I think that investor confidence has been shaken by all of the stories in recent months detailing the level of incompetence and selfishness at the corporate level. Obama is like a tree falling in the forest. He can make anouncments and purchase stock in failing companies all day, but no one will take notice because they are all so mesmorized and awe-struck by the fact that the upper echelons of some of our most prestigious companies are totally bereft of talented executives. I also believe that bailing out a company has an overall negative effect on investor confidence. If I see the government purchasing 25% of a company, that signals to me that it is poorly run, dying, or both, and I would avoid purchasing that stock like the plague.

Does anyone else think this is unacceptable?
aranyborju replied to WillowTheWhisp's topic in General Discussion
No, not unreasonable. I don't think that it is wrong to have a day for more "comfortable" attire, but there should still be standards. You are absolutely correct. When I was in Intermediate school the band had a sleep-over at the school, and we were encouraged to wear PJs and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, but our jammies still had to meet the standard dress code set up by our school (no lingerie, boxer shorts, etc.). Also, not to make light of your situation, but hopefully none of the students showed up to World Book Day J-Bird style, as some people are known to sleep in the buff. -
A question for both sides of the political spectrum:
aranyborju replied to FunkyTown's topic in Current Events
1)Well, the problem is that if he brings his message down a notch, he will still be ridiculed. I remember Ross Perot bringing out charts and graphs to explain his economic plan in a way that people without post-secondary education could understand, and he was the butt of jokes for years to come. 2) We won't until ratings are affected, which will never happen. I think that people tend to forget that cable news is an entertainment business, not a public service. The two most balanced news sources on television, PBS, and C-SPAN are virtually unwatched and would not be able to stay afloat without public donations, because they present the news with minimal commentary. People don't like to think about the issues long enough to form their own opinions, so they find a network that they are comfortable with/entertained by, and allow the network to make up their minds for them. -

Thank you bodhigrilsmiles, this was especially helpful.

Hi Krishna. Welcome to the site. I have had the good fortune of meeting many Krishna conscious people in my travels, and have always found them to be very respectful and lovely people. I hope that you have the same experience here as you mingle with people of my faith.

Thanks Traveler, I have often thought that the Temple would be the best place for such activity. I started looking into meditation because I enjoy the spirit and relaxation that I find in the Temple, and want to envoke something similar at work/home, since I don't live close enough to a Temple to go as often as I would like. I will try to pay attention to what you are talking about the next time I am there.

I totally understand. I have three little ones at home myself. Just looking for some serenity. Thanks again.

I have also thought about this a lot. It seems like the Partys are generally identified by their fringe groups, making it difficult to identify with one or the other. For example, I have been politically left of center for most of my adult life, and yet there are huge parts of the "Democratic" platform that I reject. I wish that we could mix and match more. I wouldn't mind a party that understands the need for compassionate welfare (like the church does), and respects nature, without feeling the need to reject "conservative" moral principles.

Thanks for you insight Elgama. So about how long does it take for you to feel that you have accomplished something? 10 minutes, or more like an hour?

Does anyone here meditate? And if so how?

Also "A Key to the Science of Theology" by Parley P. Pratt. That one is good too.

"Rational Theology" by John A. Widtsoe is a good read. He was a general authority and wrote the book as a study guide for elders. It hasn't been in use for a long time, but brings up a lot of really interesting points about our relationship with God, Satan, and eachother.

I don't really know what to expect because it will be the first time that we will really see eachother as we truly are, and with the veil lifted. I think that a lot of our past baggage and unresolved issues will become instantaneously irrelevant. Just an aside. I like how everyone wants to meet former prophets, presidents, etc. Will it be like a book signing where we can all go up to the table and have 5 seconds to chat it up with John Adams?

I disagree with your last statement a-train. I don't think that we as a collective society will ever figure this out...although I applaud your optimism.

I have a question about fasting. I know that if a person is really struggling with something fasting and prayer can help. I am having some trouble right now, and I have turned to prayer and fasting for help. For the past few days I have been eating dinner every night, but then fasting through breakfast and lunch, just like I would on fast sunday, only I am doing it every day. Is that okay? The scriptures describe people who go through spells of "much fasting and prayer," in order to receive answers/blessings, but they don't seem to give and explanation as to what constitutes "much." Am I being overzeallous?

I don't see why this has to be an issue. Why can't schools just teach math science etc. Isn't that what they are for?

My friend was married as a single mom 3 different times! You probably aren't looking for 4 divorces, but I think that it at least shows that it can be done. -
Growing...we just had like 4 young families move in, and they are even thinking about splitting the nursury. Never thought I would see the day.

Modes of Prayer
aranyborju replied to Listener's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
"why on earth would I wish to offend someone over such a small thing. I am perfectly capable of adjusting my prayer language to suit the LDS practices, in order to not offend." That is such a good attitude. I wish that I was that mature. -
Good question. I also wonder if digression is possible.

No one is perfect, and that includes Patriarchs. Maybe he just isn't magnifying his calling. HA. I don't even know the guy! -

Holly, I know that a decision as big as this doesn't come without a lot of inner turmoil. I hope that you are fully at peace with your decision, and that you continue to have peace in the future. God bless.
