  1. No, that would be reasonable, Moksha. A woman whose boyfriend or husband abuses her children should NOT stay with him.
  2. Constitutional issue: Amendment 1. "Deseret News | FLDS women's lawyers seek return of children "When asked whether [CPS agent] Voss would consider allowing mothers to stay with their children if they agreed to leave the ranch, she said it wouldn't be acceptable unless they disavowed their belief, according to the petition." They have to DISAVOW their belief of what? polygamy? modern day prophets? that a woman’s highest calling is to be a wife and mother? that the husband is the leader of the home? that marriage can be eternal? Book of Mormon is true? personal revelation? Anything that doesn’t agree with the Southern Baptists? that the Bible is holy scripture? in Jesus Christ, our Saviour? in Heavenly Father? What would you do if you had to make that choice? There is a lot of hysteria out there on the internet, but two blogs I have found to be enlightening and logical are: The Common Room, and Grits For Breakfast. I encourage all to read, all to think, all to pray, and all to act as their conscience dictates.
  3. The simple solution is to not access this site while you are at work. Does it matter what is behind it? If you are paid by the hour, and you have unfinished work to do, you are stealing your employer's time if you are accessing personal websites at work, including retrieving your personal email. If all work is completed, and your employer knows it, and he is paying you to sit at your desk and do nothing productive, then it is perfectly okay to access personal websites at work. Or you could solve a crossword puzzle, or read a book, or make personal phone calls, or knit. However, if you are paid by project completion, that is a different matter. Then you are stealing from yourself, as you are delaying completion of your task and compensation for your family's support. :)

  5. It is SO easy to fall into that shopping list habit, too! Yes, I too need to start my day with a prayer that says "What do you want me to do today?" instead of "I need to do this and this and this - will you help me get these things done?" Thanks, Willow.
  6. When I don't pay tithing I have ten percent more money. Then I get an unexpected bill. And that 10% (or more) is gone. I'd rather give it the Lord.
  7. Nope, broil them instead: Cooking Recipes for Goat Meat Cabrito al Pator (Broiled Kid) 2 Kids [baby goats], 6 1/2 to -8 1/2 lbs each 3 tb Salt 1 c Mild vinegar For the garnish: 2 c Guacamole (recipe -separately) 3 tb White onion, chopped 1 c Tomato, finely chopped 3 tb Cilantro, finely chopped 3 tb Chiles serranos, finely -chopped 1 Recipe Frijoles de Olla, -mashed (recipe separately) 1 1/2 c Mozzarella OR Monterey Jack -cheese, freshly grated 16 Totopos (crisply fried -tortilla wedges) For the kid: Put kids in a large stockpot, and cover with water. Add salt and vinegar. Set aside for 2 hours. Meanwhile, build a pile of mesquite wood on the ground, and burn down to white coals. Remove kids from water and thread on spits. Arrange over the hot coals, and roast for 2 to 3 hours, depending on the kids' weight, basting occasionally with a little salted water. Turn spits continuously so that the meat cooks evenly, or use a rotisserie. Add more white coals if necessary. To serve, cut kid in pieces, and place on plates. Garnish with guacamole, onion, tomato, cilatro, and chiles. Serve withj Frijoles de Olla sprinkled with cheese, totopos, and Pico de Gallo sauce. The kid may be shredded and used in fried tacos. Makes 8 servings
  8. Have you tried to identify what started him feeling scared? If I remember this age bracket right, this is around the period of time when toddlers start to realize they are truly an individual apart from their mom, and it may be normal period of separation anxiety. . . but, if he has seen or heard something on tv or a movie, such as a child being taken from its parents, or something bad happening in the dark, or a bad storm occurring, it may be triggering the fear. Each child it seems has a period like this; I found a bit of success in talking with the child at lunchtime or any quiet time during the daytime, when they are not scared, about things that make me feel scared, what makes you feel scared? - rather than trying to identify the cause at night when they are too scared to go to bed, when they are too panicky to get the words out. Good luck, and hope this works through quickly!
  9. Years ago, I heard unsubstantiated rumors of an area of extremely high numbers of human bones being found during excavation for an early highway project in New York State. I never found any evidence; if so, the remains were not reported as a historical find, presumably as the discovery probably would have put a stop to the road construction. The general impression I got was that this took place in the 1920's or 1930's, and possibly involved WPA works during the Great Depression. Probably urban or church legend, but I thought I would just throw it into the mix.
  10. Spray paint the number 10 cans in your favorite decorator colors. (Remember to mark them somehow as to their contents) You can make shelves using lumber and these painted cans as shelf supports and organize your books, toys, dvd's etc, at the same time. It's so chic! You can stack them two high, hot glue them at the rims, make a solid rectangle of them, top with a plexiglass sheet and voila! a unique "coffee" table for your living room, or make a taller tower and make a crafts desk, computer table, whatever. You can take a wheat barrel and top it with a plywood circle and floor length tablecloth for a nice lamp table (matching, of course!) one at each end of the sofa. Hmmmm, drumming my fingers on the table . . . . what would Martha (Stewart) do?
  11. If you have moved into your in-laws' basement apartment, and you are going to be there for a while, and you are attending your in-laws' ward, that is exactly where you should be attending. I don't see the claim your old ward is taking, if you don't live there anymore. You should be able to take your current TR's and go see the bishop in your new (in-laws' ) ward. puzzled. . . .
  12. I do not think you are wrong at all, The Traveler.
  13. To prevent 50 year old men from making marriage-minded acquaintances with very young women?
  14. It is nearly the end of April, and our temple won't have the new program up and running until "maybe" June! patience, patience, patience. . . . .
  15. aw, puf, youve got me crying over here. cut it out. Heaven would have me sitting at a desk in the file room in the basement of the administration building filling in all the family tree blank spaces for everyone and consequently having ALL of my family around! Hell would be someplace eternally cold and icy like Siberia. brrrr. Or not being able to sleep. hmm. Maybe not be permitted to sleep in a really really cold place. That would be it.
  16. You sound like a great teacher, mightynancy! Thank you!
  17. WHAT???!!! You mean Sgallan is Still HERE????? (Sorry sgallan!) Moksha, you are so funny.
  18. Grossly underestimated. This mom/grand is worth at least 5 million.
  19. I think the government is grossly overreacting. No, I am not in favor of underage girls being put in the position of being forced to be a polygamous bride. It seems to me that more steps could have taken to identify the initial caller, and to have a calmer and slower paced investigation on the grounds. The legal authorities could have at the very least left all the children under the age of 13 at home with their moms in their own familiar surroundings. I highly doubt that even within this group that there were "marriages" of anyone under the age of 13. With a little patience, even with an uncooperative mood of this community, the truth could have been had and arrests could have been made.
  20. MorningStar, I hope you got through it ok. It is 3:30 a.m. my time:whoa: and I just printed out the last page of my tax returns. Finally. I used to always wait until the last minute, when my forms were simpler. Our large city had a drive-thru set up in the post office parking lot, and it was a party - the mail carriers would take your envelope, ensure it had the right amount of postage and stamp it with the cancellation date of 04-15 right there in front of you. Then life got more complicated and I nearly always was organized enough to get my taxes done by the end of March at the very latest. This past year was different. Fraught with challenges from the beginning of 2007, it was difficult to keep up with the basic daily bookkeeping my life demands. I have been working diligently at catching up during this whole first quarter of 2008, and now, I can finally rest easy. . . maybe. I sure hope all those numbers are right.
  21. Six, sounds like he is talking about the Indexing program: FamilySearch Indexing: Preserving Our Heritage This is a separate project from the new FamilySearch program, which is a collection of family tree/records/genealogies. Indexing is providing a source for researching existing records that have been microfilmed and digitized - in essence, providing an alternative and eventual replacement to ordering microfilms from SLC to your local Family History Center. If you have 20 to 30 minutes to spare a day or every other day, why not give it a go?
  22. Wheat. I want to roll around a barrel of wheat and pay for everything with wheat. Other people could use rice. Someone else can use tomato (fresh or home-canned products.) But as for myself, I would be a milliionaire with wheat. I supposed that falls into the FACT category.
  23. If you carry the baby high and round out front like a basketball, it is supposed to be a boy. If lower, and more towards the back, it is supposed to be a girl. However, you won't be able to tell this until you are about 6 or 7 months. Most people have the ultrasound well before then!
  24. I don't think anyone has said that only bad things will happen if you don't pay tithing; or that good things will happen only if you do pay tithing. Tithing is a matter of faith, and it is voluntary, and it is between you and the Lord. But, my personal advice is (if you haven't spent that extra 2 weeks income yet): If you take that extra 2 weeks income, and pay it against your smallest debt you will soon have that debt paid off. Anytime you have extra quid or euro or dollar (or whatever your monetary unit is), put it against that debt. If you make any choice that saves you money (to eat out or at home, to rent a movie or read a book from the free library), put it in a jar and at the end of the week, pay it against that smallest debt. Once you have that smallest debt paid off, take the monthly payment and add it to the regular monthly payment of your next smallest debt. If you follow this principle while paying your other regular monthly payments, you will eventually be totally out of debt. Good luck to you!
