Ok, i've just completed my first time fasting. I've decided to donate the money I would have spent on meals to a local charity that provides food for the needy (the reason being is that i'm not a member of the church yet so I haven't got a community to donate too!).

However, just wondering about how much people usually give? Lunch in my work costs 5,50 (which includes the meal, bread, salad and desert) but I usually take my own and I rekon I make it for around 2,50. Therefore is 5,00 enough? I didn't have breakfast either yesterday, so maybe 7,50? What's the going rate?

We are encouraged to be generous in our fast offerings. There is no set amount. The idea is to make it hurt a little bit. It's not sacrifice if you don't feel the effects of it.

If I'm going to do a two meal fast, $5 covers the cost of the food. Today at church though we were presented with the idea of doubling our fast contribution as a way to truly help the poor and needy in our communities.

I remember a talk given once on fast offerings and it was said that it appears that a good majority of the church must live off of a little rice and a little beans.

Be generous with your fast offering.

I don't normally eat breakfast, $5 Subway sandwich for lunch and light dinner. I would not feel right giving only 7 or 10 dollars for a fast offering. Of course I am much older now and so can and do give more generously.

As a suggestion to a non member I would not avoid making a fast offering donation to the LDS church if you wish. They have an excellent administration of the funds given with most of it handled by volunteers. More money goes to work and not administration.

I pay my fast offering once a month. After I figure out my tithing, I take that number and times it by .1. So I give 10% of my 10% in Fast Offerings. Last month we paid $400 in Fast offerings. We've been doing this since we got married and the Lord has blessed us immeasurably.

If two of your meals cost around 5.00 dollars, I would suggest in giving 10.00 dollars since all fast money are used to feed the poor and take care of the needy.

Wow what kind of work do you do. So that would mean you paid $4,000 in tithing last month and made $40,000 during the month. All in a month? That's amazing.

You mean to tell us that when making $480,000 a year, you can only bring yourself to donate $4,800 to Fast Offering? Cheapskate! :D

Seriously,

I believe only you know the budget of your family. All that is asked tech. from the first presidency is what you would spend on food for two meals. However, the more generous you are with your fast offering and tithing offering, the more blessings you will receive.
