... but I think the ultimate source of the questions in this case was MySpace.

I read one, couldn't tell you which or much else about it. I thought it was pretty dull. One thing though: don't all the people taken in the Rapture leave their clothes behind? I don't seem to recall what the books make of this, but I can say that I try to wear my Rapture suit as often and as long as possible. "Clothed in Glory." I don't think "Glory" is some DuPont trademark for some sort of fabric, like Dacron.

I become obsessed with Pumpkin Pie Spice and put it in and on everything. Particularly good in my morning oatmeal. The pumpkin itself I can do without.

I'm in the same boat, not doing anything that different but gaining weight. In my case, it's hibernation (seasonal affective disorder). My metabolism slows down and I have huge cravings for bad carbohydrates. It's usually January or February before I start to get back in control. So, MHW, if you're having the same thing, trying to lose weight before Christmas isn't going to work. Wait until after the winter solstice. Resisting carbs is about the only thing I can do until then. And keeping my daily walk string alive: now 2 years, 12 days without a miss.

My rule is: If you don't vote, you're not allowed to complain about the results.

We have met our worse enemy and it is us (Pogo).
Captain_Curmudgeon replied to Traveler's topic in Current Events
Close but no cigar. What Pogo actually said was: We have met the enemy and he is us. 50 points (or a cigar) to the first one who recalls who Pogo was quoting. -

Seems strange that the same folks who so vociferously reject socialized medicine are pushing socialized banking down our throats. -
It seems to me that very little is even knowable in this universe. I consider this an informed opinion (full minors in Math and Physics) and not just cowardice. It also seems perfectly acceptable to say "I'm undecided and awaiting further evidence" when that's the case instead of taking sides. As for values, I'm heavily influenced by my multi-generational Mormon heritage but my beliefs are different.

Makes Sense to me....Humor only of course.

Don't forget that $425 is what YOU are going to have to pay to the government, sooner or later, to help out Wall Street. Your little bit to help out CEOs making $20,000,000 a year to run the ship on the rocks. Do you make $4,000 an hour? They do. Takes them six minutes or so to earn their $425. How long does it take you to earn your $425? -
Welcome to the site. Wow. Could I get a job teaching there? I'm part Scots.

Only A joke..Things every woman should know
Captain_Curmudgeon replied to a topic in General Discussion
Interesting that the list for men came from Popular Mechanix and was probably written by men and the lists for women here are written by men. I wonder how both lists would look if they were written by women. n. Know the way or know how to ask for directions: don't drive around clueless. n. Know how to operate a toilet seat. -
I've got Ben beat. If you've worked in a garage, been in the armed services and the scouts, and have been a home owner, you get most of these. If you've actually changed a 100 or so tires, jump-started your car for six months (luckily, I was in New England where you can always park on a slope), and put on chains often enough, you know the value of AAA and you stop doing them unless you absolutely have to.
-
No, but Moses claims that the Lord carved the words with His own hand. That's pretty direct.
-
So how come no one else wants to buy them? Did you buy some, Ben?You'd think the oil companies would swoop right in, given the huge profits they have sitting around. Make 8 to 10 percent? If they're such a great investment, why do taxpayers have to buy them?

Only drank enough to find out the difference between black Irish and Irish? There was a TV series about a Black Irish crime family and I don't recall that it had to do with their drink preferences.

What did you LOVE to get in your Trick or Treat bag as a kid? Genuine Candy Bars (which cost a whole nickel back then). What did you HATE to get in your T'o'T bag as a kid? Apples, since most of them were wormy and came off of the trees in the orchard. What are you planning to give out to T'o'T'ers this Halloween? Toothbrushes and a lecture on dental hygiene. Actually, no kids come to my door on Halloween. Too scary. Speaking of costumes, the only H'ween parties I've been to lately are Utah Naturist parties. You can do a lot more when you're a nudist. One year I wore a little apron made up of bubble wrap and went as "A Nudist on Television."

Gotta ask: what's the difference between Black Irish and just Irish?

The whole thing brings many things to mind: The church and BYU are always getting bashed in various places. Check out the comments on the on-line SLC Tribune site. Most of it is pretty mindless. It was a PAC-10 ref and he called the penalty on the PAC-10 player and he called it immediately. If he hadn't called it and Washington had made the kick and won in OT, imagine what all the BYU fans would be saying about the non-call. IMHO the ref is to be congratulated on making the hard, but correct, call.If you wanted to see really bad home-cooked calls, you should have caught Weber State at HI.IMHO there's way too much showboating and trash-talking and general bad sportsmanship running around loose these days and it's being admired and imitated rather than called out for what it is: attempted bullying. Worse in pro sports than in college, but you expect that: it's been shown that organized sports are a great destroyer of character in the participants (not to mention the coaches and supporters). I was watching one college game Saturday where the announcers remarked that one of the teams had a strict rule. At the end of a play, you hand the ball to a ref and go back to the huddle. Don't, and you back to the bench. There was some coach (my memory for details isn't working well today) who said of being in the end zone with the ball: "Try to act like you've been there before."

What is a DC?

So, did you watch the game? Did you break the pipe on purpose? If the pipe's breaking was an act of God (ask your insurance company), what does that tell us?

Panel Discussion "Massacre at Mountain Meadows"
Captain_Curmudgeon replied to Elphaba's topic in Church History
Missed it. I'm having my usual SAD attack and I'm losing (and hibernating as a consequence). DNews article: Deseret News | Massacre book garners praise and criticism "For those who missed the discussion, KCPW radio will have a podcast of it available starting Monday at www.kcpw.org." (I'll be back with the link Monday.) -
2 16 oz cans tomatoes, cut up. (Cans are now down to 14.5 oz. I get diced.) 1 15 1/2 oz can red kidney beans. (Now 15 oz) 1 15 1/2 oz can garbanzo beans. 1 15 1/2 oz can great northern beans. (I substitute black beans.) 1/2 cup water. 3 medium onions, chopped. (I use 5 onions ...) 2 medium green peppers, chopped. (...and leave these out because I can't eat them.) 2 stalks celery, sliced. (I double this ... ) 1 medium zuchinni, halved lengthwise and sliced. (... and this.) 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 teaspoons chili powder. (I use 3 and add 1 t cumin.) 1 1/2 t dried basil, crushed. 1/4 t pepper. (I use a little more and add red pepper flakes.) 1 bay leaf. 4-quart pot. Add UNDRAINED tomatoes and beans, and everything else except the zuchinni. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for about an hour, until the vegetables are tender. Add the zuchinni and cook until it's tender (hour will turn it to mush). I start with the onions and the half cup of water and cook them at very low heat until they're about tender. They need more cooking (to my taste) than the other veggies. No fat in this, so I eat it hot and cold. Less healthy but more hearty is to put sliced hot dogs in it, either by the pot or by the bowl.

Congratulations! Well, you'll look like him if you get to 90.Kid should have waited 3 minutes and then he would have born at 8:08 and weighed the same, 8lbs 8oz. (My mom told me that I weighed 8lbs 10oz and was born at 10:08. Allows me to celebrate my birth-minute.)
