  1. Thank you very much. That answered my question. It also reminded me of the Covenants I made in the Temple, and why I wear the Garments Brother Ray
  2. I know you have to cut off all the symbols, but, that's about all I know. Is there a special procedure for disposing of the symbols once they have been cut off. Thanks Brother Ray
  3. 3. Follow the brethren. It is interesting you note that it isn't doctrine to not partake of the sacrament with your left hand, however I thought it was interesting when our Stake President spoke regarding the sacrament, he shared how all the brethren partook of the sacrament with their "right" hands, and passed the sacrament with their "right" hands. Joseph Fielding Smith talks about using the right hand in Answers to Gospel Questions. Vol1 pages 154 to 158. 4pages is too much for me to copy Especially since I am a 2 fingered typist. But here is the last paragraph The right hand or side is called the dexter, and the left the sinister Dexter connotes something favorable; sinister, something unfavorable or unfortunate. It is a well established practice in the Church to partake of the Sacrament with the right hand and also to anoint with the right hand, according to the custom which the scriptures indicate is, and always was, approved by divine injunction. I was always taught to take the Sacrament with the right hand, and after reading chapter 39 Vol.1 in Answers To Gospel Questions. I am even more resolved to use my right hand. I was confused when it was announced that it was OK to use the left hand. But I thank maybe, what they mean is all those who are unable to or have a hard time taking the Sacrament with the right hand can use the left hand, and the Sacrament will count for them just as much as for the people who use their right hand. I don't think it means to just use any hand any time. I thank we are supposed to use our Right hands if we are able to use our right hand. If not then it is OK to use our left hand Here's another quick reason for using the left hand. In Church I sit by a elderly lady, who is very frail. She has a hard time holding the trays out (especially the water)for me to use my right hand. So with my left hand I take the tray from her, take the bread or water with my right hand. OOPS! looks like I hijacked your thread. Didn't mean too. I just got carried away. I guess because I believe so strongly in using the right hand whenever you are able to use the right hand I apologize for the lengthiness of this post. Brother Ray.
  4. I went back and reread the post, and realized that that question had already been answered. But didn't know if it was a lot or a little more. Looks like it is a lot. Thanks. I wonder if we will be given the rest of the Lesser laws, before we are given the Higher laws? Have any of the rest of the laws been revealed in the Temple? (if there is any, I'm not asking you to write them down. I know better.) I'll just listen closer the next time I go to the Temple. Brother Ray
  5. This whole thing has become very confusing to me, but I will try to answer as best I can. First off I noticed that I had associated the 613 with the higher law, when it's actually part of the lesser law. I misread your post. Sorry for the confusion. Your paragraph starting with "WE don't know" That's what I was trying to find out. I guess the problem could have been the way I worded my question, again. Sorry for the confusion. I have always known the second set of tablets contained the !0 Commandments I knew nothing about higher and lesser laws. Thanks for teaching me about that, and thanks for showing me that Higher doesn't necessarily mean more commandments. Lets see if I got it right. Moses came down the first time with the Higher laws. We don't know how many there were. He saw that the people weren't ready for the Higher laws. He went back up the mountain, and brought back the 10 commandments, which were the lesser laws. Question: Do the 10 commandments consist of the entirety of the lesser laws, or are they just ten out of a lot more? Or do we even know?
  6. =Dravin;718469]Huh? Where are you getting the 613 higher law figure from? The 613 figure is a reference to the number of commandments, per Jewish reckoning, in the Law of Moses which is known to us as the lesser law.[ From your post #6 I thought commandments and laws were pretty much the same thing. I appreciate all the information you're giving me. I enjoy learning more things about the scripture. I don't quite understand everything you've posted.I will try to learn more. But. All I really asked for was a simple answer to a simple question. Were there more commandments and/or laws on the first set of tablets the Moses brought down than there were on the second? Brother Ray
  7. So the first set contained the entirety of the lower law, not the 613 higher laws. I'm remembering that the teachers said the first tablets contained all the laws. But I could be remembering wrong. They could have just said more laws then just the 10 I'm sure they were correct in what they taught me. They just didn't go into as much detail as you here at TS are. I had only been a member a few days. Maybe they thought it was too much for me to handle all at once. Are the 10 commandments the higher or lower law or a combination of both? Brother Ray
  8. Yes. That sounds like what I was taught when I first started coming to church. Back in 1967 Moses received all the commandments from God.He came down the mountain to give them to the people. When he saw what was going on, and that they had built a Golden Calf to worship. In anger he broke the tablets by throwing them to the ground. He went back up the mountain. Either he suggested to God or God told him that mankind was not ready for all the commandments. When he came back down the mountain, he had with him the 10 commandments. Brother Ray
  9. So am I correct in saying that the first time Moses came down from the mountain he had, with him a lot more than just ten commandments? Brother Ray
  10. I know it's more involved than this. But to put it simply. The higher law= a lot of commandments. The lesser law = only 10 commandments. Right?
  11. Sometimes I think back to things about the scriptures that I learned long ago, and wonder if I learned, or was taught correctly. For instance. When Moses came down with the commandments there were far more than just the 10 we have today. When he saw the Golden calf and what was going on. He smashed them to the ground in anger. He went back up the mountain, and the next time he came down it was with the 10 we know today, because we weren't yet ready for all of them. Is that right or at least close to right?. I also heard that we as Latter Day Saints have some of those other commandments. Is that true? Brother Ray
  12. I thought Jesus was the God of the old testament Now Heavenly Father Elohiem ( not sure of spelling) is our God, and Jssus is our savior and mediator between us and God. Brother Ray
  13. Oh course I don't know. But I douibt that he looks like any one race of man Brother Ray
  14. You all go ahead and argue among yourselves. I still think Jesus looked like His father, because his Fathers (God) genes were dominant over Mary's genes. To me this makes perfect sense. Brother Ray
  15. I agree with everybody that Jesus could be any color and he would still be Jesus, and I would still love and worship Him. But here's a thought. Maybe I'm way off base. Please let me know. Years ago I read an article saying that jesus had to be dark skinned, dark haired, and dark eyed. Because thats how everybody looked in the area where he was born. The first thing that came to my mind was Genes. We get our looks through our parents Genes, and also from the Genes of uncles, great Aunts, reletives in general One or the other parent has the strongest, or dominant Genes, and that is the parent you will favor. I believe Jesus looks like His Father because His Fathers (GOD) had the dominant Genes Brother Ray
  16. Are you saying that it contains purposely false information, written by a member of the church? If that's the case then it is garbage. I would have thought that Deseret Bookstore would do a better job of screening the books they sale.. Are Deseret Bookstores owned by the church, or arew thay just allowed or contreacted to sale LDS materials? Brother Ray
  17. So Lynn M. Hilton is saying that there actually is a place ( perhaps a planet) called Kolob?
  18. I see. that makes good sense. Brother Ray
  19. Then does it have to do with how fast a planet rotates ?
  20. That's funny. How come we no longer have a Laugh button, along with the Quote, and Thanks button?
  21. No I wasn't joking. Is my statement so foolish that it sounds like a joke? ( this could be taken as a smart remark. Please believe me that's not how I meant it.)
  22. Welp. The anti Mormons sure had me fooled. I thought Kolob was actually a planet so large that it took 1000 year for one revolution, or day. which was the reason Gods time is so much longer than our time. Brother ray
  23. I remember when I first came back to church, after 30 years, that they had taken "Come Thou Fount" out of the Hymn books. I was really disappointed, because it was my favorite Hymn. (still is.) Also I could sing it without getting off key too often. So I agree that getting " Come Thou Fount" back in the Hymn book would be great. But I think we should have both. Brother Ray
  24. Thanks. I guess Tinyspell couldn't help, because my spelling was so far off that it didn't know what word I was going for.
  25. So when the Dane was being a couch potato where did everyone else sit? LOL
