I was so happy to see Pres Obama changing his mind on this too.

And I think I need to see my bishop. If bytor is agreeing with Obama, I should make sure I'm good....

The only way I'd support releasing the photos is if Obama were going to make sure heads would (almost literally) roll over this fiasco, and in a very public way.

Since he's not willing to do that, suppressing the photos is the next-best option.

These are old photos anyhow. The investigation already took place and the culprits punished. he pics will not add anything new and they serve no purpose other than inflaming anti-American sentiment. It is a fair call.

Like myself, I think Bytor is neither Republican nor Democrat, but is an independent conservative/libertarian.

To publish those photos would not have helped anyone, except our enemies. I think Pres Obama acted pragmatically on this one, as I hope he will on all things. Even Democrats can occasionally be pragmatic (with the exception of Nancy Pelosi, perhaps. But then I don't consider her a Democrat, but a Jacobin).

I understand President Obama's thinking that these pictures would further inflame anti-American sentiment. However, I also recall the pictures of Auschwitz and how history benefited from their release when people of principal stood up and said, "No more!".

We missed out on explicit photos of the Central American death squads or the Pol Pot killing fields of Cambodia in action, but their after the fact recreations still had some impact on what we should avoid in shaping our collective destinies.
