  1. The thing I like about the Rapture (as much as I can tell from contemporary lit) is that we leave our clothes behind. I like to do that whenever possible.
  2. Just recently I was thinking about this (lots of Mormon conundrums about this (ie If I'm eaten by cannibals and they're resurrected ...) when I saw some old painting about Doubting Thomas pushing his fingers into the wounds of the resurrected Jesus and thinking "Hey; I'm coming back with my scars at least." Got some dandies.
  3. Yard sale or EBay.
  4. I can give you some idea: when I first went to BYU in 1961, I wore a Notre Dame sweat shirt and a beard.
  5. Please go read Seraphim's posting. Don't help these publicity hounds out.
  6. Or as the other exec-producers says: I don't think HBO is going to take boycott threats very seriously. As noted elsewhere in the news, "Mormon numbers also held steady over the period at 1.4 percent of the population" of the US. 98.6 percent of HBO's potential market is NOT Mormon and how many are watching HBO anyway? KSL won't carry something as comparatively mild as Saturday Night Live.
  7. I have trouble taking anyone seriously who says “we researched it out the wazoo." I think most people will see this for the outrageous attempt to increase viewership that it is. From the same pdf: So, do you think the masons are flooding FOX with boycott threats? Same issue if you think about it: revealing secret ceremonies. The more fuss Mormons and the church make about the HBO show, the more they play into the hands of such transparent publicity hounds as Mark Olsen.
  8. I'm going to miss you. Hope to see you back for the next NFL season. Naturally, R.O.
  9. Read it a long, long time ago. Enjoyed it. Of course, I'm a longtime fan of the Odyssey, so that was a factor. I should also say that reading it was a lot of work. In the news: Ulysses is third on the list of books that people lie about having read. Dubliners is on my list of Top Three short story collections by a single author.
  10. We are all horribly myth-informed.
  11. A possibility. But I've seen several posts on this forum from people with family members who have porn addictions. Haven't seen even ONE from someone trying to shut down such a site by paying for it -- which is what the study is based on: credit card sales."Yeah, yeah, home teachers. I was just trying to shut down "Mopsies without Topsies" by giving them 24.95 per month. I was thinking they'd choke on it."
  12. So, do you believe Pew Research (isn't it part of Yale?) or do you believe the church on church membership in Utah? Who has the better records?
  13. Interesting all the denial going on there and in the comments section of the DNews. I'm not surprised at the findings (which are pretty nuanced) when I consider how often porn is a topic at General Conference and on this forum.
  14. This thread makes me sad. I can sympathize with your various situations but as a parenting method this is very sad.
  15. Unafraid to suspend judgment indefinitely.
  16. So instead of attacking us personally, why not lay out your argument? That's what I call intellectual honesty.
  17. Similar story here. Two years at BYU and then into the Navy, where six hours was normal and 2 or 3 sometimes necessary (condition 3 in the Med and an unfortunate watch rotation). You can't afford to not be alert when you have the conn and lose steering with full speed ahead near shoal waters at 2am in the morning. After 4 years of this, back to BYU to finish an MA where I was turned into the Honor System about once a week for drinking Postum (coffee flavored) from a thermos.
  18. When one conservative Republican President bails out the Savings and Loans with government money and runs the debt up 4 trillion and the next conservative Republican President bails out the banks and runs the debt up 6 or 8 trillion, socialism is alive and well -- at least for the rich.
  19. Waited until it wasn't our birthday hoping that this link would take you direct to 17 Feb. No luck. Anyways, it's interesting how many other interesting people share our birthday. Michael Jordan, for instance.
  20. Thank you all. I survived the day and I'm thinking of jumping directly to age 70 instead of staying at 69. More dignity.
  21. What's "scaggling looking"? If you have things hooked up and switched right, then I'd guess you need a better antenna. Other than that, lds.net's favorite answers are: PraySearch the scripturesSearch lds.org for "digital converter".
