  1. I've had several experiences in which I could feel a direct, external "something", that I knew was the holy ghost. A while ago, I was sitting in church and they were going to do the confirmation for somebody who was just baptized. They said the prayer, and right when they said "recieve the holy ghost." I felt this spiritual energy sweep through the room, through me, as if it was rushing into that person. It was a miraculous thing to me... as I've never felt it that strongly before. Also, about a month ago... I was reading all this good stuff online, scriptures and such, and I was feeling "the spirit" very strongly... and then I got up after I turned off the computer and hit my hand on the edge of the table on accident, swore out of frustration and pain, and I immediately felt it leave. The feeling didn't just stop, I felt it withdraw from me because of what I said. This is how I know the holy ghost is not just something in our head... It's something that can come and go, visit and comfort, relay information to us, and work wonders.
  2. We use the King James version because it is the most accurate, but even then there are some errors in translation which were corrected through inspiration given to Joseph Smith by the power of the holy ghost. There is no "joseph smith version", but there are portions of the bible which are clarified. We do teach from the "fully accurate and restored bible", in the sense that we use all forms of scripture available to us... from written scripture to words of past prophets of our church (which are also considered scripture). Think about it this way: If you take away all of the names of everything... forgetting that it's called "the bible" and the "book of mormon" and just look at the meat of it... you have the complete revealed doctrine of God's restored church on this earth. There are many, many records that haven't been revealed to us, but there is a reason why this is so. If you want to learn about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, do not google-search it. Go to the source, and maybe start by reading the Book of Mormon. If you read, and diligently pray about whether or not it's true, and believe that you will receive an answer, you WILL get one. It can be scary going into uncharted religious territory by yourself and not really knowing where to start, so keep in touch with the missionaries! That's what they're there for, and they'll be more than glad to help. Man, I can't wait til I can serve a mission. Anyway, stay strong and follow what you feel is right! Good luck!
  3. If one has attained the highest glory, they have inherited it all: the worthiness to be in contact with every level of glory at will. This means that those in lower levels of glory could still see friends/family who are higher, but not at will. It's just as people can be visited by angels, but we can't visit angels on our own unless we have achieved that level of glory. Given that one person in a family is a murderer and the rest have achieved the highest level of glory, I'm sure they would wish to visit them out of the goodness of their souls... after all, they would be perfect.
  4. Awesome idea for a site. Maybe I'll upload my testimony when my camcorder gets fixed!
  5. Awww... there's always next time! As long as what you wear isn't immodest, then they won't care. If you wore a clown suit, you might get several stares...but they wouldn't refuse you entry (unless you were causing a distraction or something).
  6. Right now i'm reading The Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball. I love it.
  7. The "theif in the night" analogy is interesting, because if you know he's coming... and you're asleep... you can't do anything about it. We'll know when the second coming isn't going to be...until all of the signs are fulfilled... but after they're fulfilled, it's all a matter of time. However, you could die tomorrow on your way to work. Always be ready.
  8. Also, 3 1/2 years is the length of christ's ministry on this earth (correct me if i'm wrong) and he was in the tomb for 3 1/2 days. Likewise, (on an almost unrelated note) the two prophets in the future spend 3 1/2 years in the middle east, and are killed by the "beast". They would then be left in the street for 3 1/2 days before being resurrected.
  9. Awesome. It's good to see you coming back (though I don't now you personally) : )
  10. I think it's just another dumb mockery of our church, and shouldn't be given any attention. EDIT: Welcome to the forums!
  11. Awesome site. The design I liked the most was the EQ doodles... it's so true. Hhaha....I just saw "iServe." under the missionary section.
  12. I read through pretty much this whole thread....and it's very saddening ... Is there any way you could put a filter on his computer, or does he use a password that you don't know? If anybody lies about it, why not ask them if you can install a filter...and that you would be the only one with the password? Actually, they could uninstall it and then be on their way to the same old world of sin. It's so sickening. I'm a guy, just so you know. I have done bad things, and I know the severe effects of them, but I've overcome most of them and I can say that there definately is an increase of love in my relationship since then. This is probably the worst plague of our age... destroying families and souls throughout the world without any cure unless the infected willfully repent. I feel so bad for you.... ...
  13. I prayed for you two as well, not that telling you should matter though. I hope whatever the outcome he isn't disappointed.
  14. Sharyl...My wife and I will keep you and your husband in our prayers.....I hope the Spirit touches you that you may come to know the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.....when it happens you will not believe the joy and happiness it will bring you as you learn of where you came from, why you are here and where you can go....you will come to understand just how much the Lord loves you and his plan is so simple and easy to understand....everything you learn will fit into the puzzle and testify to you that the Lords church has been restored. And the day will come when you and your husband will kneel across the alter of the Temple of the Lord and be sealed for all time and eternity....what a glorious gift that really is.....God bless you on your quest....He will be with you all the way! I don't know why, but that really touched me. Thanks for that : )
  15. I too, am very thankful for that challenge. I took it, and finished it on new year's eve. It was the first time I've ever read it all the way through, even though I was born into the church. It sparked a whole new wave of spirituality in me, and helped me accomplish a lot of missionary work, as well as get back on track with my life. I'm already reading it again...and learning new things from it that I missed the first time around.
  16. Mitt Romney has done great things for Massachussetts, and the people there recognize it. There was this huge article on him (he even made the cover) of this magazine I found in the library at the university here. Anyway, it also had a poll about what percentage of people wouldn't vote for a mormon, and it turns out that 17% of the people in our country wouldn't vote for somebody only based on the fact that they're mormon. That's saddening.

  18. I frequent quite a few forums, and I had the bright idea (i'm not being sarcastic) of finding one that was LDS-focused....so after reading a lot of posts on the about.com LDS forums, I searched for a different one and found this.
