Hey! I had a McDonalds the other day. You have made me feel guilty now ;)

I've said this before, but on a different forum. When I went to America, I was really shocked at the difference in McDonalds portion sizes. The reason I like McDonalds is for their strawberry milkshake, to date I've not come across anything that beats it. So when we tried McDonalds at America, both myself and my sister ordered large strawberry milkshakes. When they arrived, my jaw just dropped. I'd ordered a large milkshake, but not a bucket full of milkshake. I managed to get mine down, and was almost sick afterwards, my sister didn't even try, she just gave it back and ordered the smallest one they had which was about the equivalent of the largest one they do in the UK.

Other than that, I was disappointed at how different the general menu was in America - I'm not sure why it has to be so different, local copyright issues maybe?

They're selling a 1/3lb (~150 g) burger these days. I can remember when working at Subway some Brit came in and ordered a large soda, when I pointed him to the actual large soda he kinda did a double take (the cups were in dispensers just in front of the register), he ended up selecting the small (21 oz aka 621 ml). Quite frankly I can drink a mind boggling amount of soda (or water), my vice recently has been 52 oz (though the ice displaces a decent amount) of Diet Dr. Pepper. In case you are curious, yes I can (and have) downed the same cups refilled with water back at home, or when eating out at a sit down restaurant I generally get the waiter tired of refilling my glass with water and just leaving a pitcher on the table (which I usually empty all but single handedly)

Probably taste differences, Hawaii has some 'local' items on the menu that you don't have on the mainland and and that's in the same country, I could see more of a difference between countries. Though poking around on their UK site I'm not seeing too much of a difference, the core seems to be the same, though you do have some stuff that looks interesting.

Or are you not talking about food items but the actual layout and appearance of the menu?

When I lived in Hawaii and also when I went to Hong Kong, the McDonalds in both places had a noodle dish on the menu as well. I think they try and cater to the local population as well.

No, I was referring to the food items. It looked very different when I visited one of the restaurants in New York - I managed to confuse the poor girl on the till by asking for things which I assumed they had, but didn't.

It's because they use the metric system in Europe. They don't know what a quarter-pounder is.

I went to a McDonald's in Egypt once, and I remember being amused/disturbed by the fact that I saw no livestock the whole time I was there. Just a lot of stray/feral dogs. "Yeah, I'll have the terrier burger with a side of fries".

Treachery! Blasphemous! Treason!

*rubs eyes*

Am I seeing this correctly? A non-American is defending a 'cultural' export of the US from an American?

Hahahaha.

I'm not really that much of a fan of McDonalds myself TBH. I love the strawberry milkshake, that's it - there isn't really much to the rest, I'd prefer to stick to good ol' British fish and chips (considerably cheaper for a much more satisfying meal ;) )

hahaha !! I love the McDonald's in Hong Kong !!

Last time I went there, they had :

_coke + ice cream

_noodles

_rice + chicken

_delicious deserts

_ 60 McDonald's in HK are open 24/7

_ among other things !

McDonald's in France on the other hand is soooo EXPENSIVE though !!

You americans don't know how lucky you are . . . LOL^_^

I don't eat there if I have a choice. I can eat the fries (for the most part) but no bugers.

I don't eat "bugers" either.

Okay, a man walks into McDonalds, places his order and then says, "Super size me".

The order taker then replied, "............................................................." *

* Please help me think of the things the order taker may have said.

If you come back around closing I can get you a barrel of used fry oil?

That's gonna take more than 49 cents.

Are you sure you want to downsize?

Américain sale!, Schmutziger Amerikaner! or Norteamericano Sucio!
