Superbaldguy Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I have made it a goal to attempt to have the Spirit with me at all times, as I have felt its great influence of being able to make day-to-day decisions that allow me to more fully function in this often-difficult mortal sojourn. Like everyone, however, I have the tendency to lose that companionship from time to time, due to my own slothfulness and weakness. What is the fastest way to recover and re-establish that liaison wit the Holy Ghost? Quote
Danite Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Wow That's a tough question to answer. I don't know if it a all or nothing type of thing, because none of are living all the commandments, then of us could have the spirt. In the D&C section 45 (I think) it talks about the gifts of spirt. "The gifts of the spirt are giving to those who love me and keep all my commandments and those who seaketh so to do" (paraphased). Notwithstanding some major sin or knowingly breaking the commandments and refusing to to repent. We may have the spirt by degress depending on our willingness to believe and obey.I think we have the spirt alot more then we think, we just don't always understand that we have it, or in other words we have the spirt, except when we don't. Fast and pray with humility before the Godhead and ask with hope and faith. Quote
Justice Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Yes, Hemi. Moroni 7 tells us that anything that teaches about Christ or persuades us to believe in Christ is good. If it does not persuade us to believe in Christ it is not good. Read Moroni 7. Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 i will add this....do the opposite of whatever you are doing to lose the Spirit. Quote
bytebear Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Sing a hymn. That will bring the spirit in every time. Quote
lilered Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I didn't know he escaped! Oh wait a minute, I misread the question? “Pray always, and I will pour out my Spirit upon you,There are two great keys to inviting the Spirit to guide what words we speak as we feed others. They are the daily study of the scriptures and the prayer of faith. The Holy Ghost will guide what we say if we study and ponder the scriptures every day. The words of the scriptures invite the Holy Spirit. The Lord said it this way: “Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men” (D&C 11:21). With daily study of the scriptures, we can count on this blessing even in casual conversations or in a class when we may be asked by a teacher to respond to a question. We will experience the power the Lord promised: “Neither take ye thought beforehand what ye shall say; but treasure up in your minds continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion that shall be meted unto every man” (D&C 84:85). Superbaldguy Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 All interesting answers, I have always found fasting and prayer can be of great benefit. One thing I often mention in my many sacrament talks (I am on the High Council), if we lived like missionaires, we would have the Spririt 24/7; of course, in the "real" world, it's not really possible to live that way but we can certiainly pattern much of what we should be doing after their lifetsyles. Hemidakota Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Here is one and you may know it, "..if I don't feel the Spirit in a single day, I am not doing what is require of me." Even this morning, allowing a "minion" driver to change my Spirit from a charitable person to one of hostility, I had to stop for moment and not only ask forgiveness for myself but also for the driver. :)Yes! You can live that way if you control every second of your life... Quote

Guest dec2057 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 I love to get a cheap copy of the Book of Mormon and read it first thing every morning and last thing at night. I have a pen and a highlighter and as I read, the Holy Ghost helps me to understand what I am reading. As some of the verses jump out at me and their meaning becomes even clearer I highlight them and ponder how I can apply them to my life to be a better person. I have gone through a number of Book of Mormons doing that and it's awesome to see that each time I do, different verses and comments are in the book as God answers my prayers and questions depending on what trial or challenge I am experiencing. The more I read the Book of Mormon and try to apply it's teachings in my life, the stronger and closer I feel the Spirit as a constant companion. Quote
