  1. All but one of my five children woke up often at night when they were little. My favorite was when I let my youngest cry for a little while, and then she quieted down. I heard her babbling a while later, so I sneaked in to check on her. She had had a "poo poo diapy", and decided to decorate the crib and wall with it when I didn't jump up and change her. This was an intricately carved wooden crib with lots of little nooks and crannies. It was the longest night of my life! (sorry I can't give better advice--I just think you are a heck of a nice guy to get up in the middle of the night with him--my husband never did!) Luckily it was your youngest! I think we get much more relaxed (or tired) as we add to our families. So Curvette, did that episode keep you tensed up when she would fuss at night?
  2. Again the prophetic Snow speaks the truth: http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satel...d=1031780390895 http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainme...rl-calmoviestop Did you see it Snow? Ya, I read the reviews you posted but my feelings seldom match those of a review.
  3. SF, I'm not asking you discuss the specifics about the Temple, just curious about how members feel about the changes - that's all. M. When and if changes are made there is not any formal announcement that is made. To be honest, your question was the first I had heard of it. This is not correct. The last time they made some changes to the endowment there was a recorded message that spoke about it. Really? Where was the recorded message given?
  4. Guys, I am very touched from your sincere posts... Great Job!Mark, My heart goes out to you. How difficult it must be to keep up with all of your different stories. I agree you do need to seek out professional help. You shouldn't have to go through this alone and a professional would be a great asset to you. Do you have health insurance? Many times their will be counceling services available with just your co-pay.
  5. In my experiences if he always wakes up each night like then he was just developed a habit. If he checks out physically then I would try to cut back on checking in on him when he cries in the night. Maybe just check on him once or something like that. At this age it is very easy for the little tyke to actually train you. If he does, then you¡Çre a goner.
  6. Wow, PD I didn't know that you were a farmer. I think I said that I admired farmers for their hard work. My dad was a farmer when he was a kid and I have always admired his work ethics. He is up early in the morning (5:00) and goes to bed early (by 10:00). My dad also lost his peach tree to a bore just recently.
  7. Well, who is it that you feel is "missing"?

  9. This opens today nationwide.
  10. I think that you should know this but just in case you don't I will tell you that most faithful members don't discuss sacred temple matters on a message board.
  11. One of the things I believe that has made life hard for our children is that as a society is that in general we have given them too much and expected too little of them. I believe that this is part of the problem when we talk about hiring illegal immigrants to work the hard, low paying jobs. Today¡Çs youth, want things handed to them and many of us has enabled them in this belief. Work is a very important aspect in raising children. If a person doesn't work hard for what they get I believe that the desire is left unfulfilled. Abundance doesn't necessarily bring happiness if there is little work involved. I really admire farmers, they work really hard and at harvest time they must feel very satisfied see what their work created...food.
  12. Parents can't or shouldn't have to stand over the shoulder of their children every minute. Whether a parent works or not, we should teach our kids to seek out the things that bring light into their lives.I don't know of any parent who allows computers in a Childs bedroom. Sure computers can be a great learning tool but they can also take our children to places we do not want them to go. I now have a pop up blocker on my computer but in the past there would be pop-ups on s*x and they wouldn't stop when you tried to close the window, they just kept adding more. Thanks modern technology. In addition, we can have some control about what goes on in our homes but when our children go to their friends homes we loose that control.
  13. I agree with you Blessed. I remember hearing my mom telling me that the pressures I had when I was a teen were more difficult then hers.We then go to our teens being a walking billboard for designer clothes. I feel that standard uniforms would be less distracting and therefore be beneficial to learning in school. I also feel uniforms would keep all of our children at the same status level at the beginning. BTW, when I was a teen I was fortunate enough to choose the top brands if I wanted them and so are my children. One of the things that I love so much about the temple is the unity that is present when we are all dressed in our white clothing.
  14. My own spiritual experiences have not been the common variety type to me. They have been my experiences and thus meant to only affect me and possibly those close to me. I will say that I personally have had many spiritual experience that have shaped my life and have made a positive change in me These experiences have sent me into the fire for refining many times and I believe that each time I emerge I am a bit more committed to living in a way which I am teachable...like a child. One of the things I have discovered for myself is that the things I desire the most stay just beyond my reach. Remedy... Put your trust in the Lord to give you what you need each day.
  15. Traveler,Great story, for a minute I thought that you were talking about my oldest son. He went on an overnighter with his troop to Crystal Lake, some secret spot so I am told. We went with a couple of his buddies to climb rocks. As he was pulling himself up from a lower level to get to the top, he pulled a piece of shell rock down on him and it struck him in the leg before cutting his inner ankle deeply. There was blood flowing into his shoe like a faucet. His two friends helped him back to camp. As they ripped the seam in his pants at the ankle blood sprayed everywhere. The rock had cut a main artery in his leg. One of the leaders grabbed one of his own clean white t-shirts to work as a Band-Aid, and another grabbed the duct tape. The duct provided the pressure needed on his cut. The leaders used their cell phones to call my husband who was returning from a Utah Buzz game with Nick and a friend. He called me and I was at home hosting my daughters Birthday party with twelve young girls. I called one of my young women to take over for me and I was off to meet them at the hospital. In the ER they tried to clean him up but he just kept bleeding and the nurse told us that he had cut a main artery and he was lucky that he had not bleed to death. Our neighbor came to get Nick and his friend and assisted my husband with a blessing for my son. No sooner were they finished when the doctor pulled back the curtain. When he took a look at the cut the bleeding had stopped and he was able to sew him up and set him for a cast because he had also broken his leg. The power of the priesthood heals and I have seen that manifested many times in my life. I am so thankful to those leaders who packed my son out on their backs and their quick thinking with the shirt and duct tape. Duct tape will also be a necessity on any scouting trip in the future.
  16. What a great memory you have! Have you ever considered writing a book?
  17. I went to school on "The East Side".
  18. In another post there has been some discussion about the difficulties our youth have vs. the benefits of living in today¡Çs world. My view is that our children have more pressures and negative things to deal with then I did as a child growing up in the 60's and 70's. I wonder is anyone else has seen Satan¡Çs hand working even stronger then it was during your youth. Sure you will have more of the same in some area's but to me the times have dictated a stronger prevalence of evil and much of this I feel is aimed right at the youth of today. What are your feelings in this matter?
  19. Gee, talk about the other end of the pendulum. Yes we might live fairly close, but our experiences are so different.I live in an area with many children who are in school and so we are averaging about 30 children per class room and that is too many. Where I grew up in Utah there were no tuff wars at all. The biggest trouble kids got into was sneaking into the teachers lounge and buying pop. We were not allowed to drink pop at school.
  20. We were there over this past weekend and it is a very haunting image when you see homes where half of the home is gone. We saw a street that lead to a cul-de-sac and then everything was gone including the land. They can't even rebuild because the land is gone down stream into Lake Mead. I can tell you there was a very somber feeling there this weekend.
  21. This I will agree with but it isn't the scouting program that is at fault. It is society and as soon as parents lost their rights to discipline a child the children have had control. If you take away a privilege you are being abusive and they let you know it too. Kids today have a spirit of entitlement and it is really hurting them. The schools are pushing them through the system just as fast as they can and that is hurting them as well.
  22. Are you kidding?Yes I would agree that technology has improved some things but has this made our children smarter and added to their creativity? I would have to say no and that our children sufferd a great deal within the school system of over crowded classrooms. They do not get as many hands on experiences as they did and computers have lead many people to become more sendentary. Drugs are more prevenant in school then before and so is sex. The mirrors on shoes??? In those days IF they got away with that all they would possiably see is a hole lot of panties. Panties are not even worn by many girls anymore...it's the thong. I believe that our children have it much harder today. Today many children with all of the new technology don't even know how to play and they are not allowed to be children. I remember when I would ride a bike all the time and it was because it was fun. Negitivity comes in the way kids are treated especially from their piers. It comes from the pressure that kids have to fit in. It comes on the acidemic achievement that is required and being placed upon them and teachers who have too many students. Am I to understand that you believe that school is a better place today then it was in our time? I don't ever remeber having the threat of kids shooting kids at school. Or being distracted by someoine using a cell phone during class. It has become such a place for anything but learning that some parents have resulted to home school their children.
  23. From what I have seen my answers would be yes, much of the time it is all about keeping them happy. The problem is that because not everyone like one thing you need to have a variety of things for them to do.In today¡Çs world I believe that there are enough negative things happening to our children. If a boy earns a merit badge then I feel that it is a very good thing for him to be rewarded for. What¡Çs wrong with a little positive attention?
