  1. Skalen Gets it. The gospel of Jesus Christ, or the Doctrine of Christ includes baptism by water, by fire and the holy ghost, gift of the holy ghost, and all the ordinances. Teh fulness of the gospel is to converse with the Lord through the veil. This is just what is required to receive the fulness, does not mean our progression is finished. D&C 76 shows Joseph Smith receive a fulness. It Jesus Christ Himself to re-ascend back to God. I think Skalen used the word "heard the voice" above in JST Gen. That is how the fulness is received. As Joseph Smith said, this priesthood is not given by descent of man but by God Himself. This is the spirit of Elijah, that we redeem our dead, and connect ourselves with our fathers which are in heaven, and seal up our dead to come forth in the first resurrection; and here we want the power of Elijah to seal those who dwell on earth to those who dwell in heaven. History of the Church, 6:252. (also here) And behold, the heavens were opened, and they were caught up into heaven, and saw and heard unspeakable things. And it was forbidden them that they should utter; neither was it given unto them power that they could utter the things which they saw and heard; ( 3 Nephi 28:13-14)
  2. You are asking how I view this phrase. The Church of the Firstborn is the only true church. Neither do I believe an organization or or an insitution is the kingdom of God. In context. You cannot see the kingdom of God and why is that? Because its within each person that receives it. The lord warns us to not look anywhere that makes this claim below. You cannot see it because "the church" is each person that communes with the general assembly of God or the pure in heart.
  3. Even if you believe Hinkcley was referring directly to the blood moons... many prophecies have multiple fulfillment. Anyways I think Avraham gileadi got it right. http://josephandjudah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=77:turning-the-hearts-of-the-jews-to-the-prophets-and-the-prophets-to-the-jews&catid=5:viewpoints&Itemid=12 Titled: “Turning the Hearts of the Jews to the Prophets and the Prophets to the Jews” Which comes from this verse..
  4. This was not the case prior to the 1890's. Lots of things changed during this time period. It was meant to be an independent organization above all other creatures. Priesthood is NOT given to control. D&C 124:41. Here is what Joseph said. *Moderator edit* This portion deleted. This is something that should not be discussed outside of the temple.
  5. The church just donated 1.5 million to help build a new museum. http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/church-provides-gift-to-new-american-revolution-museum I wonder if this is close to the 32 story building they are building in Philadelphia and the new temple. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=1284&sid=28726825
  6. I for one dress down for some of the very reasons others have brought up here. The judgment we meet against others the same will be given back at the day of judgment. The book of Mormon truly testifies against us. Alma 32,
  7. QuoteAnd so, most missed the glory of following the actual Son of God--in the flesh! They missed the chance to walk with, commune with, learn from, gain strength from, and be saved by Jesus--God in the flesh. Beautiful! So it is even with many LDS. They miss the chance to walk with, commune with, learn from... Jesus Christ. They believe we have one that speaks to us for Him and we do not need to converse with, seek after His face, and receive him face to face. I have heard it talk many times we do not need to see Him or seek after him and it is enough to see Him in the world around us. That if we need something we have a prophet that speaks to us, thus we fall into the same trap as the people with Moses who prayed that Moses would speak to them for God instead of going up on the mountain themselves to do the "heavy lifting", and they were cursed for it (TPJS). D&C 101:38 And seek the face of the Lord always, that in patience ye may possess your souls, and ye shall have eternal life. I really enjoyed what you wrote. They certainly had many problems with possession and its really bad today as well.
  8. May I offer a different definition? Most Keys have little to do with administration (if any). Lets read the D&C verses. I will focus on a certain type of keys. There are different types. D&C 128:21 says the following. 21 And again, the voice of God in the chamber of old Father Whitmer, in Fayette, Seneca county, and at sundry times, and in divers places through all the travels and tribulations of this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! And the voice of Michael, the archangel; the voice of Gabriel, and of Raphael, and of diversangels, from Michael or Adam down to the present time, all declaring their dispensation, their rights, their keys, their honors, their majesty and glory, and the power of their priesthood; giving line upon line, precept upon precept; here a little, and there a little; giving us consolation by holding forth that which is to come, confirming our hope! See how all these terms are different? if keys are administration than how do you declare them? All these men declare their keys, whatever they are so we should be able to know what they are. Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. (Luke 11:52) And this greater priesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God. (D&C 84:19) 1 May 1842 (Sunday Morning). Grove.Manuscript History of the Churchpages 119 - 120 I preached in the grove on the keys of the Kingdom, Charity &c The keys are certain signs and words by which false spirits and personages may be detected from true, which cannot be revealed to the Elders till the Temple is completed —The rich can only get them in the Temple—the poor may get them on the Mountain top as did Moses. The rich cannot be saved without Charity, giving to feed the poor when and how God requires as well as building. There are signs in heaven, earth, and hell, the Elders must know them all to be endowed with power, to finish their work and prevent imposition. The devil knows many signs but does not know the sign of the Son of Man, or Jesus. No one can truly say he knows God {7} until he has handled something, and this can only be in the Holiest of Holies. See how this relates with the key of the mysteries of the kingdom? The sacrifice required of Abraham in the offering up of Isaac, shows that if a man would attain to the keys of the kingdom of an endless life; he must sacrifice all things. When God offers a blessing or knowledge to a man, and he refuses to receive it, he will be damned. The Israelites prayed that God would speak to Moses and not to them; in consequence of which he cursed them with a carnal law. (History of the Church, (5:554-556) I would invite you to read the Sermon at the grove and ask yourself this question as you do. Where did Jesus get \\\\\\\\"his keys\\\\\\\\" and How did he get them? Joseph clearly defines keys. Not only that he "declares" something specific.
  9. When Nephi saw a vision of the savior and his life mission he said something like Behold the Condescension of God. Its worth pondering. Celestial Beings, ask yourself what does Jesus Christ do? What does Heavenly father do right now? What is their work? What is their Glory? (hint moses 1:39) How do they do this work? Who works in the vineyard (Jacob 5)? How do they work in the vineyard? How do they bring about Glory? Ss one world passes away... a new one shall come forth. His creations are without end. QuoteQuote I believe those Gods that God reveals as Gods to be sons of God,6 and all can cry, “Abba, Father!”7 Sons of God who exalt themselves to be Gods, even frombefore the foundation of the world,8 and are the only Gods I have a reverence for. (TPJS 375) (http://scriptures.byu.edu/tpjs/TPJS.375.pdf) In the lectures on Faith it says a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never will allow us to have the faith necessary to lay hold upon eternal life. Why is that? Because Eternal Beings Sacrifice for those whom they love.
  10. Nothing. Get married civilly publicly or privately in the temple its all the same. (unless you meant "sealings") Joseph Smith and the early saints got married outside the temple. This was part of hte doctrine and covenants until removed during Brigham Young presidency. Read it here. Times and Seasons Vol 3 :: Nineteenth Century Mormon Publications
  11. You do not have to have "aaronic priesthood" to have angels minister. They are only associated with the ORDER of the Aaronic Priesthood. Both male and female may experience these messengers. Moroni 7 This is their mission to increase Faith. There are two things required. The word "keys" in that scripture in the OP is used as "knowledge". So why is it associated with "Aaron"? Three orders Order of the angels (Sons of Aaron, Aarnoic, angels minister or "ministry of angels") Order of the Son (Sons of Moses, Than Christ ministers) Order of the Father (Sons of man, Than he presents you to the Father and they take up their abode with you) Angels speak by the power of the holy Ghost. Last lecture of the Lectures on Faith states.
  12. I will never fold my arms in prayer again if I can help it. Folding the arms cuts off spiritual energy. Look to the Book of Mormon, it teaches the proper way to worship. I also raise my head up, not down. For the scriptures tell us to "look up" not down. Why not even standing?
  13. First a few scriptures. Here are some spiritual experiences in the scriptures. Alma the younger and the sons of mosiah testifies of the angels he and those with him had seen to testify of Jesus Christ to the members who were not there. Including later to the wicked lamanites. The multitude who saw the angels descend when alma and amulek preached among the people testify what they had seen to testify of Jesus Christ to the people who were not there. The multitude who saw Christ testify they have seen Him to the people who were not there. Christs disciples in Jerusalem testify they have seen Him. That which is forbidden. Things that are "received through the veil". Except at a proper place. I will share a simple, short dream I have had. Probably won't mean too much to others but it was a direct answer to a question I had been praying about for months. So here is my testimony that we can ask for the gift of dreams and the Lord will bestow it. We also are asked to record them or we will usually forget them (if not done immeditately) or the talents will be taken away. I have had to relearn this gift because I have failed to do this in my life. Many people feel that if we accept one thing we have to reject something else but that is not always the case. Or if we find out something is not true, the rest of it must be entirely false. Again not always the case. There are truths and false truths in everything in this world.
  14. Thanks. Very concise. It seems to me "this gospel" is a name. The abraham scripture states "for as many as receive this Gospel shall be called after thy name," (Christs name) The Gospel was the Word The Word was the Son The Son was with God The Son was of God "this gospel" IS Jesus Christ (The Son).
  15. The thread on second coming guesses got me thinking about this question. What is "this gospel" as mentioned through out scriptures. The title page of the book of Mormon states as its purpose. Without these covenants we will be cast off. These covenants are associated with many terms in the Book of Mormon. "this gospel" seems to be one term associated with this. What is IT?
  16. True repentance comes about not from stopping something but from starting something. Instead of focusing on what we are NOT doing, we focus on gaining further light and truth. When we replace our beliefs that are incorrect with light and truth (doctrine) our souls are changed and we become more like Christ until the perfect day. By doing this our disposition to do evil vanishes and we begin to see our brother and sisters as they really are. Than we begin to be able to love them despite all manner of persecutions that may come against us. How did Christ forgive the people despite being beaten, tortured, and killed? He loved them. He finally fully understood from Gethsemane what was required that he could succor them in their infirmities, afflictions, sins, and all other manner of ignorance. One way I have found for myself is praying to the Father to show what it is you lack or ask Him to bestow charity upon you. By doing this the Lord can give you what you need. For me I was shown all the things I was doing wrong myself and by seeing those things I could have greater sympathy for others even in their ignorance. Have you prayed about this to see what the Lord thinks of the situation you are in?
  17. The most important part of fasting. Isaiah is giving us a key here. It is not a day to afflict your soul. There are some that think, well "i did not hunger" I did not suffer enough so it wasn't a true fast. The scriptures state fasting goes along with rejoicing! This is how to make our fasts acceptable before Him. I have learned that the benefits of fasting come when we personally do what Isaiah has stated a true fast is about. Its a day to serve our brothers and sisters.
