  1. I think this is a perfect example of what Christians can do when we live our faith and work together.
  2. One of the biggest challenges for the Church is making sure that our priesthood quorums are strong. What do you think you can do to help make your quorum stronger. Each quorum is unique so Im sure there are some more unique situations and some more generalized. I dont think we fully utilize the quorums the way we could. So let's get a discussion going.
  3. The Book of Mormon took place in: 1)Jerusalem 2)The land of Lehi-Nephi 3)The land of Zarahemla 4)The land of Bountiful 5)The land northward
  4. You forget yourself and go to work.
  5. I can't imagine the nation breaking up without a strong LDS presence being felt in the west. I don't expect us to break up anyway. Although we do have a civil war coming in the future.
  6. The most important thing to do is show them that you care.
  7. You could always have a friend set things up. Then you won't have to be afraid to start things.
  8. All I can say is when you experience it, you'll know. It's like being wrapped in power, love, and glory.
  9. you'll have several months to prepare dont expect to get out fast.
  10. It means we are supposed to encourage, argue, advocate in favor of the faith, against sin and provide warnings against the dangerous of rejecting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  11. I wanted to answer the tithing question. Tithing is paid by faith. You do what you can to make do while paying a tithe and if there are problems, then God has promised you He will prove Himself if you pay tithing. And the blessings are worth more than 10%.
  12. I'm not sure I'd be too concerned if I was in the same situation. I think it's rather natural for siblings to have similiar promises. I've seen similiar promises in my siblings blessings. But for the most part they are completely different. What really impresses me is that a complete stranger can tell me specific details about my life that even I didn't recognize at the time and really held no significance until years later.
  13. You got to show the people you care. Otherwise it doesnt matter what you say.
  14. The Lord commanded many men to leave their families to preach the Gospel at the beginning of this dispensation. The same Lord commanded Abraham to Sacrifice His Son Isaac to show His Faith. The Same Lord gave His own Son for a sacrifice for our sins. If commanding all worthy young men to go on a mission is cruel, then I thank God for being cruel. However, I don't believe your story. Simply because if what your saying is true, it would be obvious to just about everyone and no one would be pressuring or even encouraging him to go on a mission because he couldnt even if he tried.
  15. The Lord has commanded every young man to be worthy and serve a mission. Not everyone follows this command. but it still is a command. And I am not going to pretend as though it's not for everyone when the Lord wouldnt provide the command if it wasn't.
  16. This is about what personally keeps us from sharing the Gospel. This is for honest discussion on what keeps us and how we can overcome. For me, im afraid. I have alot of anxiety issues. And I'm afraid of rejection. I am thinking that i need to seek out rejection and get used to it. its not that im afraid of it, im just not used to it.
  17. Missions are for everyone. If you have faith, God will prepare a way. As for the Priesthood. Go back and talk with your Bishop.
  18. dont run to the lawyers. they are usually the last steps you want if you want to reconcile. However, you should definitely be talking with your Bishop and your husband. No priesthood holder should be doing such a thing.
  19. Well, I suggest you take some initiative and ask your Bishop what he thinks you should do to prepare for it. You may have specific needs that he can discern. I do recommend reading the D&C. There are a number of sections that deal with the Priesthood. Id probably read section 13, 20, 84 (especially), 107, 110, 121. Id also recommend reading Alma 13. Also, do what you can to magnify your priesthood as priest. Serve in the callings you are given. Share the Gospel with people. Ask if you can serve with the rest of the Aaronic Priesthood in providing sacrament ordinances. When the time is right, the Lord will call you. Don't get too stressed out about worthiness. Remember, none of us is really worthy. We all fall short. It is only through the Grace of the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we can be made worthy. Rely on Him. Learn of Him. and you will be ready.
  20. One of my best friends at Church, and my current home teaching companion, was a former gang member. And I am amazed at how the Gospel of Jesus Christ can change people. People aren't always perfect. The fact is many of the people that are giving you a hard time need the Gospel and Atonement in their lives just as much as you and your family may need it. Don't let them discourage you. Put your faith in Christ and do what you can to serve them. Maybe they just need you to be an example to them.
  21. welcome to the board:) We are happy to have you around.
  22. I dont think you should leave any of your beliefs that are good or true. And The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not ask you to do so. One of the grand fundamental principles of Mormonism is to embrace truth from whatever the source, because the truth can and will lead us closer to God. By understanding and living the truth we can come closer to God. All Churches, religions, and sects embrace some of the truth. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can add to that with additional revelation, the covenants and ordinances needed for salvation and many other teachings. More importantly we can show people how to receive personal revelation for themselves and learn from God. Pray to God for wisdom and revelation. Be humble and sincere and He will not let you stay in confusion. If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given unto him. But ask in faith, nothing waivering. Regardless what happens, believe in God. Believe that He can reveal the truth to you and demonstrate that you are willing to live the principles He reveals to you.
  23. I think that Christ answers that clearly in the Gospel: A house divided cannot stand. the devil cannot encourage people to go closer to Christ, because doing so would undermine everything he stands for. He can however, keep people complacent in their belief in Christ. So much so to delude them into thinking there is nothing they need to do to express their faith. These people will put up stakes and say they will believe or go only so far and no more. But the whole point of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to rip out these barrier we place in our lives that stop us from growing. Its to help us change our human nature.
  24. Definitely don't do it for a girl. But do it for the right reasons. Because its the truth. It's weird saying that to people who have not had the same experiences I've had, but I know beyond all doubt that it is indeed true. You sound like you want to do good in this world. Talk with God. Tell Him what you want. I know when I was seeking to know whether it was all true or not, i told God that I wanted the truth, I wanted to live it and follow Him regardless where He took me. I exercised faith in Him and He revealed the truth to me as I was studying the scriptures one day. The Spirit was incredibly overwhelming. So much so that even now thinking back I can not deny that it was the power and love of God on me. I never understood what the Glory of God meant till that day. I have no doubt your journey will lead you closer to God as well. Feel free to ask all the questions you want. we will answer.
  25. Depends what you mean by having the Holy Spirit. Everyone has the Holy Spirit touch them from time to time. it testifies of truth and then leaves. But only after baptism can someone recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. Without this process the Spirit cannot dwell with us always.
