I didn't even think about that! I've emailed him my thoughts but never actually hand wrote anything. Thanks! -

I'm sending a package of to a young man in Ireland. His names Luke, he's 16. We are pen pals of sorts...He wants so badly to join the church but his parents won't let him even attend. He's studied the church mostly via the internet for the past 3 years. He knows about things, I mean he asks me questions about the Journals Of Discourse and random church things some teenagers don't know about :) He'll bring up quotes and favorite talks and such. I'm sending him a package. He's requested a church book which I have multiple copies at my house. Besides that what else should I send? What kind of church materiels or random things? So far I have in this package- strength of youth, church magazines, true to the faith, conference ensigns, church cd's and movies, seminary scripture mastery books marks and folder and fold out chart thingy. And, pop tarts and root beer popsicle thingys . Any other ideas? I'm also sending a package to his friend who i also am pen friends with. His isn't church related. I have pop tarts and root beer thingys. Any other ideas?

Eternal Loneliness - Or being single and Mormon
lizzy16 replied to ZSEdwardson's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Funky, I know you said this jokingly but I know a lot of people who have no issues with dating ages differing past 10 years. My mom was 19 and my dad was 29 when they got married. -

I remember reading that article. It was a really good one. thanks :) -
A young women age 15 in my wards cousin died. Her cousin was 16. They were best friends. The death was sudden and unexpected. The cousin and her family isn't a member. How can I help my friend with this shock? She died friday. Today was super saturday. My stake went bowling. She came and cried and hugged people and didn't seem as upset as I thought she would be. Then again she could be home freaking out. I really want to help her. Advice? What should I avoid? I've told her that I'm here for her and love her.

Why Preschool Shouldn't Be Like School
lizzy16 replied to MarginOfError's topic in General Discussion
It's not " traditionally public" but most use a lottery. Mine did. Any child can go to a public school but a charter school is more limited. Also, the governments money is split up differently from what I understand. I could be wrong. -

Charter schools aren't always academically based as Antatess said. I went to a charter school, I wasn't brilliant. And at the point (as I said before) my parents were having me tested for all sorts of learning disabilities. My school was based on music. Every student played the violin and was involved in music. It's ironic that I'm completely tone deaf, can't sing. But, I've got Mary had a little lame and twinkle twinkle down pat :) -
Why Preschool Shouldn't Be Like School

sorry, I kinda got going and swayed a bit off topic with this post! Still applies somewhat thought :) The school in my area still has a play kitchen. The kids I babysit play during school. I left kindergarten with very weak reading skills. My mom said I recognized few words. I learn by doing. I finally caught up to reading level in 3rd grade after my teacher helped me learn recognizing my individual learning style. A teacher can't always give such personal instruction but I went to a small charter school. I love to learn and I get good grades but many teachers don't always see my learning style. Since middle school I've taken home notes and done activities and projects that help me learn instead of notes. I don't learn well that way. When I was younger I was tested for a lot of different disabilities. Math for example, until 5th grade I couldn't grasp what multiplying was. I still don't know any of the multiplication tables. I'm not good with memorizing, I do better applying knowledge to real life. I've had a really tough educational experience. High schools been a breeze because I know how I learn. I don't know why but I've figured out how to make things make sense. (For the most part. Math is still tough because at my level you can't compare it to real life. logx19 has nothing to do with people or relationships!). And at least in my state with funding being cut students such as I aren't given the proper attention. The teachers may try but its not always adequate. In 5th grade the school stuck me in this math lab and some kind of learning style project (which they don't do anymore.) I felt like an idiot being surrounded by students who didn't know what a comma was when I was so clearly understanding such things but having difficulty grasping science and math topics. I think the education system would be improved greatly by just trying to understand how each student learns. One of my teachers gives out at the end of each unit different ways for students to learn based on our learning styles. It's fantastic! I still have no idea if theres a technical term for how I think or understand. Theres definitively something wrong with the math part of my brain. I've been through testing but nothing much came of it besides them telling me I had a problem and they weren't quite sure what it was. Overall I've had a really top notch quality education. And, I've had a rough time learning. So what about students who have problems such as I do but aren't in very good schools and don't have resources? -

You just insulted the fact I sought advice for a friend? And, insulated a man trying to turn his life around. You should probably stay away from the advice board. Usually those seeking advice don't need criticism or jokes made about them.
-
That was rude. From his post its obvious he's trying.

No idea. I'm just concerned and feeling like I can't do anything. I always kinda feel like I should help...i know its wrong.

I haven't talked to him in 3 years. I went to check and see how he was and heard about all of this from his parents and from his myspace. I can't exactly slap him even if he was here..

Was this an appropriate lesson? Or was the teacher out of bounds?

Observe someone else pray. I just feel like if there was an Islamic person in the room doing a 'rehearsal' of a sacred prayer would offend them. Personally I see it as very disrespectfull. -
In the 9th grade AP World class they're learning about Muslims and Islamic religions.. A friend just told me the teacher printed a prayer out, got a prayer rug and asked for a volunteer to show an example. This bugs me for two reasons. 1) Its disrespecting for the Islamic religion...what if the teacher asked for a guy to demonstrate the sacrament or baptismal prayer ? 2) The teacher shouldn't be asking kids to pray in school....It's against the whole secular thing. Its really bugging me. Would I be out of place to report this?

Does anyone here understand logs, ln and all that stuff? I'm a bit lost..and while I have no specific questions those who are confident in this could perhaps let me know so over the next week I could ask for help if I need claryfying? I'm lost and I don't have the time to stay after and none of my peers really understand it either.

I sent it back. Just suggestions. I made corrections in (brackets) so you could see the mistakes and I made a few comments that you'll need to fix yourself (citation issues.) You used the word "I" a lot. I've been taught never to use that but if the teachers okay with it for your class forget those comments. And, if hes not okay with'I" and you need further help rewording your concluding paragraph let me know :)
-
okay, i'm working on it now :)
-
I can :) English teacher in the making :)

I have no idea..but do you (or anyone else) have any knowledge of logs? and log functions? for my High School trig class?
-
Its not that I want this guy in trouble. His family knows what hes doing and his mom is very hurt and worried about him. I guess as his childhood friend I feel like I should do something.
