  1. Sometimes the motivation and intent is just as important as the action and/or outcome. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. If Donald Trump witnessed the atonement his opinion would probably be that Jesus littered and polluted a garden with blood and dishonorably allowed himself to be captured by the enemy and died like woman crying out while being tortured. The John Chapman book is worth the read or audiobook listen. He was an Air Force Combat Controller embedded within a Navy Seal team. The Navy tried to prevent him from getting the medal of honor. Likely because they mistakenly abandoned an injured not dead comrade in the field. Hacksaw Ridge was a pretty good flick about a conscience objector’s efforts as a combat medic in WWII - also a medal of Honor Recipient. See below https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss I also appreciated this piece about a Hungarian Jew receiving the Medal of Honor.
  2. The point wasn’t about respecting veterans. It was about flippantly disrespecting a Medal of Honor recipient. Which I find detestable. Especially from a prior Commander in Chief. The following video is the first recorded action of a medal of honor recipient. The footage took place in Afghanistan 2002. This is his story. I have performed countless hours of pro bono work as a surgeon performing debridement of IV drug abuser abscesses and amputations from diabetic gangrenous wounds, etc. I would never compare my civilian efforts to those of John Chapman’s.
  3. This concept has made the USA a superpower. We won the space race (the only men on the moon have been Americans). Because our spacecraft were designed to bring our astronauts home. Russian spacecraft were designed for the honor of the state. Japan had Kamikazes. Suicide bombers. Americans can’t even imagine this kind of activity. We spend $$ on armor and tech to keep our soldiers safe and well informed. We designed smart bombs that allow us to take out military objectives with the minimum amount of collateral damage. We have drones that allow us to inflict damage on our enemies without any possibility of physical danger to the operator. Our systems are built with double and triple redundancies. For life support. China seems to have quantity without quality. Russia is being embarrassed by Ukraine. Israel who also believes in the sanctity of life in 1967 destroyed Jordan, Egypt, and Syria in a six-day war. The only thing that scares me are these new hypersonic weapons that appear to be very difficult to defend. And the fact that our country uses the term pro-choice to justify aborting human babies in utero.
  4. I have already been watching pre-season pro games and youtube scrimmage / practice highlights of BYU. I am so ready for fall. This summer the heat and fires were brutal. Bring it on!
  5. Boyd K. Packer In 1992, having served nine years as an Assistant to the Twelve and 22 years as a member of the Twelve, I reached the age of 68. I felt impressed to start what I called an “Unfinished Composition.” The first part of that work goes like this: I had a thought the other night, A thought profound and deep. It came when I was too worn down, Too tired to go to sleep. I’d had a very busy day And pondered on my fate. The thought was this: When I was young, I wasn’t 68! I could walk without a limp; I had no shoulder pain. I could read a line through twice And quote it back again. I could work for endless hours And hardly stop to breathe. And things that now I cannot do I mastered then with ease. If I could now turn back the years, If that were mine to choose, I would not barter age for youth, I’d have too much to lose. I am quite content to move ahead, To yield my youth, however grand. The thing I’d lose if I went back Is what I understand. Ten years later, I decided to add a few more lines to that poem: Ten years have flown to who knows where And with them much of pain. A metal hip erased my limp; I walk quite straight again. Another plate holds neck bones fast— A wonderful creation! It backed my polio away; I’ve joined the stiff-necked generation. The signs of aging can be seen. Those things will not get better. The only thing that grows in strength With me is my forgetter. You ask, “Do I remember you?” Of course, you’re much the same. Now don’t go getting all upset If I can’t recall your name. I would agree I’ve learned some things I did not want to know, But age has brought those precious truths That make the spirit grow. Of all the blessings that have come, The best thing in my life Is the companionship and comfort I get from my dear wife. Our children all have married well, With families of their own, With children and grandchildren, How soon they all have grown. I have not changed my mind one bit About regaining youth. We’re meant to age, for with it Comes a knowledge of the truth. You ask, “What will the future bring? Just what will be my fate?” I’ll go along and not complain. Ask when I’m 88! And last year I added these lines: And now you see I’m 88. The years have flown so fast. I walked, I limped, I held a cane, And now I ride at last. I take a nap now and again, But priesthood power remains. For all the physical things I lack There are great spiritual gains. I have traveled the world a million miles And another million too. And with the help of satellites, My journeys are not through. I now can say with all certainty That I know and love the Lord. I can testify with them of old As I preach His holy word. I know what He felt in Gethsemane Is too much to comprehend. I know He did it all for us; We have no greater Friend. I know that He will come anew With power and in glory. I know I will see Him once again At the end of my life’s story. I’ll kneel before His wounded feet; I’ll feel His Spirit glow. My whispering, quivering voice will say, “My Lord, my God, I know.”
  6. Yeah, you just take other meds to compensate for the side effects. And it starts with just a single cycle. Then you see the results. Girls notice you more. The team respects you more. You feel indestructible. I just hit 55 years old. I miss the strength, balance, and agility of my youth. I never had to consider dieting back in the day. I just had to fuel the ☢️ furnace. The wisdom and knowledge of experience are nice though. The resurrection will likely be a blast. D&C 138:50 For the dead had looked upon the long absence of their spirits from their bodies as a bondage. I can sympathize.
  7. Yes, I saw it in track and field. Now add in the $, and the schools that 'deserve' a winning or championship team. Steroids not only make you stronger, but they also speed up recovery. They allow you to work out harder, and longer. This enables you to be stronger, healthier, aggressive, and improve your technique. Remember the Harvard 2012 cheating scandal? Don't get me wrong. Many are clean. I was. But when you see an average competitor show up after the summer vacation with 10# of muscle on them and run the 100m 0.2 seconds faster and throw the shot another 3 feet further you start wondering. Want to get off the scrub team, earn a full ride, and not have to work through school?
  8. It’s a crazy jump. I mean, lets face the truth. College football is semi-pro. Kids are getting paid good money now. Most of the football players are taking inconsequential course loads and focusing all on football. Then your HS fast guy ran a 4.6 thats slow in D1. And the hits, my gosh! Guys that weight 235 are running 4.5 40s. Thats a crap ton of momentum. And they know how to punish. Many are on steroids… Its no joke.

    War

8 day visit turns into 8 months? Really?! This is worse than Gilligan’s Island.

    War

Thank goodness. If it was the norm, our country would have already self destructed.

    War

Not the feeling I am getting. Putin is losing a war with a small country that doesn’t even have a navy. Ukraine’s actions will continue to undermine Russian’s support of Putin. And Russia does not want a war with NATO. The middle east will never have peace. I fully support Israel. If you came into my house and kidnapped, rapped, tortured and kept hostage my children… There is no length that I would go to retrieve my family and reign vengeance and destruction upon you and all that support you. “**** around and find out.” Iran has found itself in a tricky position. There is alot of bluster but they havent done anything in 2 weeks, and probably wont do anything for another 2 weeks. Their final response will probably be as lame as the last. They also know that their own Iranian guard has been compromised. They are afraid of Israel let alone the USA. China doesn’t need to fight the USA. All they need to do is to continue giving their population more freedom. Continue science, education, industry, and they will become a great nation. USA’s stagnation is what worries me. Boeing’s shoddy work. Uvalde’s police department. Elon Musk producing a better space exploration product than NASA.
  14. Jesus opened up spirit prison for missionary work. Set apart a mission president and called missionaries. The work continues
  15. BYU's Kenneth Rooks takes 2nd in Steeplechase! https://youtu.be/C-RRLSJsOl0?si=Epz75JJhND6c_6dd You need to watch the last lap. Everyone in the race was thinking "who the **** does he think he is?" Congratulations!
  16. After the 6.10 clearance he did the Turkish sharpshooter pose. Nice!
  17. The twin and I were very active. We rode our bikes past the Jr High and saw some vaulters. We knew immediately we had to do it. Dad ran track when he was in school and supported us. I went to state 3 years in a row in Texas HS and got to go to university on a full ride. Converted to the Decathlon in College. Fun times.
  18. Its one of the main reasons why I got into orthopedics. My twin had a nasty open tibia fracture our HS senior year. During my interview process one of the attending surgeons always asked everybody the same question. Did you wear spikes? If you didn’t, or even worse did not understand the question it, was an immediate fail. Of course, I wore spikes. I have the scars to prove it.
  19. Dude yes! Mondo jumped 5’ higher than me though…
