  2. From Bruce R. McConkie From the Book - A New Witness for the Articles of Faith Chapter 12 False Doctrines About the Fall Heresies Concerning Adam and the Fall Heresy 3- Organic evolution is the process whereby all life on earth came into being, and man, as now constituted, is the end product of this process. Commentary: This is the false view of many self-designated scientists. The tendency among them is to present Darwinian theories as established realities. These theories postulate the evolvement of all forms of life from lower orders over astronomically long periods of time. They assume death has always been present and that there never was a fall, and they make no provision for a plan of redemption and a resurrection of all forms of life. Heresy 4: Evolution is the process God used to create all forms of life except Adam, who came by special creation; or Adam was the end product of an evolutionary system used by the Lord for his own purposes. Commentary: These false notions, together with whatever variations of them happen to be in vogue at any given time, are simply an attempt, on the part of those whose faith falls short of the divine standard, to harmonize the specious theories of men with the revelations of the Lord. They pledge a superficial allegiance to religious truth and allow for a form of divine worship without forsaking the theories of men. They, of necessity, assume that death has always existed on earth, that it did not have its beginning with the fall of Adam, and that there must be some other explanation for all the revelations which say that the atonement ransoms man from the effects of the fall. When those who espouse this view talk of a fall and an atonement, they falsely assume such applies only to man rather than to the earth and all forms of life, as the scriptures attest.
  3. You are taking the statement out of context. "He formed every plant that grows and every animal that breathes, each after its own kind, spiritually and temporally—“that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal, and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual.” Which means that He also created the DNA which dictates the outcome of whatever He created, His outcome, so yes. Simple to understand and you would have known the answer if you'd have read my posts as I never said that DNA, not G_D dictates any outcome whatsoever. As for the scripture not referring to Adam, here's one from a Church Presidency no less:: It is held by some that Adam was not the first man upon this earth and that the original human being was a development from lower orders of the animal creation. These, however, are the theories of men. The word of the Lord declared that Adam was “the first man of all men” (Moses 1:34), and we are therefore in duty bound to regard him as the primal parent of our race. And lastly there is absolutely no proof of human evolution, that's why it's still called a Theory and I'll take the Apostles word for that any day.

  5. Never mind I'll go converse with a BRICK WALL!
  6. No the OP titled the Thread Human Evolution, I'm not confusing anything.. The Church to be quite clear on the subject. By the way there is nothing evolutionary about gravity or plate tectonics. And I can see why you would be surprised.
  7. You cannot adapt or evolve to a form higher order than already possessed. The second law of thermodynamics, which states in part that it is not possible for a spontaneous process to produce a system of higher order than the system possessed at the beginning of the change without an outside source of energy to improve the system. I guess because of evolution we now have plants and animals without spirits as well as the rest (which He hath created) with spirits and bodies. As the Presidency of the Church has stated. "He formed every plant that grows and every animal that breathes, each after its own kind, spiritually and temporally—“that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal, and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual.”
  8. Since it wasn't my statement in the first place I wasn't unawares or aware of any incorrectness and since the statement was from an Apostle given in General Conference I choose to believe it is true until a church authority with more authority says otherwise. And since evolution is just a theory the statement can't be proven true or untrue. You might be talking about mutation, or adaptation but not evolution. From “Seek Ye Diligently” By Elder George R. Hill III Formerly of the Seventy George R. Hill III, "“Seek Ye Diligently”", Ensign, June 1993, 21 "The theory of evolution as presently taught posits that higher forms of life arose gradually from lower stages of living matter. Inheritable genetic changes in offspring are assumed to be spontaneous rather than the result of arranged or directed forces external to the system." "This theory conflicts with a basic law of chemistry, the second law of thermodynamics, which states in part that it is not possible for a spontaneous process to produce a system of higher order than the system possessed at the beginning of the change." "Many Latter-day Saints recognize that the processes involved in evolution are valid. We see improved strains and varieties of plants and animals developed through judicious selection of their parents. But we would have to agree with those who understand the limitation defined in the second law of thermodynamics limitation that such changes can only occur if guided or if outside energy is available to improve the system." "We are in the very fortunate position of understanding that the Lord is in charge of the universe and that positive genetic changes can in fact occur under his direction. On the other hand, spontaneous improvements of the type hypothesized by devotees of current evolutionary theory remain an unsupported supposition." Long time or short time - moot point - but Brother Packers moot point not mine.
  9. Yeah, like telling a poster they're SLOPPY is good internet etiquette:cool::cool:
  10. Oh, you were actually being serious? President Packer may have stated these things in his book but were based on an October 1984 General Conference talk. Golly how useless Conference has turned out to be. (not!)
  11. https://lds.org/ensign/2002/02/the-origin-of-man?lang=eng for the complete article The Origin of Man By the First Presidency of the Church First Presidency, "The Origin of Man", Ensign, Feb. 2002, 26 From Improvement Era, Nov. 1909, 75–81; capitalization, punctuation, paragraphing, and spelling standardized. “God created man in his own image” (Gen. 1:27). In the early 1900s, questions concerning the Creation of the earth and the theories of evolution became the subject of much public discussion. In the midst of these controversies, the First Presidency issued the following in 1909, which expresses the Church’s doctrinal position on these matters. A reprinting of this important First Presidency statement will be helpful as members of the Church study the Old Testament this year. Inquiries arise from time to time respecting the attitude of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints upon questions which, though not vital from a doctrinal standpoint, are closely connected with the fundamental principles of salvation. The latest inquiry of this kind that has reached us is in relation to the origin of man. It is believed that a statement of the position held by the Church upon this subject will be timely and productive of good. In presenting the statement that follows we are not conscious of putting forth anything essentially new; neither is it our desire so to do. Truth is what we wish to present, and truth—eternal truth—is fundamentally old. A restatement of the original attitude of the Church relative to this matter is all that will be attempted here. To tell the truth as God has revealed it, and commend it to the acceptance of those who need to conform their opinions thereto, is the sole purpose of this presentation. ..... It is held by some that Adam was not the first man upon this earth and that the original human being was a development from lower orders of the animal creation. These, however, are the theories of men. The word of the Lord declared that Adam was “the first man of all men” (Moses 1:34), and we are therefore in duty bound to regard him as the primal parent of our race. It was shown to the brother of Jared that all men were created in the beginning after the image of God; whether we take this to mean the spirit or the body, or both, it commits us to the same conclusion: Man began life as a human being, in the likeness of our Heavenly Father. ....... The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, basing its belief on divine revelation, ancient and modern, proclaims man to be the direct and lineal offspring of Deity. God Himself is an exalted man, perfected, enthroned, and supreme. By His almighty power He organized the earth and all that it contains, from spirit and element, which exist coeternally with Himself. He formed every plant that grows and every animal that breathes, each after its own kind, spiritually and temporally—“that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal, and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual.” He made the tadpole and the ape, the lion and the elephant, but He did not make them in His own image, nor endow them with godlike reason and intelligence. Nevertheless, the whole animal creation will be perfected and perpetuated in the Hereafter, each class in its “distinct order or sphere,” and will enjoy “eternal felicity.” That fact has been made plain in this dispensation (see D&C 77:3).
  12. There is also nothing to indicate He did either. The life of a single cell zygote is dictated by the DNA inherent in that organism. Evolution, no I don't buy it No Proof - Progression, yes that's what life is all about.
  13. Yeah, I'm sloppy as all get out!!!!! But;, so then must Rodney Turner be sloppy, (The Footstool of God) Earth in Scripture and Prophecy) pages 15 and 16. But so then must Boyd K Packer be sloppy, sir, as he states in his book (Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled) pages 289-290 stated, "No lesson is more manifest in nature than that all living things do as the Lord commanded in the Creation. They reproduce "after their own kind" (gee, where did I hear that Oakland, Salt Lake, Provo, Saint George, Manti?) (see Moses 2:12, 24). They follow the pattern of their parentage. Everyone knows that: every four-year old knows that! A bird will not become an animal nor a fish: a mammal will not beget reptiles; nor "do men gather . . . figs of thistles" (Mat-thew 7:16). In the countless billions of opportunities in the reproduction of living things, one kind does not beget another. If a species ever does cross, the offspring generally cannot reproduce. The pattern for all life is the pattern of the parentage. This is demonstrated in so many obvious ways that even an ordinary mind should understand it. Surely no one with reverence for God could believe that His children evolved from slime or from reptiles. (Although one can easily imagine that those who accept the theory of evolution don't show much enthusiasm for genealogical research!) The theory of evolution (and it is a theory) will have an entirely different dimension when the workings of God in creation are fully revealed. Since every living thing follows the pattern of its parentage, are we to suppose that God had some other strange pattern in mind for His offspring? Surely we, His children, are not, in the language of science, a different species than He is. What is in error, then, when we use the term godhood to describe the ultimate destiny of mankind? We may now be young in our progression—juvenile, even infantile, compared with God. Nevertheless, in the eternities to come, if we are worthy, we may be like unto Him, enter His presence, "see as [we] are seen, and know as [we] are known," and receive "a fullness" • (D&C 76:94). This doctrine is in no way at variance with the scriptures. Nevertheless it is easy to understand why some Christians reject it, because it introduces the possibility that man may achieve godhood. Boyd K. Packer except for (gee, where did I hear that Oakland, Salt Lake, Provo, Saint George, Manti?)
  14. I call it God's irrevocable facts and truth vs the philosophies of man. 15&16 The Footstool of God Evolution and Natural Law This working article of faith among thorough-going naturalists explains the pervasiveness of the evolutionary doctrine among cosmologists, geologists, paleontologists, biologists, and other scientists. While men should not be faulted for advancing any hypothesis they choose in their search for truth, some can be justifiably criticized for practicing sleight of hand and transforming questionable theory into unquestionable fact. Such unscientific science has led to the widespread practice of arbitrarily dismissing every theory but the evolutionary theory for the origin of the universe, the earth, life, man, and human culture. For too many intellectuals, evolution is the key which unlocks the door to all beginnings. Why do these men insist upon exalting theory to the heights of incontrovertible fact? Whatever their motives, one thing is indisputable: not a single aspect of the companion theories of cosmic, organic, and cultural evolution is dependent upon any mind, any power, any cause or any god other than natural law itself. Evolution is a self-generating process. The naturalistic approach to the question of origins is defended as being objective, but the dogmatic stand of some of its practitioners suggests that their "objectivity" is actually a euphemism for pride. No human enterprise can justify the absence of humility—the recognition of God's works and ways and man's fundamental dependence upon him. (See D&C 59:21.) A proud science is no more excusable than a proud man. Orson Pratt observed: Now, the Lord has powers beyond those with which we are acquainted. He has almighty powers. He has only intrusted us his children of mortality with a knowledge of some of the more gross principles and laws of this fallen creation, and when we, through hard study, search out the relation of one law to another, we think we are learned men; but I think when we learn in that great university the sciences of which the Lord our God is the great Teacher, we shall learn more rapidly and comprehend more easily the things of his kingdom, than we now do the things of time. (JD, 19:294.) While the theistic science of the middle ages can be rightly criticized for its prejudices, some of its present offspring are guilty of an even greater sin: by enthroning law they have dethroned the Law-giver. The wedding of science to natural law is a marriage of convenience, not of necessity. Scientific research does not require the abandonment of faith in God's sovereignty over law. That faith, so emphasized in Christianity, was simply surrendered for the lesser faith of naturalism. The history of science is usually taught in a manner to make religion—"the church"—an arch-villain in the piece. The persecution of Galileo and others is recounted in a manner to suggest that all religion is an enemy to open inquiry. Consequently, the notion is almost universal that in so far as the physical order is concerned, religion has nothing to say and no right to say it. The tyranny of blind faith has been supplanted by the tyranny of blind reason. Modern evolutionary theory is a dark child of the unholy alliance between science and natural law. It is the construct of creation imposed by human reason in the absence of an overruling intelligence. In other words, evolution is the only process man can conceive of for creation without a Creator. This is precisely why evolution, in all of its aspects, involves incredibly long periods of time. It is illogically assumed that anything can happen if there is sufficient time. The failure to demonstrate so naive a notion does not deter evolutionists from repeating it like a litany. However, the truth is that there are aspects of creation that are truly miraculous. They involve laws which transcend the understanding of man—laws which were and are uniquely employed by the Almighty in his own creative labors. But those who insist upon explaining everything on strictly naturalistic principles deny the miraculous and, perforce, the Miracle Worker.
  15. The Jews will be preached to and many will accept the Gospel of Christ. The Ten Tribes will return starting in Missouri then move on to Israel to fulfill prophesy and complete the second step of Christ's Theocracy in which He will rule His Church from Israel as He will rule His Political government righteously from New Jerusalem.
  16. Lieberman: Shut Down WikiLeaks Monday, 29 Nov 2010 11:47 AM Sen. Joe Lieberman is calling on the United States and other governments to shut down Wikileaks by "all legal means" after the website's latest dump of classified U.S. documents, the New York Times reports. Lieberman, WikiLeaks, terrorist, shut downWikileaks' release of more than 250,000 diplomatic cables is "nothing less than an attack on the national security of the United States, as well as that of dozens of other countries," Lieberman, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said in a statement on Sunday. Pressure to curb the site and its operators is growing in Congress. Rep. Peter King, incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, wants the U.S. to formally declare Wikileaks a terrorist organization.
  17. Actually, the first component of the Theocractic Kingdom will be accomplished before the return of Christ. Starting with the collapse of the government and with the Council of 50, in Utah no less. But that's another thread altogether.
  18. Yes, God will use whatever means that is at His disposal to establish the Theocracy of His Kingdom on Earth.
  19. The reason I say this is that there are many distractions in the Military. I was in the Military for 7 years and the lifestyle was not conducive to maintaining the Spirit which is needed to accomplish a mission. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying why tempt fate when the most important of the two goals is to go on a Mission. You might not partake of the worldliness of the Military but then you can't really get away from others partaking either.
  20. Orson Hyde continued on to Jerusalem alone. During his travels Orson met many notable personalities, some of whom were amazed at and interested in his mission. He enjoyed his travels through Europe and while waiting for his visa in Munich, learned to write and speak German. Tired and weary after several months’ travel of nearly 10,000 miles, Orson’s enthusiasm was revitalized as he finally arrived at the sacred city of Jerusalem. Here he carefully walked along a dark, narrow street, avoiding the heavily loaded camels that traveled toward him. In the early morning hour he passed through the ancient gate in the old decayed wall near the brook, Kidron. As Orson crossed over the small brook and climbed up the gentle slope of the hill, bright rays of sunshine encompassed the Mount of Olives. It was a magnificent sight as he gazed upon the surrounding countryside from the top of the mount. There, alone, on Sunday, October 24, 1841, Orson wrote and offered the prayer dedicating Palestine for the return of the Jews and for the building of a temple in the future. For the first time in 1,800 years, an apostle stood again on the Mount of Olives. After his prayer Orson Hyde built two stone altars patterned after those of ancient Israel for memorials. The first memorial was on the Mount of Olives and the second on Mt. Moriah. In 1960 Elder George Q. Morris spoke of “God’s promise that he would gather Jews to Jerusalem, and I think perhaps we may well now not continue saying the Jews are going to gather in Jerusalem. I think now we may well say they have gathered. … The Jews have returned to Palestine.” Orson Hyde believed that the mission to Palestine was part of his divine destiny. This mission illustrated his great faith in Joseph Smith as a prophet of God and his belief in the Jews’ eventual return to Palestine preceding the coming of the Messiah as it has been prophesied by both ancient and modern prophets. There was no question in Orson’s mind that he had helped to prepare the way for the gathering of the members of the tribe of Judah and the final restoration of their homeland. He had traveled 20,000 miles to fulfill a mission call for his beloved Church, which was probably one of the longest and most hazardous missions undertaken in this dispensation. 21. First of all YOU have worked too hard to settle for less than you deserve. Second of all YOU owe it to your children to have the opportunity to live in a clean, safe LDS environment. Third of all YOU owe it to YOURSELF to break the chains of Satan and make a clean break before your children are old enough to be really damaged by your husbands behavior. It's your responsibility to protect them from your husbands actions and addictions. It sounds hard and will be difficult but very much needed. My parents divorced in my mid teens but it was the years that led up to the divorce that did the damage and took their toll on all of us. I'm still affected by it all to this very day. Thus I waited till I was 30 to get married the first time *(because I wanted it to be right). It didn't work and I'm now going through my third divorce right now. You and your children deserve happiness A prophet of the Book of Mormon said: “… men are, that they might have joy.” (2 Ne. 2:25.) You and your children deserve joy and exaltation.
  22. I think lawyers and recruiters used to be paired up - 3 lawyers to get 1 recruiter into Heaven.
