..... some of their best friends were guys...who respected them for who they were and what they stood up for. My advice is to be honest with the guys... if they are any kind of friend at all, they will not understand everything anyway...cause they are guys .... but they should respect your standards you want to keep, and stand by you. And who knows.... maybe the inactives may decide they miss out on some of the fun stuff at church and start going again... stranger things have happened yes? :)

Talk about small worlds.... one of the kids (20 year old) I work with was talking world politics with me today, and he mentioned what kind of a political statement he got from this Star Wars movie...he said a lot of what you said TS....He started with how he thinks Lucas is a genius, to spread his statements in a story line. He's a smart kid, and I hadn't thought really about the political references till he brought them up...and then here they are again..... wow.

Good statement....but don't you think that to sacrifice something of yourself to try to obtain betterment for yourself and others is not a sacrifice in vein?

Tick A good man is (and still will be) worth MORE than his weight in gold. And there will always be women around to help direct those who ask for direction....you know what they say....most men won't ask for directions cause they thought they knew it all, and don't want others to know they are lost It takes a real man to ask. I don't think that it demasculinises a man at all.

Great News! I know it took a lot of work for him to get that far! WAY TO GO NICK!!

I saw it at a morning showing of it today.... I thought it really helped you understand the underlying reasons behind the turning of Skywalker into Vader. It was not all about power and control, the sub story of Padme and Anakin gave you a different insight into his (Anakin's) emotions. Seeing his transformation from good into evil was a major point of the movie. And, I understood the movie differently than some people did, my son-in-law was dissappointed because of the "love" angle of the movie.......but I think that love was the emotion that started the whole "look to the dark side" thing to begin with.Agreed that the light saber scenes were great... but I loved watching Yoda in action, and always enjoy watching R2D2.

Stay, because that totaly sexy man beast, sethus, wants you to. [ 2 ] I voted that way....hoping that Setheus would change his pic back. Otherwise, I would have just voted yes, it is fun to see some life back into this board
-
JD~ I think you contribute a lot to this board, don't ever think I don't recognize that fact. I really struck a nerve with my defense of USN, but he's like my adopted son, so you see I have to protect my own. I say that you SHOULD because that's part of who you are. I also stick up for Bat, maybe I'm a schmuck for finding the good in people, I don't know But I love your posts John Doe, You may just have to learn to PM me and let me have it! I'm a big girl, I can take it
-
Dear Mr. Doe, Respond or not, I know you will still read this post. I love my now agnostic son, and did not force him to go to church, he however, did enjoy having the missionaries come around to debate with. And my personal life raising my children is really my concern now isn't it? All I am saying is that sometimes we need to try, to understand some situations or circumstances. We can't all be perfect Peter Priesthood holders, or Molly Mormons. IMHO only
-
John Doe,In the years I have known USN...I can honestly say that he communicates with language you may not like, but he has a brilliant mind and I learned to take him as is and not try to change who he is. (well, not much anyway) I'm sure that many of us have or had children who habitually used four letter words to describe their feelings, I still love my son, he hasn't grown out of it yet, and neither has USN.... I've learned to deal with others...it really isn't that hard to overlook some bad when the good is staring you in the face. THANKS KID!:)And thank you Jenifer! Glad to see again :) Say hi to Bat for me!
-
Sorry Seth.... I've always been a rebel deep inside...and you can get me to do a lot of crazy things....but my dear....you changed your avitar on me....so alas, I couldn't find it within myself to vote my heart....so I had to vote my mind
-
OK, Setheus....it's off and I've got my Zippo in hand.....I'm ready to rumble
-
username.....did your scoutmaster really say that?
-
Well, I've been a bit busy...and just to this thread....nice info from boardmembers :) And Pushka...I see the monster cat just fine! Jenda.... I'll say it again about your avitar.... Love it, Love it Love it :) I get my boardname from my nickname my grandmother gave me when I was little. And I use it on every board I am on now....less confusing that way! And I really do love the name...cause it reminds me of my grandma.

Hey kiddo....check your pm file!

Good one LT :)No matter what....words of wisdom....Everyone needs to feel worthy of something...

We need to accept people who who they are, idiosyncrasies and all. Everyone of us has something that bugs the heck out of someone else at one time or another. The world is not a perfect place with everyone cloned from the same DNA structure, we are all different. Different is good, it helps other people learn (or it should) Too many people want to exist in their own little comfort zone without trying to see the world from another viewpoint. My two cents......worth 1/2 penney now

TS~ You know all you have to do is ask and there will be a prayer for you. We all have to go thru our own personal trials (and our own personal hell) You know how to get ahold of me if you need to talk, I'm just a short PM away! And John the Doe was an Apostle?

WHO YOU BEEN TALKING TOO ? I can deny everything!

SF......check your PM box. -
Pushka~ I was taught in a public high school in Oregon, and after listening to my science teacher give his spiel on Darwin and evalution ...I asked if he could counter that theory with the knowledge that others have about God and creation. He told me he couldn't, that religions was not allowed to be taught as a theory in the high school, because of the church and state laws. I told him I couldn't sit there and listen to Darwin any longer, and left the classroom. He later told me that he understood my feelings, and was sorry he couldn't do anything...his hands were tied. The principal of the school, however, allowed us to hold prayer/bible meetings in the mornings in the auditorium before school hours (as to not interfere with any school teachings). Glad that the UK has some sense when it comes to what is important for school children. Great ideas you have TS...you, as usual, have some very interesting thoughts. Oh....and this one... Maybe Hammurabi got his inspiritation from the same source as Moses did?
-
Sarcastic or not TS~ I do think you have a point about the different religions and their morals that apply. But I would keep the display to the top 8 religions or so, thinking that every other religion would have to have some of the basic moral/values as those displayed.PD~ Question? Because of our nations ever increasing melting pot of cultural differences, do you really see a problem with the possibility of "reminding" people of the laws, or the moralistic nature of each religion? I wouldn't put up anything that said "honor others who believe in what you do....kill or torture the rest", but I'm sure that there are honorable moral values that could be found in each religion.

SF~ I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I think that you could have the most supportive family in the world behind you....but if you (he-she-they-etc) doesn't recognize the problem and want to change their life....it isn't going to happen. I think he would have stood a better chance in life going thru the rehab program if his father didn't interfere. At least it would have given him food for thought, and he would have known where to go when he decided to help himself. Perhaps, he may have made that realization while in the program. Sometimes the what if's are hard to live with. If he (your friend) was a 10 or 12 year old child, I could understand a father deny any problem and want to save the child from the clutches of a rehab center. I might not agree with that decision, but I would be more understanding. But for a older father interferring with the treatment of his grown son.....that is wrong in my eyes. If it was life threatening, it would have been different, but drug abuse needs to be controlled, or it would be life threatening. If you want more answers, may I suggest contacting Scott and asking him, he could give you a first hand opinion. Hope the kids are doing well SF....and give them both a hug for me.
