  1. If I ran that store, I'd ensure one of the "dips" further into the store was physically a dip, so people really would trip but not be expecting it
  2. I have to agree with everything said above... I also work in IT, except I work in networking as opposed to programming. Your husband should do whatever his direct line manager has asked him to do, and if his line manager disagrees, get them together and let them decide among themselves what it is that he should be prioritising. Voice his opinion, but accept their decision. Where possible, he should get everything in writing - I can never stress the importance of this enough. Get it in writing (e-mail is good), and keep all correspondence. That way, if/when everything starts to go wrong because they didn't follow your husbands advice, he has his back covered.
  3. What about those same men under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol? What about men raping men?
  4. Supposedly Antoine Lavoisier, although I'm struggling to find any reliable sources for that. Odd how I find such a subject interesting - guess it must be a morbid curiosity
  5. This is debatable.... there is an argument that the head can remain conscious for up to 8 (the exact number is obviously subjective) seconds after being severed from the body.
  6. The best christmas present I got was a coat from my wife, as the only decent one I had left was the trench coat I use for work. I also got to skype with my brother, who is on a mission, which made a nice change from the usual e-mails. I bought my BIL a fairly pricy remote control helicopter, although I was debating with myself in store how long it'd last for - touch wood, it's still working :)
  7. Happy birthday pam :)
  8. It will be temporary, at least initially. The reason that there is only one company in the US that produced sodium thiopental is because it is almost solely used in executions - there isn't much market for it. That company has now stopped making the drug, because of of a shortage of raw materials on US soil used to make it. They have also made an official statement saying they oppose the usage of their products in such a way. The entire European Union is well on it's way to stopping exports of any drug the US uses primarily for this purpose. They are also now struggling to get the drugs from India due to public pressure. While I'm pretty sure, like any other government, the US are able to find other methods to create the physical means to do what they want, they won't be able to ignore the mounting outside pressure against them. What they'll do to respond to that pressure remains to be seen, but it's worth bearing in mind that globally, capital punishment is slowly diminishing, as is public support globally. Something will have to give eventually, I'm just not sure when that will happen or what it'll be.
  9. BBC News - EU imposes strict controls on 'execution drug' exports This has and may continue to slow down the rate of executions in the US and potentially other countries.
  10. Breaking the law is not the same thing as immoral behaviour - while the church would support sustaining and obeying the law of the land where possible, I'm sure most people realise that laws vary across the world and they aren't always fair or moral. I can fully understand why someone would still be allowed to obtain a temple recommend while being present in a country illegally. If I had to illegally work in a country in order to feed my starving family - even if it did nothing good to the economy of the country I was working in - my priority at that moment would be my family. Thank goodness this has never been a choice I have had to make, or situation I have ever been in. As the general membership of this forum are from first world countries, I'd be willing to bet most people on this board have never had to make similar choices either.
  11. I meant never left the USA prior to meeting me. Shannon only got her first passport this year. It's a big move, living in a different country, but especially more so when you've never been abroad anywhere before with the exception of a couple of times within the year prior to moving. And now she'll get to see (and live in) not only England but we may as well travel across Europe while we're here :)
  12. Thanks everyone :) I haven't been on here at all until now since before the wedding, what with dealing with the aftermath of getting married 5000 miles away, and then helping my wife become accustomed to living in the UK starting from the day after the wedding - something that's not exactly easy to adjust to immediately as she had previously never left the USA before. I think she has coped fantastically with everything she has had to deal with in recent months. I couldn't bring myself to wear a tux unfortunately, I was a lot more comfortable in a suit as I wear one 6 days a week anyway... Lessons learnt: - If you take your attention away from your feet for even a second, you'll step on the dress... several times in my case, resulting in this piercing stare all married men know so well - Smarties in the UK are NOT the same thing as smarties in the USA. I'll bear this in mind time I'm asked for my opinion on items for a "candy table", hopefully not resulting in enormous bags of the wrong item being purchased.
  13. Lol, with your luck, you'll get stuck behind the one person who actually does own the store
  14. Yeah, I've seen those. I think it was target and/or publix that had half an isle dedicated to UK specific items. -Real- cadburys chocolate too
  15. Glad im not the only one who thought this
  16. Our department at work has just completed the most work intensive few months in the departments history, and we lived off these things. Nothing like big macs at 3am, then another big mac at 10am, and then a third big mac at 3pm, and so on and so forth. Not healthy, but at the time we were beyond caring
  17. How will I survive
  18. Yes, I remember the fiasco last year when the iphone clock changed an hour forward as appropriate, but the alarm seemed to not realise this and went off an hour later than the due time. Half the country had an hours lie in as a result (including me).
  19. I don't usually have ice in my drinks. But then, it's not often hot enough here to merit it. My fiancee on the other hand... I don't think she'll have soda without it
  20. Because he is German, Germany being a primary enemy of ours during world war 2, which is a large part of why we wear poppies across the nation at this time of year. It was a little awkward to explain this.

  22. True story that happened last week: We've had a German guy working with us temporarily for the past couple of weeks. He is a work experience student and this is the first time he has been to England. While showing him various systems, he asked "what is this red flower you're all wearing on your jackets"? *awkward silence*
  23. My grandmother, about 6 years ago, tried to set up multiple companies abroad in West Africa, before eventually abandoning the project due to the corruption of locals and the government. One of the companies was supposed to be renting holiday villas out to tourists, and the primary villa was already build before the project was abandoned. Obviously locals were employed to build the villa, although the design was to English/Western world standards, as they were the intended customer base. The problem was, none of the locals were really familiar with a lot of the concepts of these standards. For instance, when the shower was built, they then placed the toilet on top of the shower base and plumbed it in, so anyone taking a shower would have to sit on the toilet. We have a picture of it somewhere, I'll post it if I can find it. Obviously they were instructed to remove it...
  24. But not cancer
  25. It's been a family tradition for the last 30 years to have shloer with our christmas, boxing day and new years dinners. The same would apply to thanks giving if we celebrated it.
