Greetings Dominic,

What kind of details or information about early american inhabitants are you looking for?

Well, I don't know much about it. I'll tell you what I can recall.

When I asked an LDS missionary online what the message of the BOM was she simply said it was something to do with ancient Americans writing something down at about 400BC, and Joseph Smith interpritated it and wrote it down for the people of his time and for the restored Church? I may have got that wrong, but I can't really remember it all that well. Could you tell me more about it?

Dear Dominic,

For starters we should understand that the Book of Mormon is a very brief abridgment which may contain less than 1/100th of the original records.

It,s primary content is not dealing with the historical, social or societies of those people(s), but rather a few details of God's dealings with them. This includes the wondrous account of Christ's visit to the American continent after His resurrection. This visit by the way is a partial fulfillment of a New Testament prophecy given by Christ himself that other sheep He had which were not of this fold (the tribe of Judah) and it was He who declared that He would also visit them and that they would hear His voice. Christ also gave clear indication that He was sent only to the lost sheep of the "house of Irael".

The primary focus is covering Lehi and those that followed him from Jerusalem approximately 600 BC to about 421 AD, the Mulekites, and the earliest records deal with the Jaredite civilization which traveled to the American continent approx. 1600 BC as I recall.

Many critics of the church have mistakingly or falsely referred to these various civilizations as being of Jewish descent. The record, however, is very clear that Lehi's group while having migrated from Jerusalem were definitely not of the tribe of Judah. They were clearly descendants of the tribe of Joseph.

Thus the Book of Mormon is identified as the stick of Joseph and the Bible is referred to as the stick of Judah. These terms originate from prophesies given by Old Testament prophets.

Hope this little overview is of some help.

Little? That is not a little overview, at least not for me! :D That was too much. There is still so much that I do not know. But that is why I came here.

Thank you Revelationstoo, you have been a great help.

Here's a question, even though I'm LDS myself. How come I'm seeing other LDS partially censor the word God, even though the context is around respectful, religiously oriented discussion of Him? Is it due to a fear of taking His name in vain? I just find it a little odd that the General Authorities don't even feel obligated to do that when they discuss matters pertaining to Him in writing, yet some feel the need to do so anyway.

I have a question. I have asked missionaries and orther Mormons and have yet to understand. Can someone explain what the LDS church believes about the end of time and the Second Coming? I am not LDS. Thank you for your answer.

I believe everyone is saved through the grace of Jesus. What do you mean that you work towards exaltation? You can't work your way into heaven.

Through the atonement of Christ we are saved from spiritual death. We will be judged by our works, they determine which heavenly kingdom we will be sent to after judgment. Exaltation means that we are working towards being in the highest kingdom, the celestial kingdom. It is described in the Bible as being the kingdom like the sun.
