And if you're not peckish, you can show your inner charity by, instead of flushing, leaving it in the bowl for the next person to feast on. Extra helpings :)

Although the "not so nice" versions of the rhyme are not actually the originals, those too supposedly are another version of much more innocent original - it's a shame one variation had to put such a negative connotation on all the variants. Incidently, I grew up with this version:

As in, a direct connection between your iphone and your computer/network without having to go through any third party servers? You can already do this via multiple methods, although the purpose of the third party server in most instances is to prevent the user having to configure their firewalls, as that can add complexity into the equation. All you need to use though is the VPN software that is built into the iphone (this will essentially connect you to your home network like you were on wifi), and a free VNC application (this is what you'd use to get the remote desktop interface - loads on the app store). The potentially complex part is setting up your home network/computer to accept and recognize the incoming VPN packets (hence why most people usually use third party servers). If you have a router, it may already have the software installed for you to configure, or you may have to put a solution in yourself. Either way, no iphone app can do the configuration of your home network for you, and every network is different, so it's hard to automate the process in any way.

BYU Dancer Counciled For Showing Too Much Skin On SYTYCD!

I don't know about that either. Did you see the protesters outside the Preston temple during its dedication in 1998? The scenes were fairly similar, and no officials attempted to stop them. -

I don't agree with this. Faith schools in the UK have a certain amount of freedom, and especially ones that are funded entirely by themselves. They aren't bound by a lot of the rules that state funded schools are, including the rules regarding having to provision 25% of their places to students that are not members of the targeted faith. I think these schools could get away with enforcing almost any rule they wanted providing the standard of education remained within acceptable levels. -
It's probably also worth pointing out that if you do bump an old thread, it's polite just to point out that it's an old thread and give a reason why you are bringing it back up from its grave as opposed to starting a new thread. That way the moderators have a little more to think about before deciding whether or not to lock a thread, and any subsequent posters have been given warning that it is an old thread.
-
A large part of the issue is that subsequent posters rarely check the date of the OPs original post, and reply to the thread under the assumption that it was created recently, forgetting that just because a thread appears near the top, it doesn't mean it's a new one. Posts made in 2007 were created with information the poster had at the time. Four years later, a lot has changed in the world and the posts might not make as much sense as they did in 2007, even little details that don't necessarily pertain to the primary subject of the thread. This can cause some confusion, and often it's better to close a thread and start a new one.

The best thing about computer languages as opposed to spoken languages, is that they can only mean one thing. You can only interpret it in one way. No taking into account tone of voice or body language. Makes life so much easier, especially for us autistic people. Does anyone wonder why autism and computers go so well together?

Haven't touched web design since 2007, so I'm a little out of touch (okay, a lot actually) but I don't think it's possible for you to achieve what you want to do via HTML alone. HTML is merely a markup language, that means it's only purpose it to set the layout of the webpage. It's not a programming language or scripting language. You'll most likely need a server side scripting language like PHP to do what you want (your server needs to have it installed). You could also do it with cookies (pam not included) if you wanted to avoid server side languages, though this might take a lot more code to get it working properly. You have used javascript as well, though if I remember correctly, variables in javascript get wiped after a page reload, as javascript is a local scripting language only.

After finding out someone locked my own cat in a room for several hours and having to clean up the output of said cat, this video doesn't look quite as cute as it did a couple of days back.

In ten years I'll look back and laugh. (Or not.)
Mahone replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
Vort, I think I might have stayed where I was until I saw someone go past and get them to go to reception A few years back, I did some work at the preston temple in the accommodation centre. Everything had just calmed down from the morning rush, when a large middle aged man walked calmly up to the reception desk in nothing but his temple garments - in full view of everyone. It turns out that he had tried to discreetly leave his room and pop into the stock room next door to his in order to get some toilet roll. Only he had managed to lock himself out of his room in the process. The only place he could get a master key was obviously reception, where the most people were congregated. The most amusing part of it was how calm and unfazed he was about it, regardless of people gawping at him. Being as tall as he was, he stood out prior to being semi-naked in public. It was much akin to arnold schwarzenegger walking into the bar naked at the start of terminator 3. -
Bear in mind that, unlike windows, OSX has never been designed to run on much hardware other than what apple themselves sell and officially support (not all that much). While many people have claimed to get it working, I can imagine you may get some very weird issues, even if not straight away. It's not something I personally would want to do other than for testing purposes only and a bit of fun. I'd never consider it being something to rely on. And after you get it working, don't update the OS either, as chances are it'll break something. Also bear in mind that it's very much against the terms and conditions, if that bothers you, although not illegal. If you still want to do it, there are loads of guides out there if you use google, although for potential legal issues I won't link to any here (apple are quite protective of their OS). I cannot vouch for their accuracy though, as I've never tried it and every time apple releases a new version of OSX, they won't be taking into account all the guides online that explain how to hack it, and therefore the guide will most likely no longer be applicable. With my work on OSX over the last couple of years, I've noticed one thing in common with most the problems I have - third party hardware or software. Even if said hardware/software is officially supported, such as integration with a windows domain, you can expect issues and lots of them. If you use 100% apple purchased hardware/software, problems will be minimal. Admittedly integration with a windows domain is no small project, but then neither is installing OSX on hardware that it wasn't designed to run on. So if you have lots of time to iron them out, and your hair is already grey, go for it. Let us know how you get on :)

Can a bishop as a lawyer represent a sexual harassment offender?
Mahone replied to bcoyer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Look, I am not the judge either. I am not here to decide whether this person is guilty or not guilty. I am merely pointing out the flaws in your argument. The brain is more complex than either you or I understand - and the brain also controls what a person says and what a person does. This is why I'd leave those kind of decisions to the psychiatrists, who understand far more than I do, and the courtroom, and not assume guilt. There is a reason why defense attorneys exist, and this is it. Assumptions are incredibly dangerous is a courtroom. -

Unfortunately, unless you are the judge, that is not for you to personally decide. Mental illness very often cannot be seen with the naked eye, or noticed even when spending a long time with a person. There could be thousands of reasons why this person did what they did - sometimes only an expert would be able to tell, and even then, when it comes to mental illness, you can never know for sure. Thankfully, I'd hope that no-one in a court room is quite as quick to make assumptions. -

Mahone replied to bcoyer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I've learnt over time that making assumptions doesn't get us anywhere. What if someone was mentally ill, and did not understand fully what they were doing? That's just one of the many, many grey areas you just denied existed. I'm no legal expert, but I do know that these are taken into consideration during a trial. -

Why not? Strictly speaking, the courts are there to determine guilt, and if so, level of guilt and therefore sentence. Not everyone that goes into the dock is guilty, and not everyone that is guilty shares the same level of guilt. Defense attorneys are there to try help the client prove either innocence or try and prove that they deserve a lesser sentence for whatever reason - there is nothing immoral about what they do in general, they are a vital part of the criminal justice system. -
This is true, but (whether we like it or not) they are slowly encroaching on corporate networks. You can look at almost any reasonably large network now and find a mac (or several macs) connected somewhere, at least in my experience. Having said that, apple seem incredibly disinterested in making any friends in the corporate sector. We have an xserve at work, I had a bit of a dilemma earlier this year because we needed a second osx server, yet apple no longer run the xserve line and there is no replacement, other than a mac pro (or mac mini) server. How to rack mount the xserver: (there are about 28 there) How to rack mount the mac pro: What a stupid amount of space wasted... And using the mac mini as a server looks silly next to all the other servers. So yeah, macs are infiltrating on corporate networks, though apple seem happy for this not to continue, preferring to focus on the domestic user, perhaps because they are more gullible and willing to spend thousands on a machine that isn't any better than an equivalent PC? Maybe the corporate users didn't so easily take in their twoddle about their equipment not being at fault in any way, like with the mac defender software mentioned earlier: Apple to support reps: Don't confirm Mac infections ?
