  1. Mosiah 4:26 "And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you—that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may awalk guiltless before God—I would that ye should bimpart of your substance to the cpoor, every man according to that which he hath, such as dfeeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants." Moisah 18:29 "And this he said unto them, having been commanded of God; and they did awalk uprightly before God, imparting to one another both temporally and spiritually according to their needs and their wants." Alma 35:9 "And he breathed out many threatenings against them. And now the people of Ammon did not fear their words; therefore they did not cast them out, but they did receive all the poor of the Zoramites that came over unto them; and they did anourish them, and did clothe them, and did give unto them lands for their inheritance; and they did administer unto them according to their wants." As I have read through the Book of Mormon again, this is the first time I really noticed the word "want" in these verses, and it really stuck out at me. It is good that we go about serving others... helping them to eat, getting them clothes, perhaps even giving them shelter. But the Lord has asked us to go even further, and bless people according to their wants also, This does not mean helping them to sin, but blessing their lives just a little extra beyond what is necessary. How many times does God go beyond our needs and bless us with things which we desire but are not needful things? Very often. The Lord delights in blessing his people. Let us take delight in blessing those around us in unexpected and generous ways.
  2. I know! I almost burst out laughing when I read that, but I didn't want to frighten the neighbors. Maybe it was... *Rescinding the Mexico City Policy and making our tax dollars pay for abortions around the world.? *Lifting the ban on federal funding of Embryonic Stem Cell research and making our tax payer dollars go towards creating and destroying a human life? *Rescinding the Conscience Clause and forcing medical professionals to perform/assist in abortions or face losing their jobs? Yeah, he's a real uniter that one.
  3. Ah, but you didn't read my post close enough... I said specifically "for THE episode". As I wrote it I thought about how I had to word it to not leave the impression the I believed they gained viewers for the show. It's very important to carefully read one another's posts.
  4. Yes, Jesus Christ died for ALL of us. Now, whether WE accept His sacrifice and view Him as Savior and follow His commandments is a different story.
  5. I find it ironic that there is such a LDS outcry against this, yet we have seen they gained at least 2 new viewers for the episode... viewers that happen to be outraged LDS. HBO should send the LDS members a "Thank You" note.
  6. I'm not LDS and I believe the scriptures are vague enough that for anyone to claim they know the nature of God and declare all others heretics for believing otherwise is pure folly. These debates are pointless endeavors that waste space and are unnecessary tangents that only cause contention.
  7. I'll give it a shot. When do we start? Edit: Oh, Monday. Ok
  8. I wish all discussion on the Godhead/Trinity would just go away. How many times can the same things be said over and over again?
  9. We were "made sinners" because through the fall we were able to be born into mortality and have freedom to choose whether to follow God or to follow the evil one. But "original sin", the concept that we are judged and condemned according to Adam's actions, is false doctrine and denies the justice and mercy of God and sets aside the agency we have been given as individuals to "work out <our> own salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord."
  10. Nothing beats free advertising in these "tough economic times".
  11. Amazon.com: The Cedar Post: Jack R. Rose: Books
  12. That's why I like Mark Driscoll (Mars Hill Church, Seattle, Wa.), he doesn't teach prosperity gospel but he does, as he puts it, put the " 'fun' in fundamentalist ". You don't have to be boring and stiff to be a conservative Christian.
  13. Perhaps two legends intermingle and one is our Lord Jesus christ and the other perhaps John the Beloved?
  14. I have read it, and it is excellent.
  15. His posts are perverse and meant to offend.
  16. I would also point out that Europe is not the Promised Land. The standards the Lord expects from the people are much stricter here.
  17. Can he prove turtles really exist is the question.
  18. Apparently, our guest is unaware of ceremonial cleansing mikvahs in the OT, a practiced still honored by Orthodox Jews. When Christ came, baptism in His name become the one and only mikvah we need... "one faith, one baptism". I like turtles.
  19. In 3rd Nephi the Lord Jesus Christ explains what will happen in this nation if the Book of Mormon is rejected and wickedness is allowed to flourish. But that will set off the "Work of the Father", which will be the greatest time in history. Wonderful and terrible times are ahead!
  20. As others have said, you are playing right into their hands. I predict this "Big Love" episode will probably be their highest rated one, and you want to know why... Because you (LDS) started talking about it and making a big stink. Now people who normally would not watch the show are going to say to themselves, "Hmmm... I wonder what the Mormons don't want us to see." and watch it. You couldn't have started a better advertising campaign for the show, and to think you did it all gratis (for free).
