I'm a very technical guy. I figured my children would also have similar traits. Most of them do (as far as natural talent and ability). But they simply didn't have any interest in it. I had tried talking to my kids about math and science. I told them of all the advantages and what you could do with it. I talked of great experiences I had.I talked of career choices... blah blah blah. The thing that finally worked was when I had them go through the process with me, and they saw the joy I got out of it. They felt the same joy through me. Now they are all excited about becoming engineers as well. Not all of them responded this way. Those that did not have a natural affinity for it found no joy in it no matter what I did. For those, we go the Alma route. We do all we can, and we fast & pray like crazy.

They weren't Orthodox, to start. Both clearly proclaimed "reformed Jew" status. Both went to public school instead of a Yeshiva. The younger one talked about "Hebrew school." It seemed somewhat similar to our "seminary." But we never really talked in too much detail. The older one didn't talk about any such supplementary education, and I didn't ask. But he seemed very well versed in his religion, and was fluent in Hebrew. I asked the older one about the phrase "Abraham's Bosom.: He said it was just a figure of speech. I asked about the existence of God kinda implying an afterlife. He only said that the Law of Moses simply means that it's a good way to live and God will watch out for you if you obey it. There's nothing in the Law of Moses that says we'll be received into any type of afterlife at all. So, the entire faith revolves around this life. K... The other one was much younger (so was I). He didn't have a great grasp of it. And I didn't understand enough about Jewish theology to be able to ask him intelligent questions. So, sorry, I can't give you any more insight. I simply didn't have enough tools to delve into it at the time I had Jewish friends. TBH, I don't think I know any Jews in my circle of friends today. I'm just relating what two Jews told me.

I don't know much about the Philippines, so I can't address the rest of your post. I'll take your word for it. But for this ^ ^ part. About the only place that Nationalism and Racism are not closely related (not synonymous, related) is in the US. We have MANY people of all races who love America and are still willing to say with conviction that America is the greatest nation on earth. And the vast majority of them don't care what race you are. They care if you truly believe in the phenomenon that is America. And if you don't believe in that principle, then you're "not one of us." I don't know how many people actually say that. But on some level that is the belief. It's not about race. It's about belief. That's the US. (I'm not saying racism doesn't exist. I'm saying that nationalism is different here than it is in other countries). In nations where the racial makeup is almost monolithic, it is difficult to separate the two. And in practice, they are often not separated. Mixed race children (granted, this is 20 year old information) in Korea, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Laos, & Japan were treated as second class citizens -- even though they were full citizens. This was most obvious if the other race was not an Asian race. Some kids who were half Korean and half Japanese were treated poorly in either nation once they were found out -- even if they were friends before such revelation. This was from Asians I grew up with from all these countries. One of them was a Lao girl I went to prom with in high school. She said that is how she was treated because she was half Caucasian. She was still met with racism in America (that was a long time ago). But it was much better than it was in Laos.

I haven't actually spoken with a Jew about theology in over 20 years. But the last time I did, he said the debate was not settled. The last time before that was about 15 or 20 years earlier. This one said that it depends on the rabbi. So, unless something has happened in the past 20 years (which could certainly be) the matter is not settled in Jewish circles.

Honestly, I was doing searches for what he actually said. But I couldn't find anything. I could only find the criticisms of him going to a church to hold up a Bible. I heard the bishops of that church condemn him for saying things that were "antithetical to Biblical teachings." But I couldn't find what the freak he said. There's unbiased media for you.

Before refrigerators were invented, our grandparents only had an "icebox". It held a place in their homes that was very similar to how we think of the refrigerator/freezer. They would periodically pick up fresh ice to replenish the cold. The places nearest the ice were for freezing stuff. Places farther from the ice was for refrigerated stuff. As a child, I didn't know how an "icebox" worked. It was difficult for me to fathom why they used the term "icebox" to refer to both the refrigerator and the freezer. So I just had to take it by context. "Put the milk in the icebox," meant refrigerator. "Put the ice cream in the icebox," meant freezer. But you are correct, today's meaning of icebox is indeed what we call a cooler. However, I'd have to look at the origin of the term "Icebox Watermelon" to determine if it referred to a cooler or a refrigerator. Either way, I believe it had to do with the size of the melon rather than the function of the icebox.

I agree with PC. Even if you throw in all the conservative political issues, the most important issue to conservative Christians that trumps (forgive the intended double meaning) all other issues is religious freedom. So, consider these points: Democrats, for all their rhetoric about freedom and their individual claims of faith and Biblical reverence, they will always chomp at the bit to support legislation, regulation, and judicial rulings that curtail religious freedom for conservative Christians. Trump, the adulterous, womanizing, cussing, bullying, immoral, depraved, a-religious President has done his best to support religious freedom for the conservative Christian. What do you expect us to do?

Fair enough. Hey! Look at that. There were two groups of people out there that we currently know of: 1) People wanting justice for Floyd. Most of them were peaceful, wanting a peaceful protest. 2) Agitators just wanting to destroy and loot. It is the second category that he was describing. It was the second category that was NOT with the people protesting racial bigotry. They were simple anarchists. Even I want to make that clear. Why wouldn't the President? This is all about bias, isn't it? When Obama says things to incite racial divides, then softens it with disclaimers like "most police are good honest people trying to do the right thing..." it is easy to focus on one side without admitting that the other statements were actually said. Likewise Trump says some things that can easily be taken as racist. But he tends to have enough statements in the body of his public words that shows he's not. Which side are you going to listen to? Most people will hear both sides, but react with their gut and decide which was the THRUST of the words. In the end, bias will decide, not facts. That's what dog whistles are about, reinforcing your own biases. That's actually very mature of you to admit that. I also admit my own biases. But I really try to see the other side when I can. I see your point here. But you may be more wrong than right. I don't know of ANY conservative who jumped over to Obama's side. I do know of many who were disappointed in him and did not vote for him the 2nd time. Trump has not only won over many never-Trumpers, but he's also winning over lifetime Democrat voters. He has really reached out to the black voter in policies, legislation, and political outreach. And many of them are responding positively. No one can get 100%. Nowadays, not even close. But Trump has been quite impressive in winning people over that absolutely hated him before.

What is the basis for your opinion? First resolution? Really? I think this is the way most liberals think of anyone who is pro-2A. But let me educate you on the actual philosophy so you don't mistake what we believe. Consider the presence of nuclear weapons. When was the last time a nuclear bomb was used in active warfare? Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Yet we still have them. And as other nations get more and more powerful, they also obtain nuclear weapons capability -- even though they're never used. If we never use them why bother having them? Because that's something that everyone is afraid of being on the delivering end or the receiving end of. That threat keeps nations more polite and willing to avoid outright war. That's why we've had relative peace on the planet for about 75 years. Thus the famous line from "Sum of all Fears":

1) Barr stated that they "have intelligence" that it was mostly far left groups like ANTIFA. Say what you will about Trump, but I tend to trust Barr when it comes to being even-handed politically. 2) Trump did not say there weren't any. He said he didn't see any indication (evidence) of it. OK, now you're guilty of the same thing you're accusing Trump of. What evidence do you have that they WERE there? Speculation? Why so quick to blame it on the alt-right? Don't become the thing you hate.
