I guess it is the only natural end. When a government legalizes abortion, it opens up the door to social eugenics.

Swedish health authorities have ruled that gender-based abortion is not illegal according to current law and can not therefore be stopped, according to a report by Sveriges Television.

The Local reported in February that a woman from Eskilstuna in southern Sweden had twice had abortions after finding out the gender of the child.

The woman, who already had two daughters, requested an amniocentesis in order to allay concerns about possible chromosome abnormalities. At the same time, she also asked to know the foetus's gender.

Doctors at Mälaren Hospital expressed concern and asked Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) to draw up guidelines on how to handle requests in the future in which they "feel pressured to examine the foetus’s gender" without having a medically compelling reason to do so.

The board has now responded that such requests and thus abortions can not be refused and that it is not possible to deny a woman an abortion up to the 18th week of pregnancy, even if the foetus's gender is the basis for the request.

This is so sad. I just don't get why you'd want to abort your baby just because of it's gender. If I'm someday blessed enough to have children I'd love any child I had regardless of it's gender. I just really wonder what is going through people's heads when they make these decisions.

If one rules that it is a collection of tissues can be terminated at the mother's discretion even if it could form to be a human child why would it matter if that collection of tissues could form to be a female or a male human child? So legally it makes sense.

The premise I have objection to, but if you accept the premise it seems to make sense with a cursory think through.

Exactly. That's the point- the things which we in America are fighting the 'culture wars' over (abortion, ssm, pornography, etc.) all lead down slippery slopes that the rest of the world has already tread. I wish the advocates for these things would at least admit that.

This has been the practice in China for years, because of the cultural preference for males. There's a growing gender-gap there, and sociologists have more or less confirmed what Heber Kimball (not Brigham Young) said long ago: a large population of single men over a certain age does indeed become a social menace. The result is a lot of sexually frustrated males who are prone to violence, and all a government can really do about it is either keep them in jail or send them off to war someplace.
