  1. What about going to football games (pro or non-pro) where a lot of the cheerleaders aren't dressed any different than Hooters waitresses? What about supporting a business such as that? I live only two hours from Ocean City, Md. and I can see more bikini clad girls in a 30 second walk across the boardwalk than I can in a 30 minute sit down at a Hooters. And as far as Hooters girls talking "suggestively", I've been to Hooters at the beach more than a dozen times and every time the waitresses were polite and treated you with respect. There were no 'come-ons' or flirtatious talk of any kind. I took three of my nephews there and never once was there any oogling or lewd talk from them during or after the lunch. For those of you who are so uptight over this, go and check out a Hooters for yourself. You might be surprised how you may not need that cold shower after your dinner.
  2. Do you think they are even remotely going out of their way to do so? I seriously doubt it. Double standard.
  3. hppt://www.fox13now.com/news/kstu-byu-dancer-counciled-for-showing-too-much-skin-on-SYTYCD-20110602,0,6180723.story Thoughts?!
  4. I think some people need to lighten up just a bit! This restaurant is no different than the way women dress on the beach. So when you go to the beach, do you cover little Johnny's eyes every time he sees a woman in a bikini? Are we this skiddish about allowing our children to see a womans arms or legs? BTW, they said that there were NO complaints issued to the school from any of the parents whose children were there.
  5. But when is/isn't it appropriate? You're right, we don't need Daddy telling us when to wear them.....but yet we do........but then we shouldn't...........but then we still do........but why should we......but then we must.......but then......
  6. For me, this is exactly where the confusion sets in. Where are the references from the GA's that say we don't have to wear them during sports or have to wear them for yard work? And why would there need to be any yes's and no's from GA's if this is supposed to be strictly between God and myself? And why are some sports o.k. and others not? Again, where is the line drawn on this? Dancing is o.k. but if I'm working up a sweat in the yard all day then that's not? Don't understand that. Just simply trying to get some clarification on this because the lines on this seem to be at the very least blurry.
  7. So when is it that you are allowed to not wear the garments and not be breaking your promise to God? So were do we draw the line as to when it is and isn't appropriate to wear them? Is this left to each and every individual to decide or are there hardcore yes's and no's as to when we can or can't? Just curious as to where the line is on all of this.
  8. But yet there does seem to be a bit of a double standard when it comes to former vs. latter day prophets on what is said and accepted. It seems like anything Brigham Young said in regards to race not only seems to get poo-pooed off, but then to call him a racist is O.K., yet if President Monson where to say something in the press that would be deemed as quasi-racist, and members would then start making comments about him being a racist, I can guarantee temple recommends will be getting recinded left and right. In some ways I can see where the O.P. is coming from. I never quite understood the whole "living prophet overrides a dead prophet" outlook that the church seems to have in regards to our leaders. To me, what a prophet says is what a prophet says, whether it was 150 days ago or 150 years ago.
  9. Update: The funeral for the Clouse family was held today and there was no sign of the Westboro Baptists anywhere, although state police and neighbors were ready. The children were buried in seven white caskets, side by side, in a very peaceful and reverent funeral. Over 1000 people were in attendance. To the 7 Clouse children, R.I.P. You are now with your Father in heaven.:)
  10. I just tell people that I go to the LDS church. Then they're response usually is "what's that?". Then I tell them it's the Latter-day Saint church, and then they're like "Oh, o.k., got it". Even though I can tell by their look that they still quite don't.lol Also, they don't usually want to go a second "what's that" without feeling stupid so that helps me to avoid the whole 'Mormon' thing which I know what kind of questioning that tends to bring.
  11. I think YOU are the one who needs to understand just what their message is. Do you know why these people are going to be protesting at these 7 kids' funeral? It has nothing to do with homosexuality. The reason they are protesting is because they believe that anybody who has an abundant life and has been given great rewards is of God and anybody who's had terrible things happen to them must be of the devil. So therefore, this humble Mennonite family must be of Satan and needs to be brought to shame because of it!! And you are saying that this isn't too far from what other christians including LDS are saying?!! Are you serious?!! And you're also saying that this is not fully against what a lot of people believe?! WOW!! You're on your own with this one my friend.
  12. O.K. so we're making people aware of who they are and what their message is. Big deal. The media has already been doing that for years. The next step is to now squash the scum back into the hole from where they came from so that their message will never be heard from again and guess what, it just may be working in this case. Just this morning my girlfriend heard on the news that there is a chance that the WBC may be backing out after hearing of the number of people who will be getting involved with this protest, which include a number of motorcycle gangs. Once these people see that not only will their message not be tolerated, and that we will forcefully, yet lawfully, do everything we can to prevent it from spreading, then they will eventually tire of going to areas where the resistance will be practically unbearable for them to handle, which hopefully will be everywhere. The to the WBC it will be, message over.:)
  13. How do you figure? The more that people are made aware of this, the bigger the counter-protests will become. There are lots of people that still don't even know about these people. So what are we supposed to do, just not say anything and let these people go about disrupting funerals without any consequences? THAT is what will allow these people to feel victorious! If people stand together, they can eventually put an end to garbage like this. Their group is not growing, yet the counter-protests are. As one fired up lady said last night on the local news
  14. Three days ago, a horrific fire broke out at a farmhouse in Blain, Pa. killing seven out of the families eight children (age ranges from 6 months to 11 years). The Red Cross as well as neighbors and people from all over are responding to help, along with many financial donations pouring in. As sad as this all is, we just heard on the news tonight that the Westboro Baptist people are going to be protesting at these kids' funeral!! What the heck did these beautiful children ever do to have the likes of this group after them?! People are in an absolute furor over this with counterprotests already being organized. This is a small town with very proud, redneck people who will NOT take any guff off of anybody, especially from the likes of these dirtbags. I've got a feeling this will be hitting the national news very soon. Please pray for this family that they will get past this and be able to get their life back together. They don't need the headaches of these people coming in and making the memorial of their children even worse.
  15. The hard part in all of this is IF his papers are delayed, then how would he go about explaining this to his parents/family members? YIKES! And also, whatever happened to "go, and sin no more?"
  16. I'm just curious, but what are your tattoos? The reason I'm asking is because some may end up making some nice conversation pieces. My girlfriend has 3 butterfly tatoos that not only does she absolutely love, but just about everybody who comes in contact with her and sees them is always making a comment to her about how beautiful they are. Grocery stores, movie theaters, etc. She has absolutely no regrets whatsoever about having them because to her they represent the most harmless creature on earth and that's how she likes to depict herself. She's actually thinking about getting a 4th one! If someone is going to snub and judge you over superficial things like looks and tatoos and not get to know the beautiful person that you may be inside, then why would you want to have a person like that in your life anyhow?
  17. Hello? Can you read? This was not directed towards you!
  18. Just like how this is your interpretation of what happened to the OP and how he's reacting....and you weren't even there! You know what they say when you assume things.
  19. I don't think this is so much about having to abide by a very vague and "made up on the spot" honor code as it is the people's condescending attitude when an "infraction" arises. O.K., I can see why someone would want to call to your attention something that may be a problem or even a potentail problem of which I'm o.k. with, but why is it that yes, there usually does seem to be this kind of a "talking-down" and arrogant attitude that is relayed with that? And please don't give me the cop-out, stale line about how "the church is perfect, the people aren't." It's one thing to maybe have a bad day and have an attitude as such, but when these people can come across as bungholes on an almost daily basis, then how is that acting as any kind of representative of this Church's school or even of this Church? Would Jesus act with this kind of arrogance? Don't think so. I know because I experienced this same exact thing at BYU-I also.
  20. I'm just curious but where do you draw the line on obedience? You say we should do as our leaders say whether it be right OR WRONG? So does this mean then that you think we should do ANYTHING that a bishop or a stake president says, regardless? Didn't God give us a brain so that we can decide for our own selves what is right and what is wrong?
  21. Agree!
  22. You don't have to rent a movie or get HBO to get movies or shows of that nature. They're on your everyday T.V. stations. Just last night my girlfriend and I were watching an episode of Criminal Minds which was about a man who was killing people and cutting their eyes out. I've seen classic horror movies that weren't that bad.
  23. I know this may sound like a renegade idea, but the next time he asks you to bear your testimony, just nod your head 'no'. Why would that be so terrible? It wouldn't be because you don't have a testimony at that time, it's just that you'd maybe prefer to keep it personal during that moment. Just like partaking of the sacrament, one week you may feel like it, the next maybe not. It doesn't make you any less of a person because you didn't partake of it that one week. Are we now made to bear our testimonies just to keep up with appearances?! Who knows, maybe others might see this and follow your lead. Again, it's not saying that you don't have a testimony, it just that some things some people would rather keep personal than make it public. Nothing wrong with that.
  24. Excommunication does not equal abandonment? Wow, what perfect world are you living in!
  25. What would then motivate her to want to go back to church if she thinks there's a possibility of getting kicked out? Whatever happened to the story of the prodigal son?
