Questions about returning member experience.
not_ashamed replied to odinartwerks's topic in Advice Board
I was inactive for about 15 years and when I went back to church I found everyone to be very welcoming. I had to commit myself to it though and it wasn't always easy. During the time I was inactive I picked up really bad habits but for me all of them were easily laid aside once I decided I wanted to go back to the church. I joined at 15, left home and went inactive at 16, then went back when I was 29. Almost 4 years now. Good luck, I think the best advice was given by mormonmusic. Give of yourself, your time, and your energy. Serve callings when asked and volunteer when possible. I think you will find your ward to be very happy to have you back. -

Planned in pre-existence or just bad luck?
not_ashamed replied to bytor2112's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I don't believe it's chosen, just the way the cards fell. Or maybe if it was chosen, we saw something about that person in the pre-mortal existence that they lost once here. -
Then he just got really lucky??

I think Faith is a great thing, I also think Heavenly father has given us all common sense as well as blessed us with those who have the knowledge to heal us. I fully believe he expects us to take our children to doctors and keep them safe from harm.

Standing up for what's right or just plain rude?
not_ashamed replied to talisyn's topic in Current Events
Just wrong, wrong , wrong!!! What a jerk. Wish his behavior would reflect negatively in his album sales, but it will probably have the reverse effect. -
I have only seen babies blessed in sacrament meetings, and while I dont see anything wrong with blessings your child in the meeting, I think it may be more appropriate to do it in a private setting considering the age of your child.

These are good questions, as for the first I guess like most Christian faiths it would be Easter and Christmas. How has this religion shaped my life, well i can only speak for myself but for me it has answered all of the questions I always had as a child. I now understand our purpose here and no longer feel as if our life here is just a waste of time as I once felt. It doesn't make life less difficult but it does make it more bearable. I now understand that this life shapes our afterlife and that our father in heaven loves us. There was a time i didn't always believe that. Understanding free agency helps me to understand his wisdom and why bad things happen. I now understand that he doesn't cause evil but to stop it would take away our agency. Now for your last question.I guess you could ask this question of 100 different LDS members and get 100 different answers. For me its not that challenging. I think its more challenging for others to accept our beliefs and practices than it is for us. It bothers me when people make assumptions about our faith and never put forth a genuine effort to understand our beliefs but instead just believe whatever they run across on the internet, or whatever their religious leader tells them about us. Our faith isnt a secret and we are happy to share our beliefs with any who want to know. Hope you find the answers you are looking for

LOST!!!! dont you dare do that. Especially not because of the comment made by one.You are doing the best you can to avoid temptation, just bacause one person believes you are imprisoning yourself doesnt make it true. You have totally put yourself out there, and are making more of an effort than most would ever dare. I am proud of you lost, dont be discouraged by the words of someone else.
