LOL-- do you really want to ask that question? LOL D&C 1: 38 38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. -

Joseph Smith was a conspiracy theorist. shame on him D&C 89: 4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation— Hey Pam and Snow... and all you can start stoning Joseph Smith's validity any time now... -

I think we choose to see what we see and don't see in Salt Lake. I grew up there and if I compare the slc I grew up in to the slc I go and visit kit and kin in today-- it is filthy, rude, chaotic, pathetic and very worldly. -

what I understand is it is about 50/50 ... gays are having issues with the church and leadership-- but many members surrounding the new gay community vocalized how wonderful neighbors the gays made and how nice of people they were. this on public tv... -

the lord looketh upon the heart. Where much is given-- much is expected. I would say pride, gossip, lazyiness correlating to what has been given-- might be some of the reasons the Lord would consider it more wicked. consider that they are now as a city and even saints -- embracing gays and their movement with great sympathy as a sign of wickedness. -

I didn't really take anything serious from the OP because of the purpose of its existence... to torment and make fun of my past references. So I missed the direction it might have led the discussion in facts... sorry. Yeah... I think the programs for paying the farmers to not plant fields is dating back to the fifties... that's when I first heard about them. -

You are right. The last days especially.. though living during germany's Hitler regime or Italy's Musilini's regime or Polands Stalin days couldn't have been pleasant. I think when comparing our US to other places and times-- including those of the book of mormon we see that the whole worlds history has been fraught with horror and violence. Watching the patriot with mel gibson shows how the Celtic world had its own nightmares and we know that there has been famines, pestilence and evil throughout the worlds history. It is just where we are. Not even and especially so Christ... what he suffered.. How can we ask for better than what the Lord suffered. Physically we may not be safe. We need to follow every word the Lord has given us through his prophets for our day. We have to take time to influence our children and to protect them spiritually if not physically from the world. It isn't easy as Joseph Smith experienced and as the early saints in Salt lake experienced. Where the good put forth an effort-- Satan gathers his forces and uses the wicked to torment and destroy.. I would say to you-- be anxiously engaged in a good cause-- exercise faith in the Lord and know that this physical world is just a life's sentence where we must prove that against all odds and against all opposition we will do what the Lord says. He who saves his life-- loses it. He who is willing to forgo his own will -- and embraces the Lord even to the parell of his life-- saves it. -
Those guilty will say ouch in so many ways!

I think I should add to that post. He isn't hovering, but he is aware -- we are in a world where He has sent prophets-- he has given us the gospel and HIS SON... They are the light in a dark world. -

If you consider that God cannot abide the least degree of sin you understand he isn't going to be hovering over this telestial world where satan resides. -

I would give you several answers, but the one you need to understand is found in Genesis. Gen. 3: 17 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; We are in a fallen telestial state-- 1st Nephi 10: 6 Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer. We know from the first article of faith that we will not suffer for Adam's transgression... so in order to be here in a fallen state we must have fallen also. There are no innocent except through Christ and the atonement. This brings us to babies and little children under the age of accountability. They are here to receive a body-- but also 'experience'. Joseph Smith was told that it would be just a little moment, but that it was all for his good and experience. the Lord truly only knows why we need these kinds of hardships, but we must recognize that we are here on a earth where Satan and his hosts were cast. Eph. 6: 12 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. One last item for this post-- you don't know who you were before you came here. You don't know how important you are to the Lord's kingdom-- but Satan does. He destroys many promsing noble and great -- like a football game they try to take out the quarterback-- etc.. -
