  1. Me too. In a jar. In the refrigerator. >> <<
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is that the mod UI is a bit awkward and whatever control is used to delete the thread was too close to the edit button or something. That's what happened in my case.
  3. I've done that a couple times when I was a mod on a different board. Don't feel bad.
  4. Saw The Martian over the weekend. I liked it a lot. It was basically "Robinson Crusoe... In Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!" but it was very well done.
  5. Step 1: Label all religious people "extremist" Step 2: Use that label to justify Government surveillance of those groups Step 3: Equate extremism with domestic terrorism Step 4: Begin placing members of these groups on terrorist watch lists, no-fly lists, refuse applications for firearm purchases, etc. Step 5: Propose restrictive laws to limit the rights of said individuals Step 6: Vilify organized religious groups, cancel tax-exempt status, associate with criminal activity Step 7: Relax, and let the media and public outrage do the work for you.
  6. I really like the way you phrased that last part.
  7. I think the reason people don't do that is for many of us, forum posts feel more like a verbal conversation than a chain of correspondence. Since we don't sign off on our sentences when we chat, the same feel applies here.
  8. I like to believe Cruz still has a chance, and he'd be my pick. Otherwise, I vote Libertarian. No way will I cast a vote for Trump.
  9. I find, when that happens to me, it's a good time to take a couple of days off from forum posting. I used to be so grumpy sometimes that I'd start to take it out on my family and that's when I realized what it was. It also helps to think of that Brigham Young quote that used to be my sig: "He who takes offense when no offense is intended is a fool, and he who takes offense when offense is intended is a greater fool." —Brigham Young Not calling you (or anyone here) a fool, of course. Just a good quote to keep in mind.

  13. LOL That's what I got when I googled it too.

  15. What's CFR mean?
  16. I'd gladly take Sanders over Clinton. Cluelessness surrounded by advisors scares me less than intelligent corruption.
  17. That is good advice. I think the problem when it comes to funeral costs is that there's this idea that if you don't blow a huge fortune on a funeral for a loved one then it's because you don't really love them. What you said about leaving a marked memorial makes sense, PC... I just wish it didn't cost a fortune to do it.
  18. I respect that, and it makes sense. I'm a bit jaded when it comes to funeral expenses. An average funeral is between $6,000 and $10,000... The cost of a decent car. They can get away with this because funeral costs are usually covered by insurance or the estate, so the family doesn't have to come out of pocket for it and therefore don't really think about it too hard. Dying is big business.
  19. Awesome! Health benefits means it can't be bad And this one had morphine: Source
  20. My family has been instructed to go the cheapest possible route for disposing of my body once I'm done with it. Then, they're to take the money they saved on not buying a casket, gravesite, headstone, funeral prep, etc. and buy each of my kids a final gift from me. (My wife too.) They have been warned that failure to abide by my wishes will result in my mercilessly haunting them. My daughter joked that they should just have a taxidermist stuff my corpse and keep it in my favorite chair. Then at Christmas they can dress it up as Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny at Easter, etc. So donate my body to science so med students can hack it up or whatever. I don't care. I'll be elsewhere with much more important things to think about.
  21. The problem with studies like that is people read them and conclude that the alcohol itself is the component of the beverages that provides the benefits. This has been shown to be false, per the grape juice comment above. That really makes the rest of the argument moot. If it were the alcohol, then one would expect *any* alcoholic beverage to demonstrate some of the same properties. And even if they DID, what's the point? That we know better than Heavenly Father? Is that the point being made here? And if you don't believe in the Word of Wisdom as a commandment from God, then what's the point arguing it here? Validation? Bragging rights? "I'm such an awesome forum debater that I convinced a few Mormons that drinking wine ain't so bad. Go me!"
  22. Why would I think that? My point is that the study I cited didn't have an agenda to demonize alcohol, so there's little reason to suppose that it's likely to be biased in its findings on that front. As for your link... If Mormons weigh more, then I'd say that's a fantastic reason to avoid drinking alcohol
  23. So what? You asked me to back up my claim, I did. Make of it what you will.
