I sent it to a High Counselor in my stake.  They interact directly with the bishops and I think they would be interested in his ideas, especially for a new bishop or in stake priesthood leadership meetings.

I shared this with a friend in the church, and he wrote me back:

Thank you.  I read the Guidebook and had thoughts about how to address someone in my personal ministry.  It's a matter with which I have struggled.  I'm not sure what precisely in the Guidebook triggered the thoughts, but they came while considering this brother's experiences.   Thank you for following the prompting to share this material with me.

    Let's go over some updates.

--After the attack in Paris, firmly declares to the world that there will beno change in policy -- "ISIS is contained"

--Characterizes the slaughter in Paris as merely a "setback" in his policy

--Imports Syrian immigrants, without informing the Governor or state authorities of their presence.  Bypasses state authorities and goes through non-profit charities.

--Threatens to veto legislation that would require strict vetting of those immigrants for terrorism.

The problem was that Germany in the 1930's was under a mountain of debt.  They were required to pay reparations for WWI.  They had enormous unemployment, the currency was inflated, etc.

The Germans saw Hitler as the saviour of their nation to get out of these problems.  It is frightening that we have a similar situation today, and where that could lead -- to our own saviour leader.

We are witnessing here death of national borders, not only in Europe but also in the United States.

You can defeat a country with superior weapons of war, but this represents a new form of conquest.  You freely allow millions and millions of "refugees" with no attempt at controlling who is entering the country. Many of these refugees come from a culture alien to our cultural values of democracy, tolerance, the rule of law.

The purpose of a border is to protect its citizens.   The This is so important that the country will spend a significant part of its wealth to protect those borders with police and the military.

Why would a leader of a country allow this to happen?  Simple, you provide them almost the same benefits as you give your own citizens.  And then, you find legal loopholes which give them the ability to vote.  This is all done in the name of compassion and charity.  You attack those who oppose these policies as "racist".

AS Savage pointed out, "H" tried to conquer other nations through a superior military.  But today we see a "reverse invasion", where the enemy is invited and welcomed, along with legitimate refugees, to cross our borders at will.  It may be a decade before the damage is fully realized, but the enemy will be within our borders.

This article addresses some of these issues in more detail.

    1. Would a rational person start a world war?  (Of course not)
    2. Savage gives several points where Obama is making war on his own country. Do you agree with him.

I think there is too much hysteria and recriminations on both sides.

As I have seen their concerns, it mostly involves on how the church treats the children of SSM.

    1. The church has decided to use the same policy as polygamous families.

    2. The purpose of the church handbook is to give policy and procedures, NOT doctrinal statements.  It can change as circumstances change.

    3. The "dissenters" complain that the church has gone too far in its treatment of the children of these families.

It is possible, after a period of time, for the church to modify this policy as they consider the issues raised by the dissenters. For example, is it REALLY necessary to deny a child blessing to a child of a SSM couple?  Maybe yes, maybe no.  The main argument is that it creates a formal membership record for that child, but is it POSSIBLE to change that procedure where no formal record is created, for example.

It used to be policy to give the Holy Ghost to new members immediately after baptism, which then created the membership record.  Today it requires the investigator to have this done on the following Sunday, and then the record is created.

Finally, the reasons for apply this policy for children of polygamous families do not necessarily apply for SSM .

The dissenters do have legitimate concerns, but the haters have taken advantage of the hysteria, rather than calling for patience.  And we here bad mouth these poor souls rather than see them as being victims of manipulation.

Of course, but they rejected one heresy by simply adopting another.  The prophet Joseph Smith was able to resolved the issue by accepting the doctrine that Christ taught in John 17:19-23.  We know this as the Plan of Salvation which was beyond the ken of human wisdom.

Again, the historic Christian church replaced the apostles and prophets with theologians and scholars, and thi s is the poster boy of that change.  Without revelation, they were unable to understand the meaning of "one God", and created the "one substance entity" which is fully incompatible with the scriptures.  (e.g. Not my will, but thy will be done; not my doctrine but the doctrine of the one who sent me, etc)

The Emperor Constantine helped craft the Nicene Creed as a political solution to the division among Christians.  He didn't really care what it said as long as they stopped squabbling among themselves.

And those bishops who voted against it, he simply banished them.

cdowis reacted to JojoBag in Scripture Study Help
On Sunday, I learned a new way to help my scripture study in Elder's Quorum. The teacher had a very different grasp on studying the scriptures. He looks up various words online in the Webster's 1828 dictionary and compares the definitions to the present. Because the Book of Mormon was translated just prior to 1830, the words used had somewhat different meanings. They also had a greater significance and impact.

If you begin comparing the definition in 1828 and the current definitions, you will see a rather significant difference. For example:

    Iniquity – 1828
Injustice; unrighteousness; a deviation from rectitude; as the iniquity of war; the iniquity of the slave trade.
Want of rectitude in principle; as a malicious prosecution originating in the iniquity of the author.
A particular deviation from rectitude; a sin of crime; wickedness; any act of injustice
Your iniquities have separated between you and your God. Isaiah 59:2

Original want of holiness or depravity.
I was shapen in iniquity Psalms 51:5

    Iniquity – 2015
    Gross injustice; wickedness
A wicked act or thing; sin

    Rectitude – 1828
In morality, rightness of principle or practice; uprightness of mind; exact conformity to truth, or to the rules prescribed for moral conduct, either by divine or human laws. Rectitude of mind is the disposition to act in conformity to any known standard of right, truth or justice; rectitude of conduct is the actual conformity to such standard. Perfect rectitude belongs only to the Supreme Being. The more nearly the rectitude of men approaches to the standard of the divine law, the more exalted and dignified is their character. Want of rectitude is not only sinful, but debasing.

There is a sublimity in conscious rectitude – in comparison with which the treasures of earth are not worth naming.

    Rectitude – 2015
The quality or state of being straight
    Moral integrity; righteousness
The quality or state of being correct in judgment or procedure

    Abomination – 1828
    Extreme hatred; detestation
The object of detestation, a common signification in scripture
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs 15:8
Hence, defilement, pollution, in a physical sense, or evil doctrines and practices, which are moral defilements, idols and idolatry, are called abominations. The Jews were an abomination to the Egyptians; and the sacred animals of the Egyptians were an abomination to the Jews. The Roman army is called the abomination of desolation. Matthew 24:15. In short, whatever is an object of extreme, is called an abomination.

    Abomination – 2015
    Something abominable
    Extreme disgust and hatred; loathing

Talk about a difference between the time of Joseph Smith and now! I think this is a primary example of how society has minimized sin and evil and relegated the Devil to the status of a myth.

This is true, and to add to your comment, policies are also based on revelation.  As circumstances change, so also those policies could change.  But we are bound by these policies and to support our leaders as prophets, seers and revelators.

Christ gave us the guiding principle
Matt 10 [35] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
[36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
[37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
[38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

    And this IS revelation.

As the Chruch continues to grow and as members also continue to grow - I suspect that revelation in families and head of family to become more apparent and common.  As I understand the primary councle is that of a man and a womam that have been sealed - all other quorums and councles are created to support the primary councle of family.
