  1. Dude that is so cool. I met a relative of Bruce McKonkie (sp?) once, but I didn’t know who he was at the time-it was a little awkward.
  2. Oh, agree. She’s got a mega problem with this though. Law and order types seldom vote democrat, and the base of the party is deeply troubled by this. They won’t vote for Trump (though some might), but they will stay home. It’s similar to if a Republican nominee worked for Planned Parenthood in their younger years. Just the stench of association is enough to cause serious problems.
  3. He’s running against a corrupt prosecutor who has a thing for throwing young black men in jail for “crimes” that seem absurd in 2024. Not a cop.
  4. I’ll bet you 50$ you can find MAGA supporters who believe this actually happened. You know, people like @Phoenix_person. 😉
  5. https://nypost.com/2024/07/21/us-news/biden-drops-out-of-presidential-race-after-disastrous-debate-performance/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=pasteboard_app Biden just dropped out.
  6. All the democrats have to do is run someone who doesn’t view going out after 6PM as having a “late night” and they’ll almost certainly win. Moderates are basically begging them to do that.
  7. I totally agree with you. One of my closest friends is a hard left liberal. Known him for 25 years now. He can’t stand her because of her past a prosecutor and how she’d “lock up anyone for anything then demand criminal justice reform.” his words, not mine. @Phoenix_person-your thoughts? Do you basically agree with my friend or do you see it differently?
  8. I usually vote for the GOP as the lesser evil as well. Republicans lie about shrinking government. Democrats lie about being anti war then when a Democrat is in office they want to bomb the world. I’ll take the liars about the size of government over the liars about killing people. Republicans also no longer claim the moral high ground (you can’t with Trump as a nominee) but democrats seem to think they are better then everyone else.
  9. And he’s back, thank God.
  10. Calls for unity in religion are also pointless. Are Catholics going to “unite” with protestants and tell the pope he’s no longer needed? Nope. The reverse is also true of course
  11. In politics, all calls for unity are inherently flawed. They mean “unite under my values and ignore yours.” If a pro gun control politician calls for “unity” he’s asking you to roll over and play dead. Same with our side.
  12. Update on my friend
  13. No snarky comment from me. I pray for his healing. Politics is secondary. I will always try to put my presidents health before them.
  14. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/humiliating-photo-shows-boris-johnson-33254064 Uk lurkers-yikes.
  15. I think body cams are something both sides can say is a good thing. Not only did it show the good side of cops and the pressures you guys have, it exposed the 1% of bad ones.
  16. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/rnc-republican-national-convention-07-15-24/index.html It is Vance.
  17. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalist_peace It’s a real thing. I freely admit the McDonalds Principle argument is an oversimplification. I highly doubt anyone here wants to hear a long, useless rant by @LDSGator on why capitalism is inherently peaceful though.
  18. Agree there, but I still don’t see it happening. Could it happen? Sure, but the odds are much smaller than we think. War requires sacrifice and will affect everyone. 50% of people in America don’t even vote-but they work and eat. The moment we walk the line to a civil war these people absolutely will vote and have their voices heard. There are many, many other reasons why I’m highly skeptical it’ll happen. Two countries with McDonalds seldom go to war because people would rather be free than kill one another. Most Americans don’t have the bloodlust required to kill their brothers in 2024. And that’s called progress.
  19. I do think you are right that his hardcore followers view him as a holy being. Because a thrice married man who cheated on all of them and has the temper of a angry toddler is the first person I think of when I think of “holy”. I don’t see many LDS doing it because they have this thing called “morality”.
  20. Our nation survived a civil war, two world wars, a great depression, 9/11, Covid, the song “Mmm mmm mmm mmm” and Jan 6th. We’ll be fine with Jan 6 2.0, but I pray it never happens.
  21. Understand. The bases control the parties for the most part. I have not reached that phase in life where I think everyone who gets elected and disagrees with me is demonic or evil. Even politicians I personally can’t stand (AOC, Lauren Boebert) I view as misguided, not evil.
  22. We agree totally there. It’s certainly not illegal but it makes me very uncomfortable. It’s also a bit weird. 99% of churches out there will be thrilled just to give you a bible.
  23. And all this time I pegged you as a Bernie supporter. 😉
  24. Forgot one more thing: Those on the hard left/hard right always view themselves as incredibly decent, and more importantly, they view the other guys are Ungodly evil. When you do that, you place yourself on a higher level than the other side. So you don’t have to ask yourself tough questions when you are debating people who you think are demonic.
  25. Very noble of you, but that proves my point. Do you think the people on the right who blame the left for everything have the ability to be self reflexive and ask if they are the problem? Of course not. And here’s why: When they read this post, their first reaction will be to say “Tim, now say that about the left! They are horrible people too! Ha ha! I win! Ha ha ha ha.” And they’ll move on. that’s the problem right there
