  1. Somewhere along the line, I thought that you had a legal background...is that not true?Anyway, if that were to happen, and the chose to get involved with legal matters, there would receive criticism about divorce issues.
  2. I don't enjoy TV either and prefer doing something where I am required to think.I would not enjoy traveling for along time like that. If you do not post much when you are home I guess your commitments are with your family and that is nice.
  3. I believe that as well.I also believe that we have a great deal to learn from these children.
  4. As we look at our families who we have the opportunity to spend eternity with, I would think that placing of spirits would have to be deliberate. Is this concept wrong? What about genealogy, is this something we do as an after affect of this placing? This is a very interesting concept, that placement of our physical bodies group our spirits together. We are first one big family in heaven, our spirits are placed in physical bodies to come to earth and return to heaven with so much more. Families have so much influence on each other that placement is such a responsibility. I have always felt that when I have a child, that my child is just on loan to me as if were. When Nick got hurt, I knew that he was not only my son but His son too and when I felt so helpless to do anything for Nick, I turned over his care to the Lord without a problem. Shortly after it was confirmed to me that Nick would live, I "took" him back again. One of my previous bishops came to visit us while Nick was in the hospital. He asked me how I was doing, and I told him that I was doing fine because things were going My way. He looked into my eyes and said, SF, things will always be fine because they will be the Lords way. Well, only being a week or so into his accident I felt...gee, to be THAT strong would really be a stretch for me. In hindsight, I think that I was, if only temporally, blessed with that much strength as I turned over Nicks' life to the Lord. I was only being human when I “took” him back to finish my assignment of caring for this child. I can’t stop looking at him and smiling. Sometimes when I do this I say “Who loves you Nick more then anything?” and every time, he points upward and then at himself. Oh, how I want him to say “you do mom” but it never comes. I have just come to realize that Nick has been right all along. Now I just marvel at the miracle of Nick being saved. Nick was intentionally sent back to earth because it was not his time to go. I have since contemplated that he must have volunteered for that assignment, not necessarily for his benefit, but for the many lives that have been touched, and that will be touched by him and this continuing miracle.
  5. Sorry I missed you post. When posting on the internet I always write G-d. There are several reasons. One is to remind me to be respectful of G-d. Another is that in my travels I have discovered many (Jews and Muslims) will frequent religious forums on the internet - they seldom post because they are afraid of English and they have observed how some with different opinions are treated. Also they are forbidden to copy material that spells out G-d. In the unlikely case they want to copy one of my post and to accommodate them - I take extra care. I have received an e-mail that something I posted was read at a Mosque following the Friday prayers. BTW I also suspect that some post are used for various reasons in parts of the world that would surprise many who post - not knowing how like feathers the wind blows their words. The Traveler Traveler, I am thrilled that you are posting here and that you are feeling open to share so many insightful things to us. :)
  6. Heh, where on earth did you get that one? Interesting, how you find that, in what I said. By “interoperating” the gospel, are you referring to “interpreting” the gospel? If so, no biggie, I’ve made typos before too, I’m just not sure if that is what you meant. But if it is, can you provide an example of someone interpreting the gospel in a way that no one else understands? The above question is a bit confusing to me but I believe I answered most of it above this quote.
  7. Welcome Tulipgirl, I also live in Utah. This board can be interesting at times. Try not to become discouraged, it is worth staying with it. YW is one of my favorite places to serve. How did you come about selecting your screen name?
  8. The day for me could only have been better if my mom had been there, and my hubby wasn't in such a hurry to get to our retreat. The meal was special, everything was beautiful, and the food all turned out (thanks curvette). I gave my new daughter in law the recipe for my moms’ raspberry Jell-O salad and we all felt her presences we chatted and reminisced about our past holidays. I took several photos (something that I had neglected to do in the past. Next time I prepare the Thanksgiving dinner for my family I will not be so apprehensive. I really enjoyed myself... the worry and work was worth it all. Well, how was this day for all of you? .
  9. Ray, I will be returning to answers your probing questions, but it will have to be another time. Tonight I am just too filled with happy thoughts and being thankful on this Thanksgiving Eve. May your turkey be juicy, your pies be sweet, and your shoes not to tight.
  10. It's Thanksgiving Eve. I am thankful for: The opportunity and the means to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner for my family for the very first time My Family, who builds me up, breaks me down, brings me joy, breaks my heart, but mostly reminds me that I am alive My Husband, who places his family first and still, makes my heart beat a little faster when he enters a room The opportunity to repent, and a Heavenly Father and Savior who love beyond measure My friends, who love and support me, even when I have found a deep dark hole...they manage to find me Living in a free country, where I have the freedom to be who ever I choose and for my religious freedom. The ability to recognize the Lords hand in my life Being blessed my mother for 42+ years of my life Having a heart which is stronger then my mind Priesthood blessing which have proven time and time again how much we are all loved by our Heavenly Father Trials in my life which have worked on my soul and forced me to learn the swim instead of drowning The opportunity for us to add to our family with a wedding The Lord allowing my son to live in the event of a miracle Happy Thanksgiving LDSTalk Family
  11. Ray?BTW, I think your swell. Happy Turkey Day
  12. Oh I forgot this...You say you want to go out with "this girlie". Is this girlie already 16? I think that turning 16 is one of the best birthdays ever!
  13. I am curious about your screen name and avatar... why did you choose them?I have another question, what does idk mean?
  14. PD. Dry or not, I think I have an idea of what you are trying to say. The military quote is great, and can be applied to many people in our lives; even an employer who you might disrespect. I personally don't have a problem with the members of my ward including Priesthood leaders. What has struck a nerve is someone who says follow me because I have the greater authority...I hold the priesthood. I have witnessed men who have become so full of themselves, they become so extreme, they begin interoperating the gospel in a way that no one else understands. They begin to see themselves with so much authority they fall away from the truthfulness of the gospel and they become their own profit wanting others to see things the way they do. The way I see it, is someone with divine authority doesn't need to shove it in someone’s face and say follow me. Christ had a quiet authority that people longed to follow.
  15. I believe that Traveler does this out of respect. He has explained why he does this before but I can't remember why.I have been told that it is okay to say God. I would never say the word God in vain or as a swear word. To do that is very offensive to me, and I shutter when I hear it from others.
  16. As I read your story the spirit bore a witness to me...thank you Traveler
  17. Ihave learned very much from your words.I am now concerned to day a word without being prideful. I have a few questions at the risk of sounding prideful I want to ask. Is it wrong to have some amount of pride? Does a reply of thanks always turn into pride? A person who gives a sincere testimony to another is acting prideful? I have been taught that pride being out the natural man and the natural man takes us further away from becoming Christ like. If all of the things you mention can turn us prideful then what do we have left?
  18. Snow,Who is giving you a much deserved fortune?
  19. I guess part of the problem I have with this word is how it is used. I don't have a problem with someone having the authority to baptize or another saving ordinance. The problem that I have is when the word is being used to take away our rights to think or make choices on our own. I understand that there are those with an authority to uphold the law. I have heard of authority giving way to much power to those who abuse it. In order for me to respect an authority figure, respect must be earned though righteous use of that authority.
  20. This WORD has become an area of dispute and concern. I found this set of definitions from Dictionary.com au·thor·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-thôr-t, -thr-, ô-thôr-, ô-thr-) n. pl. au·thor·i·ties The power to enforce laws, exact obedience, command, determine, or judge. One that is invested with this power, especially a government or body of government officials: land titles issued by the civil authority. Power assigned to another; authorization: Deputies were given authority to make arrests. A public agency or corporation with administrative powers in a specified field: a city transit authority. An accepted source of expert information or advice: a noted authority on birds; a reference book often cited as an authority. A quotation or citation from such a source: biblical authorities for a moral argument. Justification; grounds: On what authority do you make such a claim? A conclusive statement or decision that may be taken as a guide or precedent. Power to influence or persuade resulting from knowledge or experience: political observers who acquire authority with age. Confidence derived from experience or practice; firm self-assurance: played the sonata with authority.
  21. aaaaaaaaaaaa Harvey? Is that anyone like Starsky/Peace? Is he sexy? Is is loved by all the guys too? It's just that you remind us of so many of our dearly departed friends. Why? Why does Amillia remind you of Harvey? I remember him well and Amillias' posts are nothing like his IMO. I did enjoy the posts from Peace/Starsky and I am not sure why she no longer posts here. Has Amillia given you reason to question his/her identity?
  22. Wow Deb,Thanks for seeing what I failed to see, and what Snow failed to catch me on. If a thread seems surreal, am I am involved, I can admit living in a surreal life. Sly, well that would be the other person.
  23. It will be out on DVD for sale to the public then. :) So ............ where did you see it? I saw the movie at The Jordan Commons; a movie theater.
  24. This is a great post. I remember when the TV Mini Series Angles In America came out. It was being publicized as a story about a Mormon. I was looking foreword to seeing this "Hollywood" version of Mormon life. I watched only a portion of the first show but was disappointed to see what they represented in this mini series. If I remember correctly, there was a similar in context to this movie in the email above. This is not the LDS lifestyle that I am familiar with and I felt that the writers caught hold of something they thought would get them recognition and money. The media doesn't always produce truth and in today’s world it isn't always truth that sells. If you can add an element of truth with something scandalous you just might have a best seller. This is not something new to us Satan has used this recipe many times to lead us down the wrong path. Should Blockbuster pull the movie... it depends on the message they want to deliver. Yes, many members will be upset about this movie that by name, and appearance, represents the beliefs of the LDS Faith. Who I will feel pity for, are the makers of the movie for miss-representing the LDS Faith in order to make a buck. The Blockbuster Corporation either, didn't check into the movie for context, or they just didn't care. It would be interesting to see where this movie is being marketed…is it only in Utah? Unfortunately, it is the movie makers right to produce what they want, regardless who it will offend. I believe that we should pass the word along that this movie is NOT like the other ones and should not be rented or bought. Many times, we could get the wrong idea just as Blockbuster patron did at first. I had the wrong idea when the movie Brigham City came out. I did not turn it over and see that it was about a murder; sure they had a bishop and other religious figures in that movie but it still was disturbing. Luckily, when I rented it I only watched it with my husband and my children wasn't part of the deceit. The movie Latter Days, will not be only my list to see or buy this Christmas season.
  25. It will be out on DVD for sale to the public then. :)
