  1. Dude's frontal lobe isn't even done developing. Maybe he's being ridiculous, maybe he's not. We don't know enough yet. You people are as brutal and unforgiving as the LGBTQ+ mob attacking the Southern Baptists. In the absence of sufficient information you've decided he's a rabid anti-Semite. In the absence of sufficient information I'm willing to believe maybe he's just a confused kid. Do you people really think that attacking this kid is going to convince him of anything (other than maybe that this is a hateful place)? Do you think he'll give you a chance to reason with him and help him understand that he is indeed doing the ridiculous thing that LDSGator demonstrated? And does all that seem Christlike to you? What if OP really is a rabid anti-Semite? You're certainly not helping him to back off that position. How many scriptures and General Conference talks do I need to quote before you catch on that no matter how awful anti-Semitism is, responding to this kid with unfounded attacks, assuming the worst of him, is not the way to help him or anyone else?
  2. Gecko also said: So, he has questions. He's learned things about the behaviors of specific Jews, and other things from history (at least some of which seem dubious). These questions and the answers he's found (presumably outside the Church) are "ruining" his life. That is not the same as saying, "Jews are ruining my life."
  3. I have no idea how you came to the conclusion, so apparently it's not that obvious. You're reading more than is there. I decline to jump to conclusions when we don't even have a single reply from the OP.
  4. Show me where in this thread you and @Carborendum are bending over backwards to be polite?
  5. What am I missing? Where in the OP does he say he's addicted to porn or confess to other sins related to the law of Chastity? I see nothing there to suggest the OP is struggling with some sin, per se. Rather, I see him struggling with questions. I have no trouble believing that a 20-something in this culture went looking for answers and fell into the rabbit hole of anti-Semitism. You can't walk around in that age group without tripping all over it. Since when do we start accusing people of specific sins without an ounce of evidence?
  6. Let's be fair, Carb. He said the questions are ruining his life. Obviously Presumably, in searching for answers to his questions, he has fallen into the anti-Semitism rabbit hole. Unjust, dude, unjust. Do you like it when someone tells you what you're thinking? Or that you're a liar? We have no just grounds for making such claims against @Gecko45. Give the guy a chance. Yes (or has fallen for other people's cherry picking). You cannot know this. Yes. To all of us. PS: No wonder we have so many one-hit wonders on these forums.
  7. PS: Welcome to ThirdHour, @Gecko45! Please stick around. Here you will find a small group of faithful Latter-day Saints who will happily include you as a friend and help you to keep your covenants and to overcome negative influences.
  8. I see nothing to indicate they must convert to the Church. It would appear that they will rebuild the old, Jewish temple: http://ldslastdays.com/jerusalem-temple-rebuilt/ Read the scriptures linked from the topical guide entry for Jew, Jewish. While yes, scattering and scourging are prophesied (e.g. 2 Nephi 25), it is equally clear that the Lord does not approve of such behavior. Indeed, remember that a big part of the Second Coming is when the Lord defends the Jews and destroys their enemies - so get your hatred of them out of your heart! You are allowing yourself to be exposed to propaganda. Even statements that might be somewhat true are presented in ways to deceive, and to evoke hate or disgust in you. What you think you "know/see" is not the truth presented objectively and in context. You need to get out of whatever environments are feeding you these things and get into the word of Christ. If you continue to expose yourself to hate, it will destroy you. Seriously, you need to evacuate as if the fire is already scorching the seat of your pants. Every time you feel like getting online and "researching" something about Jews, get into the Book of Mormon instead. Spend more time in the temple. In every single prayer, ask God to take these feelings from you. Continue praying for years, decades even, until God has healed your heart and mind. As for all the accusations: those who love wickedness can be found everywhere and among every people (even within the membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). Quit worrying about that and keep your covenants. Final statement: If you can believe Douglas Murray (who's more educated than I am, for whatever that's worth), widespread anti-semitism is the canary in the coalmine, and has historically marked the impending collapse of every civilization that espoused it. Don't join up with those hastening the collapse of western civilization.
  9. 'Twas a cucumber (I suspect zucchini would work as well, perhaps even a long pickle). A lot of videos like that on YT. Experts seem to think that the shape and position are sufficient that the cat initially thinks it's a snake. Once you understand the cat's terror, it's definitely not funny. (And if you believe Jordan Peterson, apparently all mammals have fear of snakes genetically encoded - no prior experience needed - fear response will be triggered before recognition happens.) I'm sure I found similar things humorous in my youth (like putting tape on the cat's paws and watching it try to shake the tape off). It was probably only about 10 years ago that I gave up all forms of comedy that relied on mocking someone / making a fool of them. This meant giving up Dilbert cartoons and pretty much all TV sitcoms (not that I was a big fan of those anyway). We are made in the image of God. We have no business mocking each other. I cannot tolerate it at all anymore. Yes, this! We should deprive it of nutrients and feed a better part.
  10. Like Sanderson, they want to change it from within. ETA: Woke figured out a long time ago that it's easier to indoctrinate children than to pass laws or change the views of adults.
  11. Exactly. See my conspiracy theory answer to Gator. I have no idea, nor do I have any idea why the person making the claim was making the claim. I'm just helping the interwebs to get its daily dose of unfounded nonsense.
  12. That was not my suggestion. My suggestion was that maybe they won't be able to find another job. Their problem and no one else's as far as I'm concerned.
  13. Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Is it a case of "secret woke" hiring more "secret woke" regardless of credentials, or is it just someone making up insults to explain away how these folks came to be at BYU. I don't know.
  14. Some folks are claiming, "not really." In other words, they're saying that some of these folks are at BYU, riding on their Church membership, because other universities wouldn't hire them (their credentials are not impressive enough on their own to land a university position).
  15. Given the size of houses and their rooms back then, do you really think she was that far away?
  16. Do you have a source for this account?
  17. Fixed it for meself.
  18. It's always midnight (the midnight hour) somewhere on Earth.
  19. Now I'm wondering what company you found to arrange this. The only two with which I have experience don't seem to offer these sorts of things - or if they do, they hide it very well - which is my whole complaint against the insurance industries across the board - they rely on fear and confusion. I'm seriously considering doing what @Carborendum proposes as I doubt I will ever need my homeowner's insurance - pretty sure the world will end before I do.
  20. These are the ones you avoid in real life - whatever else is true, they won't make good friends - or, if they're young enough, they need to spend more time with a crab attached to their face so they learn empathy. (If they don't quickly learn empathy, leave them behind.)
  21. Not, not the only person. Lilochipie is funny (and funnier still, IMO, with all the "excuse me sir" stuff overlaid):
  22. Check out how much it will cost you, @Traveler (or any Utahn), to add earthquake coverage to your homeowner's insurance, versus, say, tornado coverage. The insurance companies know the risks for a given area and will include the low-risk items, but they'll charge you a pretty (gazillion) penny(ies) to cover things that are probable in your area.
  23. Wow, the French get 6 extra chapters of Enos!? Guess I need to learn French...
  24. IMO, there's a difference here: Sanderson is not just including LGBTQ+ characters (and their words and actions) in ways that reflect the world around him. He is also, in the real world, promoting things that are contrary to what the Church teaches. (This is the greater concern than what's in his stories.) Creating the thing from your imagination is very different from swiping someone's credit card, or setting someone's alcoholic drink on the table. It may be that one has to experience the creation of characters and stories to understand this, but trust me, the difference huge. His characters and their actions are alive inside his head. They are infinitely more real than the person on the other side of the counter or seated at the table (because he knows the characters, whereas the cashier and the waiter(ess) don't know the customer). And he experiences far more of their thoughts, feelings, words, and actions than the reader ever sees on the page.
