  1. Man sentenced for threat on LDS temple The Salt Lake Tribune Updated: 06/23/2009 02:51:08 PM MDT A Utah man was sentenced Monday to 36 months on probation for weapons violations in connection to a threat to kill people and fight his way into the LDS temple in South Jordan. Authorities said Benjamin Speakman went to Valley Mental Health in Midvale on Feb. 2 and stated he had weapons and planned to kill himself and others. When officers arrived, Speakman allegedly told them he planned to shoot anyone at the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and get into the Celestial Room. Speakman on April 13 admitted he cut down the barrel of a 12-gauge shotgun that was not registered to him. He agreed to relinquish the shotgun along with a 9 mm Glock handgun and an AK-47. Erin Alberty After I read this I thought about "Does this mean that we are not safe even in the Temple?" I understand that it does not say why this man was wanting to do this. Does make me wonder though.
  2. right now i am just trying to find it..i remember we did this at a stake conference but that was a little while ago..i know i shoulda signed up when i was in ohio!!!! lol
  3. Another person that is doing this is the backyardprofessor on youtube. He did a series about the book of mormon and the metalurgy of the ancients. If you go to groups and the BoM Archeology there is a forum there that has the first in the series. He used books from NON Lds scholars that have said the same thing about this subject. it is all together about an hour or so. It is amazing to say the least. Another thing of note is the descovery of actual Barley discoverd here in America. This is also being done by a fellow at Berkley. here is the link for the BoM Archy stuff if anyone wants to join let me know! Groups ยป LDS Mormon Network
  4. ok...ok..pooks made me do this.... You can tell your on lds.net too much if on your honeymoon you just gotta check the forums and see what is going on!!!!
  5. As someone who also read the series (ok..i am a guy) I like them..they had cool cars and stuff jk..they were well written but not something to give to some one under 16 imho. Pooks liked em but thought Bella "was a bit whiney" lol. She isnt on the Band wagon of Team Jake or Team Eddie.... I will say this..these where not as dark as Harry was. If my kids talked back to athority like he did..wizard or not he would get his tookis popped for it and a nice little talk about respecting his elders. ok..done with rant
  6. As I was Reading this I couldnt help to think of when my poor Dad had to take something to the effect. Dad equated the stuff that he was on like going from a sitting stop to Mach 9 to the "Library". all I could think of is dad yelling...MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!!!!! Ahhh...not so fun times.
  7. Debs, I just moved to Utah from Ohio. The area that i was raised in had very few LDS members. It wasnt untill after I moved out of state for about 13 years and moved back that I found that there was a chaple built. I was like wow!!! As for the getting lost no worries...I get lost all the times. I am used to streets having names...not numbers. Honor says its easy to figure out but i just dont get it.
  8. Debs, The thing about meeting houses here in Utah is that you might have 4 wards in the same building. It took me awhile to get used to it. Most start at 9am 11am or 1pm. We also have a spanish branch within ours so it kinda gets a bit confsing with time changes and such here. But it is pretty easy when you find out where you will be moving. Just have you friend help ya with the Chuch locator stuff. I am in a very small town in Utah and there are like 10 wards here. :) kinda took me awhile to adjust. the place i moved from only had 2 and that took up most of the county.
  9. Debs, I noticed that most everyone has pretty much answered alot of your questions except for one. When you find the area that you are going to be living in and have an addres you can look online at this website LDS Maps after you enter you adress and such it will give you a list of wards in your area. Also it will list the assigned ward. The assigned ward means that you live within those particular ward boundries. When I did that when I moved I was lucky enough that my Bishops phone number was there and could call about meeting times. WORD OF WARNING some of the times are a bit off :) I found that out when I called and asked about the meeting times. Good luck with everything and let me know if we can be of any help.
  10. All I am going to say is this...Dude and Dudettes..Here is your sign..along with that..Most of these people will more than likely be up for a Dawin Award in the near future...lol..

  13. The Nodding Bishop During sacrement meeting the Bishop (an elderly man of Southern Baptist Heritige) was listening to the talk given by the Stake Pres. His counselor noticed that the bishop was sleeping and the Stake pres was getting ready to turn around and look at him. The counsular nudged his bishop in the ribs using his elbow. Startled the bishops head lifted up and his eyes sprang open to see the crowd and shouted..AMEN BROTHER!!!!!! After turning red the bishop appologizes and says sheepeshly.."Sorry..Baptist moment" The Little Climber During F&T a few months back a little boy wanted to bear his testimony. He grabbed his Daddys hand and walked down the aisle. after he was done he looked at his dad and says..your turns daddy..so the father starts to bear his testimony. While doing so he notices his son is not by his side. Instead the congregation is trying to keep a straight face as this Brother is being moved by the spirit. Out of the corner of his eye he notices little Junior using the rail as a jungle gym. He finishes and promtly takes his son outside..where he exlames to a question from his litle boy...Cause there are 'NO WITNESS'!!!"
  14. The young so and so kids didnt lap hop today. I wonder if they are ill!?! This actually happened in my old ward. As I would sit in the back due to health reasons one little girl would look at me and smile and just get up and sit in my lap. And I wasnt alone. Apperently she had her Fave Sisters and Brothers that she liked to visit. She would come up and crawl into your lap and give you a big hug and a smile. then move to the next inbetween talks or hymns. when she didnt do this we would ask her mom if she was feeling alright. She was a great little girl....untill...fast and testamony meeting...lol
  15. that one gets a...AWWWWWWW that was cute and a chuckle! good one CM!
  16. A young Sister was at wits end. Her calling was only supposed to be for 6 months. After 5 years the Bishop called her into his office one Sunday. He had just heard from the young ladys husband and he was distraught. "Sister. Is all well at home?" She replied yes bishop. everything is fine. why do you ask? "Well" bishop said." your husband came to see me this morning and we had a nice long talk and he is very worried about you." "Oh my!" replied the sister" what have I done?" The bishop looks at her kindly and says "Well sister he said you have been having bad dreams at night and wil not tell him about them. Are they nightmares? " "Its about my um....6 month calling bishop. I have been in the primary for almost 6years! I just cant take it anymore sir! I WANT PAROLED!!!" The bishop looked down and thought for a second..."Sister, you mean released correct?" "No Bishop...I mean Paroled! After serving over 5 years it feels like a prison sentance! Have you EVER had to deal with ALL of the Smith kids? no? howabout the Youngs? My gracious sir its aweful!!! Please grant me a parole for good behavior!! Honest! I havnt killed any of them yet!!!" During sacrament the bishop conducts some ward business and asks the congregation..."All in favor of Paroling Sister from Primary......"

  20. very interesting artical. The question that is stuck in the back of my brain is this: Where is the provedence located for this object? If it is truely an Archeological find then there should be a record of it somewhere. Finding that and the archeologist that did find it should bring some questions to light on this subect. While it is true that we do need to be careful about such finds there are exciting find that are being found yet today. Also it is interesting to point out that after reading the misson statement of this magazine they tend to delve into alot of the unusual finds. Case in point...the 4 Hebrew Brothers. Very interesting. Thanks for bringing this up Therauh, Sorry..Amature Archy who reads WAY too much!!!!
